I used velocidrone for a week using the settings you provided in another video. Crashed many, many times. Just went full fpv for the first time today, and it is easier than the Sim for me. Thank you sir for your help and information.
Your sim is great! But one thing I am sad with is I am not seeing developers care much in race drone sims upgrading the LoS simulation. Why don't you make a category in the main menu only for los play. Getting in the ideal map for los. Having options to pick different camera views.. I like for example Rotor Rushes and freeriders different cam views on the drone.. Would be great if there where options for this.. Then it would be realy the all around best sim I believe.. Is it so difficult?
press F to toggle between FPV and line of sight mode when you are in flight mode. We don't currently let you assign the camera for this but it would not be difficult to add this - we have just not had any requests for this at all
As a new pilot with the Tinyhawk 2 RTF, I was so frustrated trying to learn with just the quad that I was about to bag it. I finally downloaded Velosidrone and used the Tinyhawk as a dongle through Betaflight to use the controller in the RTF. After 4-5 hours in the sim I took the quad out for a run. The difference was STUNNING! I still have a LONG way to go, but I’m now looking at my next upgrade to expand my experience. Thank you for all your instructional vids. This is a complicated and intimidating sport, and your vids make it possible for a guy like me to get into this amazing sport.
I have a Tinyhawk 2 also and I can tell you that a tiny quad is much harder to learn on than a 4 or 5 inch quad. The response time is way faster than a mini quad but if you can eventually master it, you won't have any problems flying a 5" quad.
No fewer words can be used to get this and many other points across. Since meeting you Steele (really feels like weave met) with sobriety, COG, and General Physics, my life has and will be forever changed for the better. You and many of your acquaintances, have shown me sturdy ladder and foundation to grow and flourish.
I agree fully with Mr Steele, all others feel like just games where Velocidrone is a simulator. There are so many things that would have to be identical to your quad to make it the same as real life but in the end Velocidrone is 90-95% in the ball park.
Perfect timing. Just bought velocidrone yesterday after hearing you guys talk about it on your podcast (yes I listen all the way through. the more random the better!) and I was trying to figure out good rates/pids. so thanks for sharing and feel better.
Thanks a bunch! I too have no interest in playing games. I am new to the hobby and want to practice and your help with the simulator is getting me up and running quicker.
Simulator is the best way to learn stuff for sure. I learn flip in simulator first and tried the real deal and no problem first try. Tips in real life, leaves can actually hurt your real drone which most sim treat them like their fin air.
I actually agree with you.... I was playing with the steam setup and it felt more Windows XP level .... I ended up purchasing velocidrone because I support the people that I believed you the best work ...
man that's a setback. feel better quickly. because we wait every day. on an inspiring new content. thanks for all that. so a little less is not bad either.
agreed dude, i think velocidrone does the best job,its definitely helped me to try new thing without trashin shit, i just popped a couplee bucks on the patreon too support and i just finished off my Mr Steele Alien build today, first flight tomorrow, cant wait , kiora from New Zealand bruv
Canada here, I just bought a very cheap 250 ($150) a month or so ago and nuked the settings immediately and have crashed non-stop. But now I've finally cranked my attitude responses way up and luckily haven't lost it in the treetops yet. Landed in some damp grass and blew a trace, then fried a battery. Janky solder job later and a couple new batteries later and we're flying on the reg. I love this tech and hope to find people around me to rip with. It's been a lot of work to fly but it is so much fun and its all I want to do these days. I too hope to see more people getting into it. Everyone that sees it in person is so amped on it but is scared of completely wrecking it and losing their investment. I slammed hard in my first 23 seconds of my first flight and ended up waiting 7 business days until replacement parts arrived.
it's 2019, I am returning to the hobby after a few years off. Have any other simulators gained your attention as the best actual simulator? I'm trying to shake off the rust a little bit in the virtual world. Thank you.
