  • We received our first snowfall this year. Fired up the woodstove and staying cozy in our log cabin. Taking care of the chickens in the snow - feeling a little rusty at it but it will come back! We cut and split more firewood for next season too. Thanks so much for watching!~Shane and Lindsey Krumrie

    It's nice to see you splitting by hand. I do the same. It's much more enjoyable than having a noisy, stinky machine in my face. I'm surprised that you're going through a maul handle so often though. Mine must be a beast. It's gone through about 20 cords of oak and ash. Even though the area just below the head is worn away by 30%, it still has never cracked or loosened. Anyway, great video.

    when the handle starts to come loose on your splitting maul, stand it in water and soak it, the handle will expand....also, some of your smaller blocks of firewood, don't split them, leave them whole, they'll burn longer in your wood stove without you needing to fill it as often, especially before going to bed! Enjoying your beautiful little homestead. God Bless, stay Safe and all the best from northwestern BC Canada❤

      Thanks for your suggestions... it's always nice when the woodstove lasts a little longer through the night. It's a rough adjustment getting into the routine of stoking the woodstove in the middle of the night again! Thanks for your kind words. Have a great night and thanks for watching!

    Awesome snow...did any maintenance on that old dilapidated trailer? Be nice to each other, you both have different strengths and talents. She will get stronger as time goes on, definitelyget some gumptionand whak him upsidethe head with a cast iron. Its beautiful there in Wisconsin. Yall kill any animals or cook much, no inside water, how deep does water flow? Good show, i like it, just keep recording. Oh you could weld some hanging structures in the barns and get most of that stuff off the ground. Sorry, trying to be helpful...

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  10 месяцев назад +1

      The snow is so beautiful - I can't wait to get another round! We are starting to have some nice frost build up on the trees in the morning which shines in the sun and also is so nice. That trailer is always a bugger as it's challenging to grease because of the way it's built. This is why Shane does the chores that takes the muscles, lol! Shane goes hunting and we'll hopefully have a deer soon to process. We cook a lot! I plan to show more cooking now that the outside gardening has slowed down. You're right, no inside water... we just have the hand pump well. The well is 80 feet deep. We still view the hoop shed as a temporary storage place until we can build a garage or shop - so pallets are working for now to keep the things off the ground, but yes getting a more permanent structure to keep things up would be a nice upgrade in the future. Love hearing you like the videos, great feedback, appreciate it! Hope you have a good day.

    Do you know every spring after all the snow is gone and you don’t use the woodstove as much you need to clean out the whole pipe from the woodstove to the top of the house to get all the Clearasil out of the pipe so you’ll be ready for next year, one blockage and you’ll burn your home to the ground Maybe you didn’t know that but I’m just giving you a heads up.

    This reminds me of the 40A. I had 13 north of Tomahawk on Swamp Lake Road. It had 300 feet river frontage and 1900 feet lake frontage. Too difficult to manage from my home in Colorado after my Dad passed. It was sold to a Realtor and was divided and sold a few more times. Great memories of "UP NORTH!" By the way, "UP NORTH" was anything north of Highway 64 and determined and named by the "old timers" in the area south of Highway 64. Darn solar panes should have heating grids, but that would take electricity and defeat the purpose. Maybe they should just go to vertical when the Sun isn't shining or it is snowing? Stay warm and healthy. The quiet time in the woods during a snowfall is restful.

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comment... Sounds like you had a really great piece of property near Tomahawk. Colorado sounds very nice too! Interesting to learn about the Up North part by the old timers. I'm just so glad that we decided to ground mount the solar panels instead of installing them on the roof. We had so much snow last year that we would have been constantly having to climb on the room to remove the snow! Thanks for watching!

    Maybe if you’re oiled your back gate I’m not trailer. Every joint has to have me off boils on everything you own. If it has a joint that moves it needs to be oiled spray oil grease something so it works in the cold weather otherwise it will never move and you and your wife call me struggling bad think about it.

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  10 месяцев назад

      Ah, I wish I could oil the back gate. That trailer gate won't allow us to oil it because the joint where it pivots is too long and won't allow the oil and grease to penetrate down in. It's okay though, she doesn't get too mad at it. Thanks for your comment! Have a good night!

    I'm 60 years old and I can still split wood from dawn to dusk. And as far as the maple goes that why the splitting wedges was invented. And if you cross stack your wood on each end it will hold the stack and won't fall from the ends.

    • @KrumriesCabin
      @KrumriesCabin  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, we love winter around here. Our well is 80 feet deep and we have a Bison Deep Well Hand Pump... works great and would recommend for sure. We've had it now for 7 years and nothing has went wrong with it. We do have a weep hole drilled below the frost line so that the water drains and it doesn't freeze up in the winter. Thanks for commenting. Take care!

    I’m new to your channel. How many acres do you have and what part of Wisconsin? I love the forest not too thin and not to thick 🌲 🌲 How much snow on average do you get there?

      Glad you found our channel! We live in the northwestern part of Wisconsin by Lake Superior. I love the forest here too - it's one of my favorite parts, along with the lakes!! We get quite a bit of snow here - last year we had about 4 feet of snowpack on our property... we get a lake affect snow happening here living close to the south shore of Lake Superior in the snowbelt. Last year was a high snowpack year - I would say on average we have a couple feet in our yard. Thanks for commenting! Hope you have a good day.

    Can you use your icon or Epic Pass there to go skiing?

      We've never had an Ikon or Epic Pass - we used to have season passes to Bridger Bowl in Montana and went all the time. That was so awesome! Now we just go once in a while in Minnesota.

      Just a woodstove, but it's nice to have those longer pieces. Have a good evening!
