Heat signature actually is based on light, but in infrared spectra, e.g. light of longer wavelength which cannot be seen, that is what makes it interesting. Thermal information about object originates not from convection of heat through air but on direct detection of infrared light and transforming that information to visible data. Radiation of much shorter wavelength like X-ray is also light. I was visiting researcher on some synchrotron radiation facilities and X-ray sources are classified as light sources, although not directly visible it is still light.
This is very interesting.Being a long time investigator, I have been befuddled at the fact that so many (if not, than I would say 97.9%) of the thermal imagers out there do NOT support a video output. The only one being the FLIR B2 and the phone/tablet devices. I have spent such a long time looking for another camera with more along the lines of internal storage capabilities via sd cards but I am surprised how these companies just have not done that. Which brings me to comment on your video...I never thought of actually hooking up a go pro via a mount to a thermal imager. That's ingenious! The only problem is that it isn't sadly a direct video feed recording, but given the technological limitations of those imagers, a gopro mount is HIGHLY justifiable. That being said, I have been looking for that particular mount you guys use at the 3:21 mark of this video. Would you be able to provide a link perhaps? Would be most appreciative!
Nice to hear from you Graveyard Grog. Yeah, the gopro setup was a bit funny look'n but it got the job done! That mount was a bike handlebar mount link here (www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1061449-REG/revo_ac_hbm_handlebar_mount.html). It dosn't truly "fit" the FLIR handle, but you can make it pretty snug. If you are looking for a thermal camera with video out or internal memory, the FLIR Exx-Series has internal recording to micro SD.
Unfortunately cameras are not always capable of seeing ghosts, if they exist at all and there is no one particular model that is best. We like high resolution traditional video cameras as are our go to for trying to document paranormal activity.
