    What is not mentioned at all is that while the FLIR can focus under about 12 inches, the SEEK is 1 meter minimum so if you need the device to look at close up objects like electronics troubleshooting FLIR is the only choice. FLIR can also be powered and used at the same time so if you carry a backup battery it can work for both your phone or the FLIR camera, which can use the aux battery with a cable .

      Seek should make a graphic interface so you could adjust the overlay on your phone either by moving one picture to fit with the other using the touchscreen or by letting you input a numerical value on how much one picture needs to be moved to fit with the other.

    I purchased the seek compact pro over the flir one for one specific reason: no battery. I only use the tool probably once every couple of months and I never know when I'll need it. The problem with the flir one is that unless you always keep it charged, it'll never be ready to use when you need to use it.

  • @jdrissel
    @jdrissel 5 лет назад +5

    My Flir One Pro will charge and work as a camera at the same time. I used the cable and wallwart from my Note 8 to charge the Flir One. This did not pass a charge through to the Note 8 though. Then I stuck a wireless charger to the Note 8 and now it is possible to record indefinitely. You will probably still need some programming and some way to move the content off the phone.

    AWFUL FLIR experience: I had the FLIR one and the refresh rate was so painfully slow (always freezes, really annoying) and the battery dramas (it always run out of battery for no reason), the overlay doesn’t really align properly and doesn’t work in darker environment. I normally don’t criticise anything but this was a VERY FRUSTRATING I was very unhappy with my FLIR One, sold it cheap and I may go Seek PRO next. I am happier having nothing at the moment than having something so frustrating that makes me angry every time I turn on and TRY to use.

    • @movax20h
      @movax20h 5 лет назад +8

      The short freezing every few seconds is normal. It is for calibration, there is a black calibration shutter than covers the sensors and calibrates it to known temperature and flat field. Then it restarts and continues. Even on high end hand held devices costing 10000$ it does that.
      But I do agree the frame rate looks a bit low. It is not a problem in most of applications, especially if you it has high resolution. But it is a bit annoying. I recommend having small tripod and bracket for holding a phone. Then all the movements are gone, and it makes it a bit nicer expirience, even with low framerate. Plus high resolution and high frame rate devices are export controlled (dual use as they could be used in military stuff like self guided rockets etc).

      The refresh rate difference can make a quality difference for that. The image quality and definition on the seek looks better. We just want to see accurate images with temp differences when we investigate.

      The Seek Compact Pro is probably a good choice for you since it has higher IR resolution and you don't need the extra FLIR features like reporting in FLIR Tools. For using it at home, you might be alright with the base Seek Compact - this camera has 206x156 IR resolution compared to 320x240 on the Compact Pro. That said, we do recommend going with higher resolution if you can afford it since this will give you better images. You can check out both cameras on our site via these links.

    I bought the FLIR, but the Seek Compact Pro has 4X the resolution and 2x the refresh rate.
    The only thing FLIR has going for it is the visual camera overlay.
    Also, you can hook up a USB-C power plug to run the FLIR while its being used and run longer than 45 minutes.

    OK these are great for seeing heat in an electrical panel, but what about using it to see inside walls before drilling? Will either one of these look inside the wall to show studs, pipes, or wires I might be drilling into?

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  6 лет назад +2

      Depending on some specifics, thermal imaging can be used to show you what is behind walls. That said, the technology only shows the surface temperature, so whatever you're attempting to detect needs to create a temperature difference. Some materials are better conductors than others, and insulation will inhibit any signal. A hot water line may be visible, but a cold water line is likely not detectable with thermal imaging.

    • @iFateev

      I’m an Electrician, I’ve been using the FLIR pro for a while and it’s a great tool. If you load up a circuit you can clearly see it through the gyprock, you can also identify neutrals this way. Radiant heating pipes are very easy to identify. Bad splices light up like a Christmas tree. And depending on the temperature difference between two rooms the studs will stand out very clearly. It’s been a lot more useful than I thought it would be.

