I left Michigan a little over 25 years ago for Texas. When I saw the area over the wheel wells of your truck, it reminded me of one of the downsides of living in the Rust Belt. But, there are things about Michigan I miss, like the four seasons: June, July, August and Winter.
Brings back memories of when i lived in Michigan. When it snowed it snowed. It was awesome to see nothing frozen when you got back to the cabin. Glad you were able to find a deal so you could seal in the sides of the mud room. Excited to see that happen
Windshield washer fluid in a spray bottle will do wonders for your solar panels, You wont risk scratching them or breaking them. Once the snow gets saturated it just slides off and as the panels warm up the snow just slides off on its own.
I love seeing the snow thru the window and having the fireplace popping and cracking and that’s all the snow I ever want, I don’t sky or play in the snow it’s just to cold for me, it hurts my bones and skin, I almost got frostbite as a child where everyone else was having fun it was only pain for me,, please stay safe and warm
Jay all that hard work you put in the skirting is paying off.Good job..Windows an screen ,hello a deal .Temporarily stand some of the screens around the mudroom to help the snow out.SEMPER FI
Thanks bud, I was pretty happy to find them, and the price was right 😊 . I was surprised to not see snow in your last video I watched......but it is coming soon I'm sure.
Uh-oh!! It's all your fault, you just put my creative ideas into overdrive, with the vinyl windows. Ha ha!! What you don't use for the Mudd room, maybe make a small greenhouse to grow winter garden. Or.. close in part of the open deck on the side of your house to make a sunroom/ greenhouse with a door to access from inside the cabin?? If, I was 20 years younger I would love doing something like that. Lol..I would be an awesome supervisor though. 😊 Love you guys❤ stay safe out there.
Can't wait to see what you have planned for the plastic window "screens". That mud room looked more like a snow room. 😂 Niceto see the cabin maintained just above or at freezing while you were away. I bet Jen was thrilled the wood by the pole barn stayed snow free this time. Cabin looks so cozy and I loved the entro with music driving through the snow. Great editing.
Holy moly winter hit quick and hard! It's beautiful. But, it's so cold. Luckily, you made very good progress winterizing the property. All your hard work is paying off. That's an incredible deal you picked up on. I'm very happy to be home in NOLA after 2 days of traveling. I'm getting my apartment sorted out after 3 months of being in the UK. All the best, my friends. Puck.
Yep, west side od State got hammered... Got two inches in the middle of the LP- dang cold though. Great no water freeze - incredible in fact I'm going through much the same as you are. Best to you & Jen
Not enough windows for a greenhouse but excellent to make a cold frame for early spring seedlings! Another good find. And another build project for Jay!😉
With warmer weather you might want to consider outside channels to put your lets call them storm windows to your mud room. That way the snow will slid off in the winter and not get trapped and and create a visibility problem and water rot issue in time. Just my thoughts.
My father used to leave a cup of water on the counter to tell the temperature. He took great pleasure in the basics of heat and water, even though he had digital thermometers, and modern technology. Ironically, he could have just turned on electric baseboard heaters - but he was cheap and didn’t like to pay for electricity. This routine of visiting the cabin in the winter was repeated over-and-over. I never doubted the enjoyment he felt from sitting in his cabin in the woods in winter, even though it had no purpose. A few years after he died, I convinced my mom to sell the cabin, which she did. I wonder if anybody sits in the cabin now in the winter?
Hello Jay, great bargain hunting again! You said almost free so I’ll guess $50. Wow, there seems to be no in between, no snow then lots of snow! I know it’s hard work and all, but gee it’s pretty. Glad the skirting and insulation are working well for you. Can’t wait to see what you do with the mud room. We’ve got a 38c (100.4f) tomorrow! Cheers 👍🏻🇦🇺
Hey, how are you two doing. I just wanted to say welcome back to winter . I just hope we don't get to much snow just year. Anyway stay warm and safe and sound and take care 😊
About a mile off the plowed road. We drive here until we can't, then we park at my buddy John's and ride snow machines in. I don't have a plow truck or tractor to plow yet
One of your best videos for a guy who lives in Tennessee, however wouldn't wanna be ya... 🤔 You said was a deal so I will say a hundred for all the screens and stuff. Your opening drive thru the snow with the tire shots was beautiful, and no boss lady around to tell you how it should be done... 🤣 And the flag still flies in the breeze.
Your cabin is dope! I just can’t do broken down vehicles and stuff around I want minimal but the actual cabin is cozy and perfect! Leave the world behind! Maybe some cowboy tubs or a jacuzzi in a cabana. Or better yet a sauna!
It could be cool if you checked into a "wind sock". If placed in the open, you can learn to read it and the wind direction.. I think when it is (lets say) at 45% the wind is 25 mph .. and of course the opening points to where the wind is coming from ... not high tech but air plane pilots use them as they are very reliable. .. I may look to this too.
For sure.. I noticed your flag blowing straight out and that reminded me. The real wind sock type at air ports is what I am going to look into. the azmn types are bogus.. there is quite a difference. It should he fun. We got just over 4" rain in just over a day... and gusts up to 17 ... seen higher here.@@yorotirb3941
Id find a piece of chain link wire fence and make a drag and pull behind a vehicle snowmobile or pickup not as good as a plow but as long as you disturb the snow it will turn into "crete snow" and be easier to pack when you drive on it looks like youed have a tough time plowing it anyway because of your hilly terrain. Just my two cents
I mounted my Gasland on the wall in the cabin. It only runs when water is flowing and I figure it can’t put out any more carbon monoxide than a propane stove. It’s right above the sink and use the dials to adjust down to cold all the way up to hot. No dual water lines and less to freeze in winter.
The snow really is beautiful! ❄️ We have yet to get ANY snow! Very weird winter so far….This video makes me kind of miss it…But, not the work that comes with it! 😂 🌲
Ha....thanks guys. We totally agree with ya....the snow is beautiful, but we kuch prefer the ease of not having it, lol. Thanks for being here and your support.
Hi folks, Jay I see in some of your videos that you have some Ryobi cordless tools. I can't determine what battery size you have. They gave so many different tools for certain size battery, if yours are capable to operate a cordless leaf blower it would make cleaning the snow off your snowmobile a whole lot faster. Just a quick idea, blows snow off your vehicles also when it's just powder snow.
that's a great idea my friend.....We actually just picked up one of the larger 40 volt blowers a month or so ago......that is a great idea to clear the fluffy stuff. thanks
Coverage of some type would be nice for the mudroom. At the very least it will keep the wind, rain & snow out. BTW -it was clear, sunny & 71 today. I cleaned up the yard, put away the big flower pots, gathered up the hoses, and set out some Poinsettias in the front yard. I appreciate the American flags you have around on the property. USA !!
I bet if you installed one of those Dynaglo radiant propane heaters from the green store in your cabin it would keep everything from freezing even under the cabin since you skirted it. We use one when we leave for the weekend, works great.
Now that we have water and such in the cabin, I might have to consider that. Plus it would make it easier to take the chill off in spring and fall when it's cool, but not cold enough for a fire 😊
I wish it was snowed place here in West Virginia where I live is. We don't have snow no more, no luck. It used to be when we was little. Very little snow that is beautiful. I'd say the price is for the windows, maybe 50 or a 100
I'm not sure to be honest how deep the frost line is. Most my 4x6 treated posts are 36x42 inches deep.....all sand where we are at up here. No heaving to speak of.....knock on wood, lol
If anything cut some clear plastic and put up against those screens tape them do something so at least the snow is not blowing in there it’s gonna be cold, but at least the snow is not coming in and then it’ll be designed for what it’s supposed to do keep the snow out

