A shame paddle shifters are no longer standard on auto MINIs. Automatic transmissions are also heavier than manuals. However, with the advent of BEV's, weight is a moot point. Sad my next MINI will likely not have a manual transmission. Thanks for the review, Ethan.
I live in a congested city and driving a manual transmission vehicle is a torture especially when getting old. I love driving a manual transmission vehicle in rural areas where there’s not much stop and go. So for me to enjoy driving a manual transmission as a daily ride, I need to move to a rural area, and that is not something I’m willing to do just to get the approval from folks from the internet.
definitely looking for a automatic mini. Im scared to drive manual since i feel like i will forget to shift and all that. i didn't even know MINI had automatics, i just thought it was all manual. Thanks for the review.
Yeah you are right, we have tried but it’s a carbon hood and it needs a lot of modifications to get it to fit. Still not too handy with working with carbon
My 24 F56 has a 7 speed DCT. It took me awhile to get used to it coming from a car with a CVT. It can be jerky at low speeds, and when I'm stuck in traffic it acts like it struggles to figure out what it wants to do, as I move forward just a few feet at a time. It still feels like a good match for a sporty car, and in most cases it shifts smoothly.
@@carcreationsyt I never use sport or green mode. Someone told me if I put it in green mode it will help in traffic jams. Others have told me it's a DCT and it's common for them to be jerky at low speeds.
That’s the fun of the steptronic. You CAN shift whenever you want, but without the hassle of working a clutch (which matters if you’ve had an ankle or knee destroyed). You don’t HAVE to just passively sit there with it in D. I’m a manual transmission purist but there’s no reason to be a snob about it with a MINI.
I’m having an issue with my MINI where sometimes when in drive and on a hill it slides back at fast speeds as though it’s a manual. So when I’m moving from the brake to the gas I have to slam on the gas in order to move forward or the car will roll back like it’s in neutral. The service team at MINI Universal (Studio City, CA) is claiming this is normal, but this seems crazy to me. How can an automatic car roll backwards in a free fall inconsistently and that be safe? What if a child or animal walks behind me when this happens? Has anyone experienced this? I’m looking into the potential that the hill assist isn’t properly activating as well. Thank you!
Hmm, I know that depending on your transmission it’s actually a manual transmission but with auto built on top. It shouldn’t roll that much though. Do you have any errors pop up?
I chuckle to myself every time I hear someone say a manual transmission is better than a modern automatic transmission. Anyone who believes this clearly hasn't used a ZF, PDK or proper dual clutch. If you enjoy driving at the limit and going as quick as possible, nothing beats a modern auto with a responsive set of paddle shifters. I've been driving manual sports cars for 25 years. The latest being a highly modified Fiesta ST and honestly the biggest drawback of the car is the lack of a good auto trans. Mine was a hell of a tool but it would have been even sharper with a slick shifting auto and some paddles. Hell even the 6 speed auto in my old 17 F56 S was decent and I'm really looking forward to the 7 speed dct in the 21 I'm picking up in a few weeks. Also the noise they make on up shifts is intoxicating! My 17 had the JCW pro exhaust & tune and more than likely I put it on the 21 as well. Love me some Farts!
😆 yeah… I think people like the manual feel of it, but it’s definitely not better from a performance standpoint. I also do love the farts between shifts on my auto, you don’t get that with a manual!
For me Mini = fun and fun = manual And in Québec we've got big winters and manuals are much more better for control on slipery roads. Auto are really betters but not so good for fun driving, better for normal driving in traffic so.
Coming from a old Miata. The automatic mini I got so my wife could drive feels a bit gutless if you don't turn Sport mode on. It feels more like a manual with sport mode (the toggle at the base of the gearstick) not switching the stick to the left for the manual shifting mode. The manual shifting in sport mode isn't too bad 90% of the time. But it does catch you out with something dumb if something unexpected happens. Plus, with all the idiot drivers in my city, having a clutch gives you more options when someone jumps a redlight or steps out in front of you at the last moment. It's at those moments when you are at the threshold of taking off and can't manipulate the clutch is when I miss it the most.
i have a 6spd auto F56 S, i really would not want it in manual. the manual transmission minis just feel terrible compared to any other brand, and the six speed auto shifts insanely fast. i have a 1990 crx i will keep around for if i want to row my gears.
They are just tools to get a job done, it is irrelevant for me, I have owned both kinds of cars, but companies seem to he walking away from manuals. People seem to lean towards manual transmissions based on the fun, effort and feelings of driving, not everybody cares about that when it comes to cars. Going to the gym, how your house looks, fashion and similar activities that have en emotional factor to it tend to ignite cult attitudes in its fandom.
im sorry pal but you need to know the truth, which is half of the things you have done to the car looks very bad quality! you might think you cant tell and it still looks better than standard but things like that bonnet/hood makes it look so tacky!! i can see a mile off how the belt line dosent fit it properly, i can see the panel gaps not lining up correctly, and lots and lots more please if you upgrade anything else you take your time and do a proper job
Thanks for watching! Feels a bit aggressive when talking about some panel gaps, but I guess that may do it for some people. The issue with the carbon hood is that it requires a lot of modification of the carbon fiber to get it factory spec and tools+methods that every day people can’t do. The point of the channel is to do mods every one can do themselves so buying carbon tools and completely changing the hood was a little bit out of scope for the video/project. Maybe in the future I will find simple tools that will do the job and learn some methods to modify carbon in a way any person in their garage can do!
@@carcreationsyt I’m sorry for upsetting you my friend but you remind me of myself a little 10 years ago and I tried modifying my car thinking that it looked really good at the time and in reality after a year or 2 of the novelty with wrapping something in carbon ect, I looked back and noticed it looked abit tacky and I was not fooling anyone how with it being diy lol, just don’t want you to do the same when I can tell how expensive some of those parts must of been, anyway good look
@@carcreationsytDon't get discouraged by this purist clown man, your mods look really good. I bought a stock Mini F56 because my main car (Taycan 4S) got hit in a bad accident and I wanted something fun to drive around. I'm very envious of your upgrades (spoiler, hood, exhaust etc..). I'll probably be getting the exact same stuff.

I agree!! I had to retrofit mine!
Thanks so much for watching!!
Is there a kit for that?
I’m not even looking at Minis and seldom subscribe. But I like your personality so you got a new one.
Really appreciate your subscription and support!! It means the world to us!!
Fantastic video! Really interesting!!! Keep up the good job!!

Thanks for watching! The auto is really nice, I got my parents into a mini because of the auto trans.
from the video there seems to be the bonnet, higher than the side arches, have you thought about adjusting it?

I ordered the 2024 Mini 2 door sport with manual because it is my fun car. Test drove the auto and wasn't as much fun.

Interesting! I didn’t realize it could be like that. Do you know if it changes depending on if it’s in sport mode or not?

Is there any difference between 6 and 7 auto trans of cooperS bro? The 6speed good enough?
The 7 speed shifts quicker and is better in fuel however I would say the difference is slim

In Switzerland, manual minis are way cheaper than automatic ones
if the mini stick was good then yes, but its not that great. no reverse lockout comes to mind.

I noticed it the worst on the clubman, I don’t remember the hatch being bad, but the clubman was super sloppy
these complaints have zero to do with minis
Just automatics in general 😅😆