I appreciate you taking the time to give us your opinion. I actually purchased Velocidrone because of this vid (I had already previously purchased liftoff, drl and fpv freeridier). I set up with your settings in velocidrone and to my surprise (other than your rates) I found it flies a whole lot like liftoff :-) The exception would be that velocidrone does seem to have some bounce back, while my liftoff setup has none (which is a little unrealistic). I don't personally think DRL is in the same league as either liftoff or velocidrone...a year ago DRL was pretty good, but since it became a paid product it feels like I am flying a tank. I agree that some sliders in liftoff would be awesome (more thrust, more gravity, etc etc) for fine tuning the setup to be like a specific quad. Not sure which I'll end up with as my favourite, but I will certainly spend some time in each one just to get a feel for different setups.
I go with DRL. Its easy to download. Install. Hook up the ol Taranis X9D. Sims probably gave me some bad habits though like just cutting out the motor when I feel close to the ground when coming in for a landing.
Topic Suggestion: Motor Size/KV/Prop Pitch/Shape/Amps. That whole equation. I've never seen a good, beginner friendly explanation. I'm about to build my first quad from scratch and my current plan on motors/props is to...copy somebody else because I know that works. I'd like to understand why that works, and what effect changing different variables has and why somebody might want to do that. Cheers dude.
The one thing I had to do that I think Others May benefit from in order to make them feel realistic and not as floaty as they all seem to do is add tons of weight in the settings I went all the way up to Max on the 160
Simulators get me through NE Ohio winters. It's too damn cold to fly outside! Flying in simulators has really improved my skills and made maneuvers less scary haha! I would love to see a video of you ripping a simulator.
I got a Taranis and a drone simulator after watching one of Steele's other videos, suggesting to do that before buying any quad gear when you first start out. And I'm glad I did; I've crashed 100's of times in the sim, and hopefully that subtracts a little bit from the number of IRL crashes I have...but I will say I've been having a blast with Liftoff. If they fix the menu loading times and make it a lot easier to test different quad configs within the game, then it would be a much better experience.
I remember you talking smack about sims not to long ago......a year maybe. I'm glad you explained your reasoning. BTW. For those wo are on an older version of Velocidrone I strongly recommend updating to the newest version. I was wandering why there wasn't any online players anymore, evidently I was a couple versions behind. The difference is night and day. Tickle
hands down. Liftoff vs my pid dump this past week to my rl quad of the same design. its scary damn close. it does feel the same. the only % problem is getting over the simulator vs rl. not worrying about crashing :)
I play with all of these simulators and I came to the same conclusion. Thank you for sharing your settings. Thanks also to Ashley from the velocidrone FB page and YT channel, which offers its expertise and help to Velocidrone users. You did not mention "Rotor Rush" which is my second best FPV simulator (I think you tried it when you met Tom Smith in England)
I'm flying your kwad in the sim and I'm sucking at it! But no worries, pratice practice.. Will be a while before my parts come in to build my first 5" anyway. I will get some stick time in and try to get a great head start
It is super nice to have such knowledge imparted so simply. Now I can finally buy, download and play Velocidrone without having to worry about spending hours setting it up. This is huge man. Many many many thanks... and when we gonna see some more Steele PPG? Later.
This was super helpful. Sims took me from zip to a fully acrobatic 3D pilot on the fixed wing side of things. I then went out and bought a 3D foamie and never looked back - with ZERO trainer plane time, etc. SIMS are the way to go in my opinion. So, working on FPV now (though I have a few quads already LOL) I've been anxious to try sims to see how much they help. My experience has been the same as yours - the sims just weren't that great (3-4 years ago). I just tried them all again a few weeks ago - and once again was disappointed. I'd not heard of the one you recommended though, so will give that a shot. THANK YOU! :-)
Sim helped me learnt some flips tricks. Had no problem performing them first try in the real drone. It does not need to be 120% accurate. It is very valuable to get the skills and knowledge from sim first. Better than try to learn to do roll in real life and completely destroyed the drone. It's your choice.
