Great informative video! One that all should watch before buying a new motorhome.
We've just got an Avantgarde 400 (2003) and I have been checking through the water system. There are 3 pipes on the tank, one for the drain, one which I presume is for water to the boiler and a third. Is this an overflow if the tank is overfilled? I filled the tank today and had water coming out of the bottom of the van, would this have come from the overflow?
If you filled up and had water coming straight out the bottom of the van that's a good sign that you have done the right thing and left the drain open! Just check which this was from e.g. the boiler and then check you have done the same for the waste and fresh water drain off's. also leaving all your taps open inside the van inc shower. Also we recommend laying the shower head in shower tray if possible as good ld gravity will help the water come out. The Boiler is always the main concern in terms of draining as its the most common costly fix we see following a frost. Hope this helps and you can enjoy many amazing holidays in your compass motorhome!
Very Helpful - just exploring my first camper - yesterday I managed the toilet which was not as bad as I thought so this will be a doddle - I hope
Tiny steps Trev
Great video - not sure if anyone else spotted your colleague at 0:06 flicking the Vs from inside the van - boys will be boys hahaha

@@TheMotorhomeMan hi boss I wonder if you could help sort out a leak. When I'm draining water boiler I noticed water leaking from underneath the van. Everything is working only when I try to drain.
Thanks
Good video why with mine when I switch on the taps for hor or cold water it puts it straight out the overflow pipe. Or clear pipe at the top of the heater red t piece looke inside the fitting no valve just straight through. Help much appricated thanks
Well done Jason. I taught you well. 👍👍

Thanks Eric we hope to do more basic tutorials anything you would like to see?
hi on second outing got stuck on grass onsite but managed to get help from others to get out also looking for advise on draining my motorhome down for winter ford transir zafero model
Your Hot water tank is the main thing to drain down then fresh and waste tank and open up all your taps.
Hi I have just got a 98 fiat ducato the control panel is mind bogling. I do not know how to get the water to heat. Any suggestions please love your tutorials
Hi Steve Thanks for the info. We have a Majestic van, the tank is underneath the van with no access from above. There is a drip from the thermostat, will have to remove the tank to rectify? Thanks
Great video thanks 👍
No problem 👍

