I am going to DIY solar system and this will be great for making the house efficient before sizing the system and to check the connection after! Great review thanks!
i helped a dude find a wall that the insulators missed. also i found maybe 7 spots in my basement walls that were cold in the winter. i also diy'd my own solar pv and battery bank. there are so many uses for a thermal camera
I saw somebody on line using this for detecting hives in walls however my home has older plaster and something walls with mesh and neither of my thermal cameras can see through my walls in my home. I do know it does not see through glass very well at all, and there are different thermal camera technologies. If you're going to use it for that specifically , for your job you may want to do more research.
It’s still a spot infrared thermometer with a small thermal camera. You only get the temp in center from the infrared spot thermometer. Most low cost models are like this. Still nice for techs to get an entry level at this price.
The sensor resolution is 32 x 32. Frame rate is 9 Hz. NETD: 150 mK Those specs are about as low as you can get, but it's still cool to see this technology slowly becoming more available to the common consumer. A NETD of 150 mK means it will be able to detect a 0.27°F difference in temperature.
New 2nd generation Rx-350 from China has 160x120 - so twice, (or arguably if you multiply it, 18.75x) greater resolution, (avoid original generation rx350's) and now less than 50mk - and is ~$149 shipped to your door. That's how fast this aspect of the industry is moving. This camera that he reviews is 3+ year old technology.
@@iadr I just checked that out on aliexpress. The display screen is 160x120, while the sensor resolution is only 80x60. Not great, but better than the harbor freight one and still really good for the price! Sensor resolution is mostly what determines how much detail can be seen. Every thermal camera that I'm aware of will have a higher display resolution than sensor resolution. Combined with it's visible light image overlay, it should give you a usable picture.
youch. i have $500 unit 256-192 25hz and it looks great up close or far away. it spotted a mouse outside about 80 feet away, also have spotted deer and coyote in complete dark and about 1/4 mile
what like about this unit: cheap and appears durable i dont like that super low resolution. i bought the t2 pro and it works one things far away and close. i can always tell what i am looking at and its smooth. cost $450 to 500 but its not as durable.
NO, I use smoke to see air moving, inject it or in free air. There is a bubble liquid for HVAC trade that better than Dawn soap. If gas expands it you should see cooler spots right?
No, it does not give good enough resolution to see which component on a PCB is getting hot. It just kind of gets you down. really close to that component. I recommend the P2Pro same price range and comes with macro lense. Check out reviews on both and compare resolution. Drastic detail difference. The P2 sensor is susceptible to damage by intense heat sources so I have this Harbor Freight unit that I use on the regular for all kinds of things. The Harbor Freight camera works great on home wiring and older Electronics like tube amps and such but modern microelectronics it does nothing for. I still appreciate my Harbor Freight unit and use it often.
It’s heat sensitive, so it will show the difference in temps, however if it is behind a wall it will need to radiate heat or touch the wall, so it’s hit or miss
If there is a temperature differential on each side of the wall then I can always easily see the studs in a wall. You will be blown away how much heat/cooling is lost due to thermal bridging
No, it won't find mice behind a wall unless maybe if their nest is right up against the wall and there's several mice in it. But most likely not. They will help you see at night, but are distinctly different from night vision. For one, thermals cannot see through windows. There are plenty of videos comparing the two.
This is no good. If the color lines are dizzy it's not focusing correct & the temperatures measured is wrong. It's cheap and only use for scan after hot spots within 2 meters.
yeah it’s harbor freight so you have to set your expectations low when considering buying anything from there . for the average homeowner who uses it once in a blue moon it’s the best deal . for the tradesman who will use constantly , not so much
@@nielsdaemen I want to use it to check for hot spots on circuit boards and home insulation and thermal leakage, so I'm thinking the first part of the video can be a control like a warming up car engine or AC radiator fins of your home or coffee pot and then the remaining part of the video is you pointing at the heater or hot vents in your home and then a closed door to the room that has the heater or something that shows how the heat escapes from the room? (from around the door etc) What do you think? We can email each other too
I rented one from my school, and you can't see footprints with regular shoes. You can briefly see footprints on wood floors if someone walks barefoot or with socks. For tracking, you'll want an object he or she was touching for a minute or so, otherwise it will fade completely in a few minutes. Interestingly, you can't see through windows. The glass acts as a mirror, so you just see yourself if you try to look through.

I’d use it to detect heat loss in my home in the winter in order to plastic my windows right.
Smart
What would you think its ability to detect heat behind Sheetrock. I need something to see beehives inside walls. They give off a good deal of heat.
Woa 🤯

Not a bad toolbox imager to give to your guys out in the field. I wouldn't use it for any serious diagnosis.

It's specs are that of a $150 device while right now costs $220... Cool but seems over priced.
On sale right now for 159 with 20 dollar coupon. Nice tool to have for those just in case moments!
I just want one so i can finally *see* my farts so i can enjoy them with all my senses ❤
take it to the cow farm and go to town , you will have a blast 😂

1794? I would love to come over and metal detect on your property!
Can this be used for mold? THnx for video...
Do you think this could be used to find air coming out of ground for cave detection?
That's a new one
Where I live it gets really cold out, -40f. We look for steam rising up thru the trees. Works great.
I would think it would work fabulously for that. Now I am excited to go try.
Thanks
Can it find water lines in the ground
Its up to 219.00 now, still not bad.
...and it went up another $5 to $225 in May of 2023, at least in California.
Can this record video?
Can you use it to find air leaks on a piece of machinery that uses air cylinders?
NO, I use smoke to see air moving, inject it or in free air. There is a bubble liquid for HVAC trade that better than Dawn soap.
If gas expands it you should see cooler spots right?
What is the resolution is it more or less than 14400 p
Will this be good for plumbing?
Can I look at circuit boards with it? Veins in back of hand? 73 DE W8LV BILL

Can this be used for ghost hunting?
no the resolution is inadequate; pretty abysmal specs.
@@georgetsetsakos6088 you really think resolution is going to be why it can’t find ghosts?!?!
@@athhud 1,000%!
How far will it go? I’m looking for a thermal for coyote hunting but they are all crazy money
It does have huge distance it, I would say 20 feet is realistic
Infiray has a couple good for field spotting.
what's the resolution? I'd try it for circuit board repair.
32x32 poor, spent more on a infaray
I have the same recommendation. P2 Pro has macro for PCB
A year later and it’s up to $225.
Can this be used to detect dry wood termites ?
Potentially, as activity generates heat. Id spend a little more if you are planning on seeing through walls though.
Will it find wall studs? Wires? Pipes?
It’s heat sensitive, so it will show the difference in temps, however if it is behind a wall it will need to radiate heat or touch the wall, so it’s hit or miss
There’s tools are HB and HD that find studs, wires, and pipes
If there is a temperature differential on each side of the wall then I can always easily see the studs in a wall. You will be blown away how much heat/cooling is lost due to thermal bridging
Would it help find mice behind a wall?
Also, does it work as a night vision device?

Too low res for some
Can you find rodents in the walls with that device?
Can I use this on my girlfriend?
Yes can confirm
Can this camera pickup termites in a wall ?
Thermal cameras help with lithium-ion battery repairs.
Display resolution: 160 x 128
Man, is that out of date.
Can you see a human thru a wall?
no. Not unless your walls are really thin. I can't see through glass well so you can see somebody through a window that it can't see.
This is no good.
If the color lines are dizzy it's not focusing correct & the temperatures measured is wrong.
It's cheap and only use for scan after hot spots within 2 meters.
Not great a tool. Broke after 3rd use. Power button broke. Returned.
Wow, I’m still using mine