at 52% brainpower I was sold as soon as you said there was something that flew like yours! I imagine their sales blossomed after this vid ;) Thanks for everything man, you've been an inspiration for years :)
stoked to hear you are pushing to put out more content! As for suggestions, if you were so inclined, I'd actually lie to watch a walk-thru or tutorial on video editing. Using whatever video editor you use. Personally the gap from an entry level program like GoPro Studio to something like Premier or Final Cut seems huge & video editing can already be so time consuming. Backup suggestion: full blown ghost videos & full tuck pigeons, no more FPV. Cheers
Liftoff is more about racing in multiplayer. If we all have similar setup its about the fastest time like in real life where we have rules. Its another thing making the sim feel like one of your quads.
Steele, Thanks for this video I was just looking into which one to try out and your points are very valid. I think they all have there place but I am and or was looking for a simulator that can give me that ability to take what I am learning and the muscle memory and transfer it more 1 for 1 to a real quad.
Hi, Of course, this is just my opinion: Personally, I chose DRL. It was the only simulator I liked. I started from scratch but of course in acro from 300 deg / s for 400, 600, 800, and up to 1200 deg / s. (about) After 90 hours spent in DRL I decided to check how it looks in Velocidrone on your settings. Let's just say one thing: the free Velocidrone version (trial) is scrap for usability - only on the full version it can be used. But to the point. On your settings fly perfectly for me (I have no experience in flying a real drone). Considering the above, it can be concluded that DRL is very similar to Velocidrone. Despite the most important differences for me: - many things can not be configured in DRL - in the Velocidrone you can feel the gravity more clearly and you have to work harder (throttle) during the maneuvers - in Velocidrone maps are hopeless for freestyle (I noticed elements borrowed from DRL - eg: building, forklift) Assuming that your configuration reflects the real behavior of the drone in the real world, we can conclude that DRL is also a good simulator, because flying on your settings in Velocdrone was a pleasure for me. I wish I could set the settings in DRL as you in Velocidrone. btw. you do a great job - thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I liked your older videos but I always felt that You act cocky, but since You left rotor riot I had to say that quality of your videos and your presentation of yourself has increased to the point when I m really looking forward to see your videos and commentary. Keep up the great work man.
Wow, thank you so much! I've been trying for so long to get rid of this flying on the moon feeling in VD, now with your settings this finally feels almost like my real kwads. I sure owe you something :)
Thanks for this, this helps give me a baseline for what a well tuned quad can / should feel like so I can translate this to the real thing without smashing it trying. You fly the real thing amazing and I always wondered if it is just me or do you have this crazy tuning trick that makes it fly point and go..... no it's just my lack of skill. But now I know what I need to do..... It's the cornering that gets me.
Velocidrone feels way overpowered in default setting for me but as Steele correct said it is the easiest sim setting up your quad and that's what I liked in this sim. And the other thing I love in vel better then other sims is it has the fastest loading times. Multiplayer.. click and play.. singleplayer .. change track.. chat.. close open..... In my opinion if it had the graphics of drl and if they would upgrade a bit the LoS game it would be perfect.
Could you talk more about Kiss V2 and new escs? Particularly about the different feel compared to BetaFlight and RaceFlight. Would also be cool to see some flying within the sim and what kind of things you practice
Thanks for your thoughts dude. I tried Liftoff and felt it lacked. Like I couldn't get a feel for the flight and its gravity was about 50%. FreeRider did a better job for getting me acclimated to how a quad feels. Get well!