    • @NigelTolley
      @NigelTolley 5 лет назад +1

      @@skyetube1 That's very useful to know. I'm probably going to go with the Flir Pro. Sure, it doesn't update the screen quite as fast, or have the higher res sensor, but properly overlayed sensor fusion more than makes up for that. I was worried about the sensitivity, but if you're spotting pipes and wires, that'll be enough for most uses.

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  8 месяцев назад

      Hello! Both work well for home inspection, but depending on your application you might pick one over the other. Currently, the FLIR is cheaper than the Seek Thermal Compact Pro (although this is subject to change), and the FLIR unit works well at close distances with its minimum focus distance of 0.15m and 0.3m for thermal and MSX, respectively. The MSX also helps with finer details if you're working with something that has labels, a lot of wires, etc., while the Seek Thermal Compact Pro needs just under 1m to focus. If you are looking more broadly at walls, checking insulation, etc., than the Seek Thermal Compact Pro might be better due to it's higher IR sensor. We hope this helped and if you have anymore question you can reach out to our product specialists here: www.tequipment.net/service/contact/

      Your idea for a camera holder is great! We'd love to see it once completed. As for sensitivity, we filmed this video just before FLIR increased the ONE Pro's sensitivity via firmware update to 70mK - this means the sensitivity is actually the same for both cameras. The issue you bring up at 10:00 is likely due to the different color palettes being used on each camera. I would say that the FLIR is actually showing a more accurate thermal picture there since most breakers would be slightly warm and you can clearly see some variation between them thanks to the bright orange - on Seek, all but the warmest breakers appear dark purple and it's difficult to see which ones are warmer/colder.

    I've read that the lightning plug can be manually adjusted/extended on the FLIR so that you can plug it in and use it with a protective case on your smart phone. How does that compare to the Seek in that regard? Is the Seek usable with, for example, an Otterbox case on an i-phone?

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  5 лет назад

      The FLIR should work perfectly with most cases because of the built-in adjustable connector. Seek Compact PRO does not have any accommodation for phone cases built into the unit. From Seek's website: "Some thicker smartphone cases (especially ruggedized ones) do not provide enough clearance around the connection port. To use the camera you must either remove the case, or attach the camera using an extender/adapter." Actually, with four times the pixels it DOES mean that Seek Thermal will always have a better, more accurate picture. MSX is a great tweak for people who, for whatever reason, want the picture to look prettier, and Seek Thermal shows way more detail, it also experiences much less noise, has a much greater detectable temperature envelope and it's sensor, as I personally found out after using then side by side, is way more accurate, has much grated detectable distance, etc. I'm really not sure how these two very different devices can even be compared when one costs $60 more, has a much lower resolution sensor, has am internal battery for whatever reason and a much lower refresh rate.
    Compact Pro is for the prosumers and professionals, Flir One is for posers who want their iPhone to have a buddy.

      I do this for a living. flir is absolutely the better choice no matter who is purchasing it. seek is very new to the industry. they have a reputable camera manufacturer but they lack the polish, tech, and software support that has taken flir so many years to perfect. even the guy in the video agrees that seek just isn't there yet. and the build quality of the seek if terrible and guaranteed to break prematurely. as the 2 products stand right now, you would have to be a fool to not go with flir. so don't listen to these to guys in this comment section. I mean we all have eyes, we saw how much cleaner and better the image quality was on the flir with msx on. so read the guys last sentence where he said that flir msx "looked plain ugly". That one statement should tell you all you need to know when pondering it you should trust what the guy said. its clear that he's bought the seek ir camera and just can't bring himself to the realization that he picked wrong. lol. either that or he's a shill for the company. trust what your eyes told you and go with flir. maybe 5 or 10 years down the road seek will be worthy of your money but not today.

    • @TheWorldsprayer
      @TheWorldsprayer Год назад

      @@caseydangar4414 Except it wasn't cleaner. What you had was lines from the camera superimposed which gave the eye the impression things were cleaner. What the Flir is no where near as good at is the actual temeprature gradients. Had this video shown the FLIR in any more BUT MSX mode it would have been immediately obvious that the Seek had far more thermal detail than the FLIR.
      So, the FLIR is better for doing work on electronics because of the image overlay, but the Seek will be far superior for things like heat leaks in a home inspection where you don't care about words and lines but the temperature of the scene alone.

