Hey Ripper, I was there 1986 to 1990 also. It's surreal to see the WSA after all these years. Conversation is funny, especially when they are speculating about what different signs were for and what would have been housed in different containers....

Don't be ashamed of your fear of heights. I had a shift commander (officer) that was afraid of heights also and he only climbed those tower stairs Once in 2 years to conduct a post check on me in that tower. When he finally made it inside the cab his face was white as a ghost! LoL,

Bloody peace campers were a nightmare they got over the barbed wire topped fences by throwing carpet over it, I was volunteering for the ARC at the time, and saw a few skirmishes.

Guys, obstruction light switch is for the red light on top of the tower. They are called obstruction lights and are for warning aircraft of high objects around the airfield.

Wow crazy,the plastic shade is maid back were I'm from,just to think they use something from half way around the world,an its older cause the area code is 213 an is now 818 changed somewhere in the 60's or 70's.

See the little bullseye chips in the armored glass? I put those there with glass marbles and a wrist-rocket slingshot. I'd get bored on the interior patrol and would ping a few off the glass just to f@ck with the Tower Operator - especially when it was Timmy Beef Mouth on duty.