Really appreciated this video which prove you know what you're speaking about! I so agree with you about what is the best fpv quad simulator. Shame you made it only now because I had to test all of them! I finally bought velocidrone because it was really the one with the closer feeling with my real quad. With some tunes hotprops was not bad neither but still in state of draft! I was very desappointed by liftoff I requested refound after 30 min, felt I was playing to Wipeout but not a quad sim! Happy you showed adjustment to make it perfect, agreed as well that quad are overpowered! Great video of most impressive fpv pilot ever! Thanks
Def a difference between a game and a simulator, I've tried a few and liftoff was on my list, but I've snagged Velocidrone to try out. Thanks for the info ^.^
Im just a beginner but I use rotor rush and velocidrone, I prefer velocidrone for freestyle and rotor rush for racing but as i much prefer freestyle I use velocidrone now also when your computer is gash, velocidrone runs a lot better
I agree with you on most of this. But and it’s a big but, the hanger map on Liftoff is the most realistic feeling of any simulator. I do t know why but that one map I can get to feel like my kiss flies. And why did Velocidrone feel the need to add “bobble” to high throttle stick input??? Doesn’t happen if you set stick end points correctly in real life. Feel better, just went thru all the flu hell
I heard that Velocidrone are introducing a new full tuck pigeon frame that you can launch from a cannon, into a water melon...might just be BS... Nice you see so much regular content Steele. Would be cool if you announce a time and date you'll be on the sim and see if you can just crash the internet.
i could Kiss you right now you legend..i just got this sim a few hours ago and was getting frustrated farting around with settings trying to get it to feel right and BOOM! i see this upload...stealing your velocidrone pids saved me so much time bro, i owe you! hope your feeling better soon
That's always my feelings too. Velocidrone is the best when it comes to simulat a real Quad. I also have owned Liftoff, it's a good game but never so close to my real quad..!! Nice Video!
I have to say I prefer the physics in DRL to Velocidrone ,and they seem to have done a lot more real world physics comparison than Velocidrone ,even checking inputs vs real life in motion capture..both are good but I can't get velicidrone to feel anything like my Quads IRL whereas DRL is fairly close.
I bought this sim because of this video. I've been flying in attitude mode so this is really messing with me. Thanks for the review and the tuning parameters -- So I know I'm flying something that behaves like something should in real life.
for me liftoff-fpv-simulator is very intresting, can customer everything every pieces can find in the market and try many different drone. vision as with the Fatshark
My friend races and he told me the top racers use velocidrone. He also said you can practice on the same track before you race the real track using velocidrone. The top racers use velocidrone to race for money and practice before a real race.
I know there is a shit ton of comments but I would like to see a video where you go through how you set up your Taranis with the idle up switch and what switches you use and all of your Taranis settings if you where setting one up out of the box. I have the mr Steele edition and have it setup decent but not the best and am kinda lost on the idle up part. Thanks in advance if you do cover this topic
I just got liftoff. It's ok. Lots of quads to choose from.. Biggest drawback, flying area. Seems like you get 100ft away from starting point, it resets the scene like you wrecked. So much to explore, so little ability to actually go explore it. Still worth $20.
ooh thank you for reminding me of gta5 and drones (have never thought of that combo), I downloaded the mod yesterday, and I couldn't stand up from the game for 3 hours, so I guess I'm going back to play now
I used velocidrone for a week using the settings you provided in another video. Crashed many, many times. Just went full fpv for the first time today, and it is easier than the Sim for me.
Thank you sir for your help and information.
Thankyou sir for the support of our product. We are very dedicated to it being a true simulation and I'm glad you noticed our commitment to this.
We don't currently let you assign the camera for this but it would not be difficult to add this - we have just not had any requests for this at all
pressing S will also give you spectator cams and in the next release you can place these camera via the track editor wherever you want them
Now I want to jump in and try it!
I'm with Steele. I've tried quite a few and Velocidrone has come out on top for me.
I have a Tinyhawk 2 also and I can tell you that a tiny quad is much harder to learn on than a 4 or 5 inch quad. The response time is way faster than a mini quad but if you can eventually master it, you won't have any problems flying a 5" quad.
graywoulf Thank you for the encouragement. I was afraid it would be the other way around, so I appreciate the perspective.