      If your device is under warranty, FLIR will replace/repair it at their discretion. The warranty for the FLIR ONE Pro is 2 years parts and labor coverage on the camera and 10 years coverage on the IR detector. We cannot comment on repairability but it's safe to say that doing this will void your warranty. That said, if your warranty has expired, there are unofficial third party repair guides available online.

    Hello, I'm looking for a camera that has a long shutter speed to look at mountainsides for temperature differences. Do you know which one would be best? I suppose it does not need to be a really good one, because it does not have a short shutter speed like the pros use. But likely it needs an adjustable shutter speed and every pixel needs uniform sensitivity. It also probably needs a long focal length or range. Would you be able to point me in the right direction, I'm looking for something less than $300?

    • @TEquipment
      @TEquipment  3 года назад

      In reality, shutter speed is not a main consideration for most thermal imaging applications. Specifically for your application, since you're shooting a landscape, you likely don't need super fast exposure times. The camera's field of view and resolution/sensitivity are much more important considerations. You also need a camera with long range depending on the distance you are from the mountainside. To give you the best advice possible we need more information on your application. We suggest that you contact one of our product experts - we have certified thermographers on-staff who can help you find exactly what you need. According to the user manual for the S61, this phone's thermal camera has a resolution of only 80x60. This means the ONE Pro and Compact PRO both beat this phone in terms of IR resolution. It's likely that integrated IR camera phones will eventually reach this point, but since Cat just released the S61 last year, it will likely be at least another year for anything new from them.

    One MAJOR disadvantage of Flir is that the functional battery life is exactly two years..... The guarantee period, after which you can literally throw it away because even if you change the battery, it just won't work. Obviously if this clip was filmed with a new camera, he couldn't have known. I've seen many other Flir owners totally disappointed with the same problem..... Flir would offer a discount if you have this problem and buy a new flir camera but frankly, I wouldn't dream of buying another flir camera. Original camera costs about 200€ more than seek and it comes with those cheap orange batteries that self destruct by balooning. This is actually normal for most thermal imagers. The clicking sound is the activation of the shutter over the sensor. This is essentially a refresh process. As the temperature of the imager changes, it calibrates itself using an electromechanical shutter to sample the temperature of the environment. The frequency of the shutter depends on the ambient, system and scene temperatures. Seek says you should hear the shutter (clicking) sound every 2-3 seconds when the camera is first attached. If you hold it in one spot, the frequency should slow down to every 4-10 seconds. If you are panning around a room (or between rooms), it is natural for the clicking sound to become more frequent, as the unit adjusts to the different scenes/environments. If you believe your camera has an issue, you should contact Seek Thermal directly for support.

    i don't like the file format of seek. you can't do any processing after taking a picture. With Flir you just can edit a report with senseful information

      @David with a FLIR you get an thermal image. This image can be processed in your phone or tablet using FLIR's app. You can set different markers and see the exact temperature where you have set them. You can place a circle or a square and get it's hottest and coolest temperature and where was it sensed. You can set a profile across the image, and see the difference in temperature as well as peaks and lows. You can use this profile vertically or horizontally.
      The benefit of the FLIR is the big potential in post processing.

    for motherboard repair who is the best ?

      The Compact Pro has higher IR resolution than the ONE Pro, but the Compact Pro doesn't have any image blending capability. On the ONE Pro, you get powerful FLIR MSX which adds a high level of detail to thermal images so you can really see what you are looking at. For seeing tiny components on a motherboard, you might want the MSX feature on FLIR so you can see exactly which components are hot. Check them both out on our site below.

    Can I use the FLIR One while it is plugged in charging? So the accessory would be connected to my phone and charging to get over 1 hour of use? Is this possible?

      In the "User Guide" documentation for FLIR ONE Pro, FLIR states that "The FLIR ONE Pro is not intended
      to be charged while in use."