Wonder if someone makes a clear screen on a roller or clear panels that could be placed over the solar panels that could be easily removed or flipped to dump the snow. 😮❤
The windows was a great deal and look nice but your mudroom isnt 9 ft tall ,how are you gonna make these work?? By laying sdeways ,or will you have to cut and customize/ redo..anyway snows beautiful but in lower michigan weve had a couple days of mixed preception ,about an inch a vcouple times ,but its cold near 40 a couple days now..boy the wind is whipping thete!! Put bounce dryer sheets everywhere on the snowmobile in the fall and the rodents won’t bother it I have done this for years on atvs and it works learned it from a tractor manual

Well, you definitely can't beat the price and will have multiple uses. Glad to see nothing frozen in the cabin..
Brings back memories of when i lived in Michigan.
When it snowed it snowed.
It was awesome to see nothing frozen when you got back to the cabin.
Glad you were able to find a deal so you could seal in the sides of the mud room.

@stevenbenjamin818 we are located in northern Michigan

Nice score on the porch windows! Wow! you guys got hammered with snow!

The snow is so beautiful!
I’m here via Girl in the Woods. Absolutely love the adjustable solar panels!
Cool....welcome. that tracking system is working out very well
Wish we could get some cold weather down here, sure would help our allergies. Be safe.❤❤🐾🐾
Love that ride snow mobles all time

Your comments were my thoughts as well.
A lot of snow there. Great deal with those panels
Really like the guitar music you used at the beginning of this. Beautiful.
Glad to hear it, thanks. Best wishes

This is good stuff mate. Love your work. From an Australian living in Thailand.

