@@To8iRama china has a seperate government monitored internet, thats very seperated from the internet we are framiliar with. Besides the server distance and ping issues associated with long distance play (assuming youre in NA or part of europe) that could be why you dont see any chinese players.

@@To8iRama This was a very popular game back then and lot of ppl working on extension mods for it. The "ban" in China means you cannot sell it for profit, which disabled all global internet vs. mode. Inside China, ppl still can play it and enjoy the online mode nationalwide with a 3rd party plugin. The great internet wall in China, is the very first digital national boundary concept. No matter ppl like it or hate it, it works as intended.

C&C Generals Wholesome Hour
My friend would always chose GLA because they didn't need power and because he likes their units. Me on the other hand would always choose USA Superweapon because I like the EMP Patriot missiles and the Aurora bomber. I am defend more than I attack. My base would literally be surrounded by walls of EMP patriot missiles. My friend on the other hand loves to attack. He would amass these huge armies of units that would sometimes lag the game when he moves them. We always agree to never make superweapons so that we only fight with units and such. Because of this, it would literally takes us hours to finish one round because I was a heavy defender and he was a heavy attacker. It was like an unstoppable force meeting and immovable object. Great times. Very great times.

Pfft.. I did played with GLA cause you DONT need power, you can make anti rush tactics, can spam builder units fast, at later stages you can launch sneak attacks and spam bunch of units from unguarded parts of map. I guess?

People General is good and USA Air General is also good..... It's Raptors basically cost as much as a tank....great value for the money.
i play with the russian faction to deal with the USA i always make the S400 and throw it at the end of may base and then a few tunguskas at the start of my base ,the tunguskas spot the incoming planes and the S400 sends its missiles as it had a long range , and suddenly the USA cant play any planes
This game was my first RTS. The wave of nostalgia I had watching this is huge. The voice lines of the units and the generals are still as awesome as ever

I remember when playing as GLA I used the ambush ability on a half destroyed chinese base to finish it off. After that I ordered them to regroup with my other units, then some GLA soldier said "Our way is true" right before they got blown up by mines. Probably the hardest I laughed at someone getting blown up by mines.

This line is golden, one thing I found out about generals is how well it depicted every unit and every weapon especially the futuristic elements, ofcourse there are legitimate arguments to be made on how shallow and broad it got them, but the gist is absolutely there

Yes, 2 for the first time you installed it, 2 more for when those stopped working... Repeat. I ended up with 4 copies of the game on disk. None of them will install it anymore. I genuinely enjoy Origin as a store because I got kinda sick of mounting virtual disks on virtual readers. Although, I am probably going to go back to doing that to replay the Starship Troopers FPS with the new RTS coming out this year.

The graphics may not look perfect, but for me is one of the best rts ive played alongside with age of empires 2. I hate the new rts games where units come in squads instead of a single unit.
Yeah tho but have you played rise of nations, some of the units come with groups or just solo unit
Only game that has the squad mechanic that I like is Dawn of War.
More recent RTS games have many problems, but squads are not the main offence. Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars is quite good despite squads.
@@lars9925 Tib wars was kinda OK for the most part but good lord does the flaws infuriate me, campaign gameplay is horrendous specially with AI being a cheating bastard, defensive structures are utterly trash for early game rush where rocket mooks outrange the supposed anti-Infantry defense, Squad Infantry AI spread themselves thin when defending or attacking around structures, the construction system which combines the best things about dozers and the crippling limitations of the MCV (IK cranes and outposts exists but building them is a big waste of resources) , and finally the only thing that keeps infantry being utterly useless is if you're playing Scrin, or you have built your super vehicle.

"Generals" is my childhood, I spent so much time playing it, the campaign was so amazing for me, and those skirmishes. The most amazing voice lines, just, something I needed!

i highly recommend you download a mod named Rise To Power. most underrated mod there is. only issue is that AI cannot play as the modded armies, though you can still play it online with friends and it makes playing with large numbers of people wayy more fun since it adds 9 new generals to choose from.
Steam is better than origin. Just a shame EA owns the franchise.

I have been playing the German version since it came out, and was wondering what mod the suicide bombers were from... until you explained that the German version is fucked. Also the cyborg generals look terrible

There have been decensor patches for the German version since 2005, but I really recommend just getting The First Decade in English with the 1.03 No-CD patch. Believe me, it's a million times better than anything else.

