I'm so glad this is on washers. I haven't been impressed with the action of anything Spyderco has ever put on bearings, but they've always been good at washers
I actually prefer your disassembly videos where things go wrong. They are more educational. I know how to turn a screw but don't know the ins and outs of maintaining these knives. Thank you, sir.
I like this format. I would like a disassembly video after long term use with the good, the great, the bad and the ugly talked about during the work. I usually watch both of the videos about knives I like but if I only watch one it's disassembly and maintenance.
Hey Nick you should do a poll to see if more of your audience wants you to do this kind of disassembly where you release it early or the kind of disassembly you normally do and posted with the actual review
Absolutely stunning knife Nick! I've heard that the time to mill the scales is up there with the stepped titanium chaparral ...supposedly Taichung only MADE 10 per day!! Looking forward to getting mine and thanks for your time and effort!

Love how it has that thumb cutout contour for pushing the lock away. I want the zt 0452cf so bad but it doesn’t have any lower spot or cutout at all so the frame lock is completely level with the opposite side of the handle and I find it not super simple to push with thumb. Sorta gotta dig in between to get at it. And I never hear anyone mention that so I must be the only one who has that issue.
Glad you did the side by side with the Chef. That confirmed my first impression, which was that the Drunken is basically a super-pimped Chef in a lot of ways. Looks really nice, but probably a bit too spendy for me.
The threadlocker might be something like Vibra-Tite, which is what I use. It is rated for re-use and is easy to use. It stays gummy instead of hardening during curing, allowing future adjusting, but it is not as strong as Loctite but the strength I think is fine for the application. Otherwise, screws that small need liquid Loctite in order to remain in the threads. The gel and stick Loctites are too thick and get pushed out of the threads when assembled.
A very ZT looking effort from Spyderco here. The backspacer looks lifted from the ill fated ZT0777 as well as the tri point pivot from so many others (Microtech) Add the orbital price and I'm left with a no. Enjoying my Neutron thanks to you man!
@Nick Shabazz What is that disassembly tool that has a frag pattern and is anodized to blue/black? What is that driver and where to purchase? Thanks Buddy great video as always, BTW hurry up with the review of the Spyderco Drunken!
I like the early disassembly and first impressions videos. That being said seeing the Chef and Drunken right next to each other makes me want the Chef more. Save a lot of money by ditching the bling and milling.
What are the torque screw tools you use? I like them. On a side note - I just purchased a Shirogorov 111 in orange and black carbon fiber and I should be receiving it tomorrow, but after watching your review on the CKF Sukhoi 3 I think I need to get another Russian piece! Love your vids, thanks!
@@jakefromstatefarm1405 I think so. Into around my fourth year of this crazy knife hobby, I finally had to see what the fuss was about with crk. Just ordered 2 Spydi UKPK S30V G10 full length back bar Clipit with red G10 scales, Heinnie Haynes (UK stockists). I 've got/had several BD1 s and got 2 CPM 110vs with blue FRN scales currently. Got a S30V UKPK with titanium scales with phosphorus washers slightly thicker blade with full length tension back bar Clipit design from about 10 years back. Funny thing is about 1 or 2 months ago I sent them an email stating how I love the UKPK but could they improve the UK legal slip joint. It's like they've listened. To be honest I know why they've not improved the UKPK, it's almost perfect going off what choices us down trodden G B citizens have on offer. That's why they find it hard to improve the design but they seem to be upgrading materials. Used several as a work knife with just sharprning as maintenance for years all still good no play, slightly scared FRN scales and modded bevel. Got a RAT 2 recently as an engineer can use locking blades at work, a lot slower deployment and to me an unnatural hand position in comparison. Already sliced my thumb. UKPK s are cool, ultra lightweight, excellent ergos , fast deployment, deep wire clip type, sturdy blades. ATB from Mcr. UK. Thanks Nick. Plz. Do a quick review on one I dare you. The only thing that keeps me from getting a Spyderco like this (or the Bowie, or the Chef, or the Techno 2...) is the obstruction of the opening hole by the lock bar.
I really like most things Sinkevich, but that is a big price tag that puts it in contention with tough competition. Taking s90v that thin is questionable from my experience. If they did it s35vn, and did made smarter material/pocket slip choices and knocked that price down it would have been a homerun! Look what ZT has done with his designs and the price they sell them for.... Please Spyderco, do a lower priced version in something like s30v/s35vn and g10 and call it the delirium.
Could someone with CNC experience comment on the extra time and tooling needed for liner milling and wave cutting on the carbon fiber and titanium faces? I think Spyderco has priced this about $100 over its worth but then again look at Chris Reeve.
I am very interested in owning this knife....but I am in no hurry...at that price,I am betting that they will be available. I need to see some thorough reviews.

Bearings are only better than washers when the bearings are multi row or ikbs with over a dozen bearings. The cheap bearings that most brands use that have like 6 balls on them are junk, with any heavy use they start to loosen up, just too much force distributed over a very small area, point loads are enough to deform the steel backing washers or liners they contact.
This video is why knife manufacturers like Spyderco say that taking apart your knife invalidates your warranty. Someone convince Nick he could service his Pelagos and get him to record it on RUclips. That would be hilarious.
Spyderco trying to compete with the high-end Chinese manufacturers (WE and Reate) is folly, IMO. Spyderco's costs are just higher at their Taichung manufacturer. You'd have to be a true Spyderco fan to buy this.

It'd better be the most impressively machined Spyderco...It's the most expensive (retail, not aftermarket mark ups like the Slys? Bowie) Spyderco that I know of. I still don't get why all that machining makes it cost SO MUCH, though. I mean, slabs of material are put into a CNC machine, buttons are pressed, and you just walk away...Waiting for it to finish milling. Sure, there's more wear and tear on your machine, but people aren't actually DOING anything. It's not like someone is doing all that by hand with a Dremel or something...
I had a zt0920 that I loved. I noticed that I wouldn’t carry it very often though. I realized later that it was because the clip sucked royally. This knife looks amazing in every way, except the clip..... that’s a shame...

Youd have to be drunk to buy this knife at that price. Especially being made in Taiwan. The milling on the full ti and cf S90V Native 5's are better imho. They're made in the US and didn't cost $400. Neither did the fluted ti military. I've had this one in hand and it should be competitively priced with Zero Tolerance. Spyderco prices are getting out of hand.
$410 for a knife, a spyderco at that, that uses a steel liner instead of a titanium one. Wouldn't a titanium liner on one side after having titanium on the opposing side have made more sense? Seems someone was "drunken" while designing and pricing this knife. Pass.