No fewer words can be used to get this and many other points across. Since meeting you Steele (really feels like weave met) with sobriety, COG, and General Physics, my life has and will be forever changed for the better. You and many of your acquaintances, have shown me sturdy ladder and foundation to grow and flourish.
Talking about simulators, I really like hotprops, the physic is really close to what I fly in the real world.
I agree fully with Mr Steele, all others feel like just games where Velocidrone is a simulator. There are so many things that would have to be identical to your quad to make it the same as real life but in the end Velocidrone is 90-95% in the ball park.
I went from velocidrone to the real thing and was able to fly great
That's what I wanted to hear, that is useful info. Thank you then I'll go for VelociDrone.
How long did u play on sim
Liftoff is the best for me the rest of them come close though
Perfect timing. Just bought velocidrone yesterday after hearing you guys talk about it on your podcast (yes I listen all the way through. the more random the better!) and I was trying to figure out good rates/pids. so thanks for sharing and feel better.
Gotta give it to my boy Mr Steele... this man has some good content all around
That was by far the best description of a simulator ever, sick vid bro🤙
Thanks a bunch! I too have no interest in playing games. I am new to the hobby and want to practice and your help with the simulator is getting me up and running quicker.
Thanks for your viewpoint! Hope you get to feeling better fast!
Simulator is the best way to learn stuff for sure. I learn flip in simulator first and tried the real deal and no problem first try. Tips in real life, leaves can actually hurt your real drone which most sim treat them like their fin air.

I have tried FPV Freerider , Hotprops , and DRL . They are decent but I have settled in with Velocidrone ; my 'go to ' Sim .
Just tried this settings and they really make a difference. Thanks Steele
I don't much like you, but your settings, with my rates, actually made this sim so so good. Thanks
Glad you got something out of me
Hey there Mr Steele, do you have an update on this now that some time has passed and the different sims have been working on their physics?
agreed dude, i think velocidrone does the best job,its definitely helped me to try new thing without trashin shit, i just popped a couplee bucks on the patreon too support and i just finished off my Mr Steele Alien build today, first flight tomorrow, cant wait , kiora from New Zealand bruv

learned acro with fpv freerider on my phone and my x9D. first acro flight I burned 7 packs and had a blast.

You did not mention "Rotor Rush" which is my second best FPV simulator (I think you tried it when you met Tom Smith in England)
Keep doing it Steele!
Velocidrone to work on tweak settings for Steele's brain! You can now raise it above 52 % ! !
I'm flying your kwad in the sim and I'm sucking at it! But no worries, pratice practice.. Will be a while before my parts come in to build my first 5" anyway. I will get some stick time in and try to get a great head start
Very reasonable advice for beginners - I can tell after a year of fun in this hobby ..
oh this is what locked in means... been flying for long and never had this locked feel with my quad IRL.. Thanks Steel!!

I just got the new Mr.steele taranis x9d plus from getfpv and am now going to use Velciodrone !
Liftoff is more about racing in multiplayer. If we all have similar setup its about the fastest time like in real life where we have rules. Its another thing making the sim feel like one of your quads.

Hi,
Of course, this is just my opinion:
Personally, I chose DRL. It was the only simulator I liked.
I started from scratch but of course in acro from 300 deg / s for 400, 600, 800, and up to 1200 deg / s. (about)
After 90 hours spent in DRL I decided to check how it looks in Velocidrone on your settings.

Been waiting for this video. Thanks
Wow, thank you so much! I've been trying for so long to get rid of this flying on the moon feeling in VD, now with your settings this finally feels almost like my real kwads. I sure owe you something :)
Awsome explanation. N it's a real thing the difference between a game n a sim.
Liftoff feels floaty. Velocidrone feels funny to me at low throttle. Freerider feels completely inaccurate with a huge dead zone at center stick.