Thank you Cindy

Great no water freeze - incredible in fact
I'm going through much the same as you are.
Best to you & Jen
Thanks buddy.....ya it is crazy, the whole drive north there was minimal snow......soon as I got off the freeway it was a mess, lol
Not enough windows for a greenhouse but excellent to make a cold frame for early spring seedlings! Another good find. And another build project for Jay!😉
If the snow is dry you could use a leaf blower for the panels, snow bikes and anything else you want to get the snow off of.
Great idea 😊👍
can't wait until Wednesday.... wootn't miss it
I loved the ride through the woods up to the cabin. It was a bit bumpy, but I loved it. ❤
😊
I’m impressed that snowmobile started and moves!
I'm glad it did too. My life gets a whole lot more difficult if it didn't. Lol
Glad you got it winterized before that buddy !!
I know the snow can be a pain, but it sure is beautiful! Those vinyl windows will do the trick!
Beautiful place you have there
Thank you!

Hi, just seen you on girl in the woods, I’m gonna live vicariously thru you guys ❤
Love it......You're Welcome here anytime. =)
@@OffgridwithJayandJen thank you
Nice fluff snow warm. Beautiful
Ole winter hit really good at the cabin. The snowmobiles are really good to have there we see. Stay safe warm and keep on cleaning snow for now 😂
You should get a wind turbine as well, it sounds like you get plenty of wind there and it isn't usually effected by snow, it also works at night.
To me, they always seem to end up being a noise annoyance.
Nice find on the windows, im sure you will make them work and look good 😊
4/23/24 - You need a shed for your snow mobiles ? Beautiful scenery.
Yes, it is on the long list of needs, lol

There is something special about the simple life and living frugal
Probably should have kept it.
Would a leaf blower get those snowmobiles cleared off quicker &/or the panels? as long as the snow is light & fluffy but not wet & heavy
Beautiful, and peaceful ☺️
Thank you! 🙂
@@OffgridwithJayandJen you’re welcome. I love winter and the calmness it brings to the world. Thank you for sharing your sanctuary.
Cozy cabin, and the view with the sun up in the morning was amazing.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrr! That looks mighty cold.
Just stumbled across this channel. The wife and I are both bush people and Jay and Jen lol. New subscribers now.
That is Awesome......Love it. Welcome my Friends
Lots of snow!! We are getting our first big dump today, gotta go do some snow blowing soon.
Have fun my friend....😊 be safe
would love this place as a personal gift
Yeah nice catch on those screens n Windows. You'll have some sunny days when you can install them! 👌👌👌
Stuned me on this cabin!! Wow I absolutely love it. Room too live to turn around in💖💖💖💖💖💖
Thanks.....we love the size too. We are happy we went with 16x24 rather than 12x24....makes a huge difference in functionality
@@OffgridwithJayandJen , just a perfect cozy size! And easy to keep, clean and tidy when it’s time to leave!

Beautiful view up there. How far off the main road are you and do you plow it all the way up to the cabin in winter? Cheers!
About a mile off the plowed road. We drive here until we can't, then we park at my buddy John's and ride snow machines in. I don't have a plow truck or tractor to plow yet

Jay put a primer on them sled it made your sled start up better
Have you ever tried PAM cooking spray on the solar panals against snow build yupo?
I have not......does it work?
Next on your honey do list is a pole barn for your truck
Your cabin is dope! I just can’t do broken down vehicles and stuff around I want minimal but the actual cabin is cozy and perfect! Leave the world behind! Maybe some cowboy tubs or a jacuzzi in a cabana. Or better yet a sauna!

I like that idea.....I have been trying to find the best tool or strategy....but like you said, the hills make it a hard call for sure
We did that in Alabama for the mud. We attached the fence to two PVC pipes filled with concrete. Laid it smooth.
Tranquil perhaps I would have a door that opened both inwards and outwards on the mudroom. Saw one on a Alaska prepper great when 3ft of snow falls.
Wow. Great video. What brand of Woodstock is yours.
Woodstove? Ours is a hearthstone soapstone stove if that was the question 😁. Appreciate you being here. Best wishes

The size of those windows and screens will most likely not fit the mudroom without reconstruction. Looks like they would enclose the back porch though
I agree with you on your comment LOLOL
So where is your cabin? General area. Can’t be in Waterford that’s too far south. Very nice looking area.
Upper part of lower peninsula