Jan, 22, 2023 you are still able to find online games using Game Ranger or CnC Online. I recently had a pretty awesome match; 3v3, all random armies, pro tip don't rush a 83W - 3L 3rd account vet who hasn't played it 15 years. The skill cap is not high though, that pro only game was a rare find, I tended to find more chill games and had no troubles finding games for the 20 hours I played non stop. Only issues was some toxic players, disconnect issues (for others not me) and the fact you need to buy Zero Hour using the EA launcher.

Havent stopped playing it since i got it when i was like 10
every month or so ill boot it up and go through one of the campaigns and some brutal bots on shockwave or rotr, it has such a crazy amount of replay value, especially for a 16 year old game.
I actually still play this game and I cast live games/replays, record myself playing and tips and so on. I think it's still the best RTS out there.
Agreed. Zero Hour is still the best RTS in my opinion! Starcraft is also great but too micro intensive for my taste. Zero Hour is kept simple and thats what I love so much about the game

@@skya6863 oh yea, age of misthology was a nice game, I haven't played it for a long time now. I would recommend you to try Zero Hour out, still has an online community and also a mod community.
Might take a bit of time to get used to the difference between AOM and ZH but you can try.
@@Jundiyy Honestly, I enjoy starcraft more. I feel like it was actually more of a challenge than ZH, but ZH was definitely enjoyable too. Both of these games were a part of my childhood, and I'll never forget them for the memories and scolding they gave me.

I had literary thousands of hours on this game just playing LAN with my friends.. it was the most awesome RTS game that I have ever played we literary played everyday after school for 5 hours strait everyday just Generals it was too much fun we had really fun with it.
Generals is still the best C&C ever but C&C 3 kane's wrath is also fun sometimes. Its good to see som people still appreciate Command and conquer, its unfortunate EA closed the studio working on it. Don't even know if you make more vids on rts but i subbed anyways :D.

They treated Kirkov (author of the Rise of the Reds Campaign) like crap, kicked him out of the team because he didn't want to Red Dawn II it (change the villains to avoid offending one of the devs), haven't played it in a while, is he still credited?
Anyways, loved the game, grew up on RA-1 and C&C, I love most of the series.

@@spikem5950 Yeah because they couldnt find a writer after he was forced out; he was really well liked kinda killed the community/forums. He was credited in the open "Beta"

@@spikem5950 At the time Kirkov (a pseudonym he was Canadian I think) wrote a popular military fiction series on the forum (MOF). A chapter was 'published' twice monthly.
He was asked to write the story and 4 campaigns (1 per faction; China, US, EU, USSR/Reds) of 12 missions each; the Reds had 5 in the US, 5 in Europe and two in China, the US had six in the US and six in Europe, the rest were localized. The problem was the US portion of the Reds/USSR faction which entailed an invasion via Latin America which went Red/was occupied and didn't resist kind of like the first Red Dawn. One of the Devs was Argentinian (I believe, we are going back a decade or so) and asked him to change it to avoid offending his sensibilities. He said it made literally no sense to do it otherwise; i.e. it wouldn't be terribly realistic and the team would get called out on it; you can't land a massive invasion force out of nowhere.
He got sacked/locked out of the dev forum but never really commented on it publicly, mostly kept it certain members on the forum who knew what was going on anyways. So he pretty much quit the forums, writing sporadically until the last of his short stories was published and did other things.
And thus the mod was Skirmish mode only instead of a more or less fleshed out campaign.

Amazing game. I downloaded this in my dad's office and everyone played it on lan. Though that was 12 years ago. freak it's still relevant i see.
This is by far the greatest rts game ever
For there are three factors that makes it that way
Economy , Military, building construction
Economy
- command and conquer generals allows you to expand your economy by different strategies from faction. China have hackers, USA have supply drops, GLA have black markets. You can leave your PC for hours in a game, and you'll end up having more money than you can imagine possible in a game.
Military
-C&C generals and zero hour does not have population limit, wherein modern rts games limits how many units you can train/build/make, in generals you can make how many you like. The only limitation is your PC/unit.
You want 1900 tanks? Sure! You want 1999 infantries? Sure! You want 1999 tanks + 567 tanks + 687 attack aircrafts? Why not.
Building construction
- modern rts games wants you to play aND build symmetric. If a building is slanted 90 degrees all building should be, you cannot build buildings away from your command center or a wall.
In generals you can build a barracks or aNY other far away from your command center, you can build them where you want, symmetrical or not, close or not. It's your choice, your game