You can simply turn dead zone off in the main menu.
It doesn't work. There is still a huge dead zone.
There must be something else that it causing it on your setup then, Freerider doesn't add any deadzone at all when it's turned off.
Idk it only happens with Freerider
Good shit. Leggo Steele!
Could you talk more about Kiss V2 and new escs? Particularly about the different feel compared to BetaFlight and RaceFlight. Would also be cool to see some flying within the sim and what kind of things you practice
Thanks for sharing Steele :) Hope you're feeling better soon!
Steele, Your the man..
Thanks for your thoughts dude. I tried Liftoff and felt it lacked. Like I couldn't get a feel for the flight and its gravity was about 50%. FreeRider did a better job for getting me acclimated to how a quad feels. Get well!
Love your channel! all the way from Jamaica.... it has been really helpful with working towards my launch with FPV here
Really appreciated this video which prove you know what you're speaking about!
Tried a lot of them and I’d agree with ya, V is what I use when I need to refresh skills and don’t want to waste props..lol
Im just a beginner but I use rotor rush and velocidrone, I prefer velocidrone for freestyle and rotor rush for racing but as i much prefer freestyle I use velocidrone now also when your computer is gash, velocidrone runs a lot better
gash?
Thank you Steele.
Holy SH...129K subs...blowin up...Congratulations man. Thanks for the at home chill this is how it is video.
Thanks Mr Steele! this was really helpful. Can't wait for more videos like these.
Those rates would feel terrible for racing in my opinion. Way too fast. Holler up if you see me on Velocidrone. Good choice! :)
That's always my feelings too. Velocidrone is the best when it comes to simulat a real Quad. I also have owned Liftoff, it's a good game but never so close to my real quad..!! Nice Video!
Still running that old FPV Freerider coz this is the only one that my computer can work without crashing :')
That whoop is rad , virtual pids now I have see it all
Thank you for this video!😁 Using simulators has saved me a lot of money! Your input has help me decide on what I should use for myself.
Hey Steele,
Great video thank you for making it easier to chose a sim. No blah blah just your straight and honest opinion. Thumbs up as always!
I bought this sim because of this video. I've been flying in attitude mode so this is really messing with me. Thanks for the review and the tuning parameters -- So I know I'm flying something that behaves like something should in real life.
Great info Steele! Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge. I'm finding it extremely beneficial in my FPV journey.
for me liftoff-fpv-simulator is very intresting, can customer everything every pieces can find in the market and try many different drone. vision as with the Fatshark
My friend races and he told me the top racers use velocidrone. He also said you can practice on the same track before you race the real track using velocidrone. The top racers use velocidrone to race for money and practice before a real race.
Man, those sweet sweet cushions are bad ass!
Thats true! Velo 4 life!
Have you checked out Liftoff? The graphics are much better and you can build your own drones on a workbench. Had tons of fun with it so far
Love seeing you posting more man!
I just got liftoff. It's ok. Lots of quads to choose from.. Biggest drawback, flying area. Seems like you get 100ft away from starting point, it resets the scene like you wrecked. So much to explore, so little ability to actually go explore it.
Still worth $20.
Thanks for this, Mr. Davis.
Hello Mr Steele. You are the one who catch me and drag to this hobby. Thanks for IT!
And the second thing. What battery you currently using?
Glad I could help out man :). Currently the thunderpower 1300 4S 100C adrenaline series.
there is a very very detailed list of all his gear in the descriptions :D
Thanks Steele!
Really a subaru cup damn u got the scooby flu, good video for sim guys
Good stuff man. Hope you feel better soon!
It is time for mr Steele simulator
Yes fam keep up the uploads
Good stuff keep on keeping on!
ooh thank you for reminding me of gta5 and drones (have never thought of that combo), I downloaded the mod yesterday, and I couldn't stand up from the game for 3 hours, so I guess I'm going back to play now
