    First thing would be check the ecu mapping. I believe its running stage 2 /3 with the supporting mods in had. And now it's on a stock air box and has a cat etc it's got too hot / too much fuel. Flash it back to stock then work on the engine. Otherwise all it will do is trash your new engine/ repaired engine in the same way

    • @SeriousAboutSalvage

      I 100% believe the map has caused this, bet it was some cheap generic crap!

    Hello. My Mini JCW F56 had the same problem. I took it to the local Mini dealership and it turned out that there was a missfire on the #2 cylinder. It turned out that the whole engine had to be removed and changed. The dealership paid 30% of the new engine and Mini 70% so I didn’t have to pay anything. When I was googling to find some answers I found out that some people have had the same problem. Now I have driven about 10 000km with the new engine without any problems🤩 (And the car was completely stock)

    agree with afew other comments , its was previously modified then unmodified , the fuelings probably been off and over time its melted the piston , you can replace the piston and put the engine back together as the bores look clean / undamaged. id reccomend a timing kit while at this point once damamge assessed obviously , have it flashed back to stock when it gets to that point.
    if youve a engine hoist id reccoment taking the engine out top over and not blocking the ramp and just doing it on the floor/ where it is.

    • @Mr_Whippy92
      @Mr_Whippy92 2 года назад +2

      use ptrol to test head / valves for passby as its thinner but im going to go straight down the avenue of its fine and its the piston has gone.
      id price up a second hand running engine vs parts and tools required depending on what future you want the car to have , if your gonna keep it put the piston etc in and buy the timing tools and kit to change the chain , if its gonna be flipped to get your money back id put a secondhand bare useed engine in without doing anything to it bar maybea service and send it on its way. im gonna assume a secondhand engines probably more expensive than timing tools , new chain kit etc but its a case of time and the unknown in both cases .

Only once you've got a full damage assessment can you make the best decision about how to repair. Hope you have some better luck with this one mate. Definitely looking forward to the cool content that a rebuild will bring :-) cheers.

    My god you still make it look easy. Can tell it mustn't be, but still. In terms of what to fix and not I guess it depends on how costly it is, since you aren't keeping it I'd be looking to fix what is broken rather than going overkill. Good luck!

    I would drop the sump to gain access to the rod n piston. Remove it and inspect the bore. If it doesn't require a re bore just replace piston n rings n rebuild rather than create more work removing the engine if you don't have to.

    I'd pop it on the lift, sumps off and pull out number 4. You may not need to take the engine out.... others may not be needed, if a local failure 1 will do, if caused by overheating then you'll be doing rings on all 4...be positive just take number 4 out and examine it honestly. Go from there.

    Hi from durham phil👋 your approach has bin bang on start top work your way in but maybe easier to take front end back off to get that copart joke work done as bumper off ( hope they can be accountable for damage too cos there will be pre collection pics and on site pics for resale in auction 🤔😬 ) "" d**kheads man no respect for their costumers!!! But give engine full overhaul and spin all lower bearing out and check crank too! Cos the bit of fragment/piston debries could of caused more damage elsewhere (hopefully not) weve bin through enough with this (and they say mini adventure) 🤔 bin more like duke of Edinburgh award this adventure👍🤔 your doing great tho pal really getting more confident in what your tasking yourself 👍👍 complete engine build then put gearbox and engine as a full unit back in as you will have access to most stuff more comfortably without front end on lol but yeah great show 👍 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon 👍👍👋

    @ralphmctell5210 2 года назад +1

    not sure if you can get sump off in situ, but if you can, I'd remove it up on the ramp and whip No 4 cap off and piston and rod up and out. It doesnt look as if there is any bore damage on the side of the missing chunk. Bit of a coincidence that number 4 plug has problems. I wonder if someones been in there before and botched a helicoil job and let a bit drop down. Then again I'd expect to see bore damage. Good luck with it anyway.

    What has caused the piston rings to break, that is the question.
    What could have happened is, it has been stood for a long time and the piston got stuck in the barrel, and when it was started up for the first time, it caused the damage.
    I would get a low mileage second hand engine or recon engine, as there could be hidden damage elsewhere on the engine.

    This car is jinxed for sure. Minis look not the easiest to work on. Get the lump out and if the crank and bore is ok put a piston in. Get shot of it