Excellent video thanks for the phone chat
No problem 👍
Hi Mr Motorhome man,
Very useful video, thanks. We are looking at a Geist Phantom (Mercedes) Motorhome. Do you happen to know where the Water Tank is held for this specific motorhome? Many thanks,
Have you checked underneath,or under the seats? hope that helps 😃
@@TheMotorhomeMan Thanks for your reply. We managed to find it in a sealed unit in the garage!
I’m finding I have to put pump on to get cold through tap on my Warwick Duo. I’m a newby to motorhomes
You have to put the pimp on to get any water through the taps.
Very useful thanks
You are more than welcome.
Hi, we are new to motorhoming and struggle to know how to empty fresh water, some tell us just unplug as you drive away as it’s fresh. Feel uncomfortable with that but as the exit is under the van we can’t add the collapz to direct or to a drain and never yet found a site where we can position over a drain. Any advice? Thanks.
Hi Caroline ive done some videos on this,or you could google it. thanks for watching 😀
Very useful video. The tap on my waste water pipe had seized so I've cut it off and clipped the pipe back underneath. Does it need a tap on the end? I also find I can't empty waste water easily until I'm over a drain as there's not much height between the bottom of the tank and the road. One last question - I fill the water tank with a hose through the window as the inlet leaks like hell. I've seen lots of people with aquarolls etc but can't work out why they are a good idea as I can't think how I would get water out of the aquaroll and into the tank. Advice please!
Yes you need a tap,12 volt pump but I would repair the inlet
@@TheMotorhomeMan thanks for the advice. It's fixed! But the tap I ordered for the end of the waste pipe was the wrong size. So annoying.
Hi my name is Tom I am doing my own campervan I am installing my truma water heater I am not going to connect to the gas but only use electric do I have to put a vent in for that thanks
Only gas
@@TheMotorhomeMan thanks
My question is how long should the pump run before shutting off? I just got a 34' RV that its running more than a few minutes so not sure if there is an issue or leak. Nicely done. I'd also say add antifreeze in the winter.
It depends how much water you have used it sound a long time Sean.Get in touch interested in your reviews.
Who was that in the window 5 seconds in giving the V sign ?
Hi Steve it was a chap called Steve who does all the buying and selling of Motorhomes he does not like to be left out.
Great video...
Thanks Mark I appreciate the comment.
I hope this isn't a stupid question but the water you've used isn't replaced automatically but needs topping up with the hose? So showers in the evening deplete the fresh water supply?!
That is correct Keith 👍
Thanks so much
You're welcome! Dawn
Quick question , when you turn the tap to hot will it not burn the heater element out , i thought u have to fill the heater tank before turning tap to hot
You need to prime your hot water tank first Nick before you switch on
Do you have a video about an old Truma boiler that keeps giving a red light?
Is that when you try it on the Gas Aileen?
Hi firstly great videos, every time I turn my water pump on the truma heater puts water down the overflow so I’m constantly losing water, any ideas? I’ve just recently fitted a new water pump but it’s exactly the same as the one that broke
It sounds like a drain valve is open.
The Motorhome Man It’s a Truma system, the water is flowing out of a clear pipe next to the red hot water one, doesn’t seem to have a valve on it to open/close. I can’t put a picture on here to show it
Quick question..if the hot water tank is drained how do you refill it before heating ? I guess you run the pump to prime the taps and then switch the heater on ?
You answered your own question Gary 😀
@@TheMotorhomeMan thanks bud.
Hi,I have a auto trail, water pump is going on but no water is not coming true and tank is full ,it's like air come true
See if you are getting water coming through the pump
@@TheMotorhomeMan no water come true
Will the hot water stay hot even if your not running any off? Our heater heats up the water (gas only) but after going to bed the water is no longer hot in the morning?
No it will have gone cold by then.
Hi Mr Motorhome man,
Great video, very helpful.
My problem is the water pumps out very well ( Hot and cold ) to the kitchen and bathroom shower , toilet etc.
But for some reason the bathroom basin is very very slow, takes an age to fill basin.
Ive tried all sorts of ways to blow the air through. Ive checked there are no bent pipes , but still comes out at a dribble.
Any ideas would be highly appreciated.
All the best.
Duncan.
Van is a 2014 Elddis Autoquest.
Disconnect the tap to see what the flow is like could be filter in tap 👍
@@TheMotorhomeMan Thanks for the tip, much appreciated 👍🏻
Do you have any info on Knaus 650 (2015). I only get water into the toilet. Cold water tank is full. Micro switches do appear to work though the pump is only heard when toilet button is pressed. Knaus have not responded to my emails..not a good advert.
It could be the pump Terry
Tried filling our fresh water tank but realised that the water was just pouring out of the underneath. The water gauge was constantly showing 50%. There is an external plastic tap presumably to empty the fresh water tank which is showing closed. There's also a yellow valve near the boiler also showing closed. There's wet all around the pump. The cold and hot water will not prime. Have we got a problem? The vehicle has just had a service. What's gone wrong?
You do have a problem David I would get in touch with who ever serviced it.
@@TheMotorhomeMan
The company which sold it to us collected it this morning, we've given them a list of faults so hopefully they will fix it. We hadn't been given a V5 so couldn't tax it. They've got a 100 mile journey, didn't see them put any trade plates on, hope they get back ok. Thanks for the reply. This was our first motorhome so we're always viewing any videos and mainly because the manuals are all missing. Please try to remind people to leave the manuals in the vehicle as they are very difficult to replace.
Have you got a website?
yes mike www.caravansandcampersltd.co.uk/
Where is the security valve? It frozen last night, so dropped out all the watter.
It should be a red button by the water heater Dani
Hi
Is there a fail safe to stop you heating the Trauma water heater on gas if it has no water in it?
Thx
Do not think so
Missed an edit there, 2:42 "shit" LOL :D
