Autumn Arabesque - Kenneth Young (NZ)
My phone always run out of storage when I try to get a recording of this one. Luckily, I have discovered the free video storage of Facebook/Instagram!
I had quite a few memory gaps on this piece at my lesson as it hasn’t been a priority this week (too busy on the force of destiny overture!) Since I haven’t looked at it in a while, I thought it was a good day to try recording it to see where the main issues are.
I shake very badly while playing this piece, so I need to do lots of practice actually performing this one (not just in front of my camera!) So if anyone wants to be an audience please let me know!!
    Some feedback from my lesson:
    • Introduction needs to have more rhythmic energy. Today I have been trying to add that it. Not sure whether I like how it sounds though? I really like it more laid back, the added movement sounds a bit violent, maybe tone it back a bit?
    • Figure 2 and Figure 6 (main melody entries) Need to bring RH melody out more. Practice RH melody alone to get it more stuck in mind.
    • Bars 87-90 parallel 3rd. Pulse from these bars needs to continue to the triplet section.
    • Section 4 need to keep the triplet figures. Playing them too slow loses the syncopation and they begin to sound like duplets.
    Issues found while recording today:
    • Bars 36-38 major memory slip!! Complete blank mind on what chords to jump to. Not sure how to fix as these are very strange feeling shapes…
    • Bars 110-111 major memory slip!! Happened at lesson as well. Got rid of memory slip in bars 108-109, so it has moved to a new place now!
    • Bars 172-176 no picture in mind of chord shapes. Relying on muscle memory only which is a very dodgy idea. Need to actually find a way to analyse chords so can be recalled fast while playing.

Wow if that is your student room, they haven't certainly improved greatly from my days.

this is much nicer than my room last year! This is probably the best student room I'll ever have, so I'm making the most of it!!
