A great review! One of my biggest issues with the surface laptop 4 is the lack of TB4. Unfortunately- I rely too much on being able to dock my laptop when at home and it kills me that they skipped out on TB4 for this refresh! Hopefully better next year! 😂

You can still connect to a usb c docking station. I have a dell docking station that i hook up to my sl3 or go2... 2 monitors... three with the laptop screen
Is this capable of installing vegas movie studio or photoshop elements? I have them in CD versions so not sure if it'll accept the programs if I get an external dvd player. Would this be a better option for that or would I be better off with a Surface Pro 8 with the i7 and 16gb RAM ? Thanks

heres my view after using the sf3 for 1 year
the Alcantara stood its grounds really well with wear spots from my palm only visible in specific light angles after constant use as a student.
Tho i do a lot of cleaning with rubbing alcohol cuz of my sweaty hands+health concerns
if i were to choose between a metal surface or Alcantara, would always choose the fabric as its really comfy to type on.

bro just an honest opinion. One of the most value for money windows laptop that i found after researching a ton was the asus zenbook duo, with its i7 fantastic display and not to forget 2 DISPLAYS, and its awesome value of around a 1000 dollars i think it will be the best coompetitor against the macbook. Please try to make a video on comparing those 2 laptops
I don't like the Alcantara on the 13 inch laptops. I would only consider getting the metal ones on the 15 inch, but they are all sold out in the UK on the Microsoft store.
I think there are 13 Inch metal versions (black and another color?), though at least in the german microsoft store those only come with intel processors

So i got an offer about a MacBook Pro M1 with 512Gb of storage and its 250.- cheaper then the normal prize. i live in switzerland and there the 512gb version is about 1620$ should i buy the 1350$ one or should i wait for the 14 inch. it hurts a lot to pay around 2k$ for a laptop. And i also need it just for some light gaming and some light video editing and also mostly for productivity work. will you help me for the choice?
In my opinion go for this one. The 14 inch is possible to have the same M1 procesor or will be more expensive

How much Ram does it have? I wouldn’t suggest 8gb for video editing no matter how light it is. The 14 is rumored to have a 1mx so it will probably cost a lot more because of that and screen size.
Does the Apple store ship to your country? If they do then i would check out refurbished prices. I was able to get the MacBook Pro 16gb ram 256gb for cheaper than the base model. Granted i don’t pay vat so that may change things for you.

No thunderbolt = no buy for me. It’s the single most useful port. I have a dock and from a single port I charge connect to monitor and keyboard mouse Ethernet. From full portable to full desktop by connecting one single cable

And you can still do that from the Surface. You don't need thunderbolt for that.

I'm an Engineer student and lots of apps only run on windows. I'm searching for laptops for several months and find out that Mac M1 is currently the best option for the same amount of money. I'm wondering if I buy mac m1 (or most probably wait for 1-2 months for the release of M1X or M2), do you think running a WIN OS on mac is a good idea?
I don't think so, you need to run Windows on Arm, not regular Windows, on M1 based Macs
@@SergioPresents As far as I know, most of the apps can run on Windows on Arm.
@@nurahmedomar maybe, I really don't know about the apps, the real problem is with the drivers, as far as I know... in a pro work, and with a external hardware, it'd be a big problem, but it depends on your needs... I am just saying from my angle of view, and my needs. I am a sound designer, also do a video editing from time to time

Lol keep thinking solely about chip. The galaxy book pro has touch screen, oled screen, tablet functionality, s pen support, akg dolby speakers, rated for the same battery life as m1 and even comes with a much faster charger. Now, ur not using the m1 anywhere near its full potential anyways nor will u use the Intel Evo so I don't get the hype battery is something that is important but idgaf about apples optimizations cuz they have the same duration

The intel variants score higher in both single-core & multi-core tasks, alongside graphite-intensive tests, in some other reviews. Not sure why this video has the results all reverted.

If Microsoft really switch to ARM (with strong processors like Apple) the match will be interesting, as you said, MBA is a killer value for right know, even a better one when Apple will drop a bit the price to keep it next to new devices. In the previous company where I worked, they had for a few years surface laptops that broke after only 1.5 years. The politics in that company was to change the laptops of the employees after 4 years.
The surface laptops were under guarantee when they broke, but the time to get it replaced, they preferred buy something that last and that was possible to repair from IT without sending it back. The hole company switched to Dell workstation laptops ...
imo thinkpads are one of the most durable laptops as well
@@drishalballaney6590 I have an Thinkpad X1 extreme carbon where I work now. I’m impressed by the keyboard and build quality. It’s only a few months though, I don’t know how long it will last.
@@remigoldbach9608 for me I went for a thinkpad P14s AMD. The only real sad part of lenovo is that they take a loong time to deliver laptops(specially the customize to order ones), I am finally getting it after 2 months+ of wait (this week hopefully)

Who thought that putting carpet around the Surface keyboard was a good idea? I'd like to see how clean it is after 6 months as a family laptop...Glad you mentioned the the MacBook Air; unless you have to have Windows then it's clearly a better buy for performance and value. Enjoyed the video.
It gets gross quickly. Every few months I take a credit card and scrape all the dirt and oil off then wipe it down with Alcantara cleaner. It's satisfying to see all the gunk get off but I wish I didn't have to do it.

Amd doesn’t have a thunderbolt license. They will get thunderbolt when it’s just part of the USB standard.

I stopped watching your videos a while ago because I find you very biased. I wanted to give you another chance when I searched for a review of a Surface Laptop 4 and nothing has changed. The fact you end the video with saying the Surface has good design, screen, webcam, speakers, keyboard, trackpad, and performance BUT MacBook Air is better in each one of those categories proves your lack of objectivity. Without even a second thought you paint the entire picture with a wide brush saying MacBook Air is better in every single way which comes off as biased. The Surface has a 3:2 aspect ratio screen that is objectively better for productivity while also adding touch screen functionality which are both lacking in the MBA. The Surface has a webcam that is higher quality. The Surface has a keyboard that is more comfortable to type on (although this is subjective) and finally, the Surface has much better performance on multicore tasks with the Ryzen chip. Please stop being so arrogant. Saying MBA is better in each and every category is simply not true and I own a 2020 M1 MBA.
DId you see our hands on comparison? We literally compared real world performance (see for yourself). Like I said I love the 3:2 screen but the M1 Air's has more accurate colors, better contrast, is sharper, and WAY less reflective. Sure if need a touchscreen then you can't use the Mac.
