    I'm glad I found and bought the spydiechef. Even though it is cheaper, the chef is still quite a bit of an asking price, but for that money I have received a knife that does literally everything I want it to do, makes me smile every time I use it, and makes me not want to buy any more pocket knives because it does everything I want well enough that I don't yearn for anything more.

    Honestly I just can't imagine a better pocket knife than the Chef. I can find so many reasons to carry it. I also own the Slysz Bowie and I'll carry the Chef every day over it. Superior fit and finish does not make a better pocket knife.

    LC200 is much tougher steel than s90v. You are correct, s90v is harder to machine and finish due to its high wear resistance, where it excels over many other steels, lc200 including, but as many other steels with high carbide content, s90v is brittle (opposite to tough).

    The first spydie chef went for $169ish without the ceramic detent ball. I sold that for the $215 upgraded CQI version. I still think the Chef is the better deal over the drunken overall.

    As a Spydiechef owner, I can say it’s an exceptional knife, but rather plain in its design and execution. Based on all I have seen and read, by comparison the pricing of the Drunken seems justified. I really want to test drive one and see if I personally love it enough to purchase.
    Good to see you commenting on a few production pieces again!

    Super excited. I got a pimped out Spydiechef done by Esteban, Just snagged a Drunken from a blade member. Can't wait till Monday! How are you liking the Paysan? The chef if by far one of my favorite knives, the blade shape really does it for me. I do a lot of food prep with it, but its just a beast all around. The Krein regrind ones are really a lazer for food prep.

    I have the CQI version of the SpydieChef and absolutely think it's worth the price! Maybe some day I'll have a Drunken to call my own.
    My beef with the people sniveling about some of these prices is their lack of understanding in regards to how the money is split from the purchase of a single knife.
    There is the retail price that is basically fixed by the maker who has to pay royalties to the designer as well as the material and manufacturing costs associated including shipping and applicable taxes from governments. So they have to price things so they can make a profit too!

    I have both The Spydiechef and the a Slysz Bowie and I do understand cost to manufacture..to me a better comparison would be the Sinkevich Drunken and the ZT 0456 Ti..they look closer to each other..really cool milling..yes?

  • @darichard11
    @darichard11 5 лет назад +2

    Great comparison. Thanks. I haven't held the Paysan or the Drunen. From the pictures I've seen I can see why they likely cost what they do. I would likely be more convinced if I held them given my experience with other more costly Spydies. They both appear to have an excellent level of detail work. I'd have to hold them to see how good the fit and finish are.

  • @d4mdcykey

    The SpydieChef is, by far, one of the best most-functional knives I've ever owned, that thing just keeps on keeping on no matter what I throw at it, even living on the beach with the salt water and sand.
    The Drunken just does nothing for me personally, nothing specific buts its not grabbed me enough to put down that kind of money.

    • @mikegreen2214

    I had a SpydieChef a number of years ago and got one again to give it a go again....and will probably sell it...again. Ultimately I think the SpydiChef just has too much belly for me and though proposed as a culinary tool, while I think it would work just fine, I still appreciate slightly straighter blade to handle alignments. Perhaps the Drunken would be a good choice...but alas, I have so many knives and the fact that I spend most of my days making chef knives, I almost never even carry a knife anymore, but do enjoy Spyderco as the hole opener is my favorite and have been collecting once again for fun....so checking some reviews. I think the Kapara is a Magnificent design and probably outshines either of these knife in actual practical use.....just my idea. I may do a review on the Kapara vs. the SpydieChef.....but I am sure it's been done already. Anyhow, thanks for the post.....I get around to checking these knives SO Long after they came out;)

    Any idea why spyderco makes all their super knives with s90 instead of s110? They make a whole line of blurple knives and they don’t do that with s90. It makes it feel like spyderco has plenty of s110v lying around, but doesn’t want to use it on it’s best stuff... thoughts?

    • @micgalovic
      @micgalovic 5 лет назад +1

      S90V is more suitable for pocket knives. S110V can chip more easily than S90V and the edge retention is not that much better.

      I'm a bit on the opposite side of the spectrum, I guess. I own no Spyderco's, but I would probably get my hands on a Drunken once there will be third party deepcarry (MXG) pocketclip available for it. Even despite a single Drunken costing 475€ over here.

  • @mikegreen2214
    @mikegreen2214 2 года назад +1

    One thing to note:
    If you’re talking about material properties, LC200N is a significantly tougher steel than S90V.
    In my opinion, it’s also a superior and much-preferable knife steel overall, but that depends on what you’re looking for.

    I bet when you're getting ready for an operation and open a new scalpel, look at it up close and think "hmm, is this thin enough behind the edge? I wonder what steel this is? I bet ??? steel would be more efficient on these scalpels." Lol. I'm not sure if you're a surgeon or not but it's fun to imagine this.

Some of the best steel/blades come from the Orient(i.e.Seki City).I have both examples due to my sickness for modified sheepfoot blades.
