IT’S CALLED FREEEEE LABOR! No way am I gonna be the consumer & the laborer. SCO is being sold to the masses all in the name of “convenience” which is not convenient at all if you have to scan, punch in codes, bag & cash yourselves out. It’s more of a pain in the ass when the screen locks up on you because it thinks your stealing & an actual human has to come & assist a defective tech device. People are trained & paid to do what stoopid willing volunteers do for free. I always request for a cashier because they can’t force you to sco if you’re not on their payroll. The one time they insisted, I told them I couldn’t read & place me on their payroll then I’ll happily check myself out! I still had a cashier do everything they are paid to do including bag. I absolutely refuse to do any of checkout process & they get upset & I respond with “yeah your mad at the wrong person when you should be highly upset that technology is taking your jobs!” It’ll make sense one day, I pray before it’s too late.

So virtually nothing happens to the scores of people stealing products from the shelves daily (which is why many products are locked up nowadays) but I'm supposed to believe in the likelihood of paying $1000s and facing criminal charges for an accident on self-checkout?! I smell BS.

That is so sad! Most people do not have the intention of stealing. People aren’t trained or getting paid to scan our own products. Shame on these stores, as a they have no one working anymore, to check out.

Hi Joe, I thought this video was going to take us into SovCit territory! If/when you get to defend such a case it would be interesting to hear about it. Some years ago I filled my car with petrol and drove off the forecourt without paying- a genuine mistake on my part. When I went back a few days later and remembered to pay this time, the manager showed me the footage of me driving off without paying. Very embarrassing. The garage could have called the police but the fact I was a frequent customer saved me. For what it's worth I hate self checkouts too; I usually do something wrong and start shouting at the machine.

      @joethelawyer367  Год назад +2

That was a very professional move by the manager. I have a similar reaction toward them Geoff! If stores are losing money over this - there’s an easy solution. Take that money and pay a human!

It is really ridiculous for anybody to go straight to the police especially over fairly small amounts of money we're typically talking about here.... It is this assumption that you Must be some horrible person if you're stealing. Hell, even if you did take it on purpose without paying, people are in desperate situations out here. That doesn't mean they're going to rob a bank and murder people next.
It's a messed up society and these big corporations have a lot to do with the poor conditions people are living and working in. If they screw up somebody's life forcing them through an unnecessary trial and having to pay lawyers and all that, or they end up in jail, all they are doing is creating more people who are more likely to purposely steal at some point, often out of necessity. Our society doesn't like to solve problems we like to punish even when it does not result in less harm occurring or actively worsens our problems.

🤔 I've been using self checkout for years, literally ever since they popped up at my states store called Fred Meyers like way back in 2008. I've never heard of this before, or have ever seen this happen.

It never happened towards me since I have been using self checkout at Walmart or Target. Target just got them in self checkout lanes. I do take my time in checking out. I always grabbed the bags when I started to bag my items. I don’t buy any alcohol at all. I used to checked people out when I used to worked in a grocery store near me during the off season during the early 2000’s. I almost forgot to ring up a bottle of Diet Pepsi once at Walmart. I did double checked the receipt just in case.

If I have to check myself out I will do it online and they can leave it at the door. Exception: I am learning to do self checkout at the library. They are teaching me.

Of course - if the stolen items you never stole amount to a value worthy of a felony theft charge that you never committed at all - YOU COULD STILL FACE UP TO 2-5 YEARS IN STATE PRISON.
You will not be branded as a sex offender for a theft crime, but you will face something close to that---
    1. Still severe damage to your reputation.
    2. Still a rap sheet you may never be able to expunge or seal at all.
    3. Some people will disown you.
    4. Finally - you face more and more encumbrances to future employment opportunities.
    5. You could be watched more carefully by loss prevention employees, store security guards, and even snitches whenever you shop again at stores, if you do get out of jail on bail or an I-bond for shoplifting. Just like registered sex offenders even if you are not! You will be watched, and you will not be free!
All of these potential legal consequences simply for scanning at a self-checkout without any intent to commit larceny? This is not good! Tough times! Worse times!

I would never use a self checkout. I also don't agree with a customer having to bag their own groceries. It's odd and rude. They should at least have an automated system to ring up and bag the items.

I just saw her Tik Tok. Thanks. Doesn't matter if it checks out. I am now paranoid. Also, IT DOESN'T HELP TO SAY "ONLY OPTIONS ARE SELF" Here's what I need: HOW can I make sure I don't get harassed? Not wear a Trump hat? What can we do at the scanning spot to be sure we are not on their radar??? Nobody is giving this advice! F!!! I sometimes make myself a pain in the ass by using the services of that one CS retailer floating around the self checkout lanes. I make sure to get her/him involved in my "gray-area purchases" like accurately identifying a particular potato or fruit. I also buy many cans of cat food. Does it help for her to sign off a count tally on my receipt before I leave? Do I yell for a manager to check my entire list before I leave? I have no problem doing that as a guarantee. HELP!
