Thank you so much for this. My husband has spent ages trying to work out why the fire wasn’t working on gas. Who would have thought it was as simple as a battery!
3 years later! And your video is still helping many many people!!! Unbelievable after 2 nights freezing i come across this video and it was just a battery!!!!
I have used your video twice when I have had problems with my gas fire and both times you have identified the problem I have. Brilliant thank you very much.
Found this video after a panic with my heater failing, was going to take it to a garage but after seeing this, Bingo we have heat again Thank you very much for the useful information.
thank you so much for this video. Our trumaheater just started to give issues on gas, exactly how you describe it. And it is cold where I am, only 2 degrees celcius! Your video saved us, it was the battery.
Ideal, panicked when the radiator wasn't working, very happy to see this was just a simple dead battery. It's not even taken 5 minutes, although getting the cover back on was a little fiddly! Thank you!!
Superb video , really helpful , thankyou . My local dealer is so busy they arent accepting any customers ! Wont supply any parts from Europe. They basically dont want to get involved , so will have to try and solve it myself with the help of these videos. Many many thanks.
I had to do this more than seven years ago and it took me ages. I thought it ridiculous that I had to take the front of to change the battery, I did not realise that it was so easy!
You are a life saver. I was about take the whole caravan to the service across town. This is the kind of knowledge that is buried deep in the manual. A manual that you no longer have :D
Thank you very much for this super helpful tutorial video, I managed to get my heater working (changed the ignition battery - who knew?) which means we can head up to Scotland for Christmas!! Thank you MotorhomeMan!
Excellent video, had read about this battery in the autotrail book when we bought the van, but had forgotten! Good to see how toe remove tne surround and even better to see that you can replace the battery when the surround is still in place.😉
I’m on a Motorhome friendly car park in Fleetwood (24 hrs for£5) came to light the heating on gas, nothing!! A quick watch of your excellent video, battery changed and now warm as toast Many thanks for this very helpful short video 👍🏼
You're a gem, mate, and a clear demonstrator, thanks. Jan 21 here (NZ) now and the grand-solar-minimum has started and my auto gas heater has the tutties!
Thanks for the video! I had another problem: the ignitor was working but I couldn't turn the knob. The rod was buckled because someone probably pushed it too hard. When opening the lid I could see that the rod is colliding in the housing when trying to turn. I took pliers and carefully bent it to be straight(ish) again. Now it's working! Thanks for explaining so well about the assembly and mechanics, it helped a lot!
Thank you so much for these videos we are sat here in the not so very warm North of England and I have tried to light my fire and you are my go to guy for tips on how to do things, I am now nice and warm fortunately it was only my battery.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂
Thank you for the tip on how to change the battery. My wife and I are on vacation in Austria, and it has been about 5-6 degrees in the night. And the heater didn’t work ☹️. I just changed the battery by opening the box at the bottom and now the heater is working🤗
Great video, very well explained.Keep em coming. (Minor point at 3:46 & 4.04 you call the cable 12v power supply. On my unit there is no 12volts, it is just a pair of switch wires that activate the ignition unit)
The igniter unit has no 12V power supply. It is a micro-switch to switch the auto-igniter unit on when the gas switch is rotated. If you want to check that's OK, just do a continuity test, which should activate when you press down, and slighlty rotate the gas fire know to ignite the fire. The igniter is powered by the 1.5V battery, hence why many people have the issues they do. The only 12V supply on this video is the TEB blower switch shown earlier when removing the fire surround.
Many thanks for this video! My Trumatic gas heater in my MH ignites (ticking noise) but no pilot flame, even after turning the knob. There’s a brand new gas bottle in but still no heating. Cold nights. Any advice is much appreciated 🙏🏾
thank you very much , for detailed explanation.. I have same problem , but I am not sure this is the solution. Is there another way to understand the problem which is related to ignition box?
I changed the battery but not hearing any ignition. Before I order a new ignition box. Should I smell gas during this process of attempting to ignite as I can’t hear or smell anything. Will the ignition not work if there is no gas fees. Not sure if there is an isolator I’m missing somewhere
Hello, I have an older caravan with a similar stove. The problem is that I can light the flame by pressing the button down, but when I release it or try to move it, it goes out. Could you help me figure out what's going on?
Hi have the 3002s I'm getting a spark by pushing down on the ignitor but the pilot light is not staying on it ignites and goes out normally I use it off electric and never used this side of the system what can be the problem gas is ok as I tested the cooker and checked the valves are open thanks tom
That was awesome, thank you so much. I am new to all this caravan stuff. I've got a Swift Challenger 580 way down her in New Zealand So lots of learning and your visual education was the best!
Can we be sure its the ignitor and not something else like the electrode ?, I'd like to be sure because that little black box is a hundred quid. Cheers
@@TheMotorhomeMan would you be saying that having a 12volt system in the caravan is essential for the operation of the gas powered heating and the having 230v is not enough . regards
Thanks for a really useful video. I would never have had the courage to just yank the front off without knowing how it fitted. Can you do a video on servicing the fridge as well? Or is that too technical? Is there a battery in that as well? My son's MH Dometic fridge, RM4271, electronic ignition, same as mine, stopped working and a habitation expert fitted a new jet. Is that easy to do?
Hi wondering if you could help me my heater works fine on the gas , my problem is there’s no heat on when I switch to electric. Put the switch’s on the wall they light up blower on the fire works but no heat?
Hello just seen ur video on the Truma heater not working. The link to where u got the new ignition box is not working. Where could we get one. We are in Ireland
Thanks you saved me a lot of mither ended up just being the aa battery 👍 keep up the sterling work you middle aged men of RUclips cos without you we wouldn’t have a clue 😂🥳
Hi. I have a 1988 Fiat Ducato with a ( I think goosed auto igniter) New batteries ( checked) but nothing. Mines has two AA 1.5v batteries, and the only ones I can see online only have one. Will they work the same? Or can the twin battery unit still be bought? Don't want to just purchase as they are £80 + and an expensive mistake if they do not suit. Thanks for the video and information on this.
Hi I have a double burner trumatic gas heater, the problem is the battery is fine but when I light it up the flame does not roar and it very low and yellow orange then after 5 minutes it cuts out
Hi Iv the same heater the problem I’m having is it’s igniting but when I release the knob it flickers then goes out and the ticking starts again if I press the nob down it reignites but again once I lift it, it flickers and spits then goes out again if I do this process 5-10 times eventually it will light as it should, and work perfectly, any ideas what’s wrong ?? I notice the small bar within the window that glows red, while this is happening seems to turn from red to normal in seconds of releasing the gas nob
@@TheMotorhomeMan I've fixed our old truma and it works great. I did notice tonight though that it seems to slowly turn lower and I have to turn the knob again. Any idea what it could mean? Thanks!
The small plug is not a 12v supply its connected to the micro switch on the gas valve and completes the circuit for the AA battery when the control is operated

(Minor point at 3:46 & 4.04 you call the cable 12v power supply. On my unit there is no 12volts, it is just a pair of switch wires that activate the ignition unit)
There should be 12 volts Barry
He says that that is for blowing air. My fan dial is located to the side of the heater and not on it so I assume that's why I don't have one either.
