Every media organization in the world profited from interest in Sandy Hook. Only Alex questioned the official version of events.
No one is officially safe.
He was sued for pushing his audience to harrass the families of the people who were killed at sandy hook. Alex Jones had years of chances to cooperate with discovery and present a defense, free speech or otherwise. He refused every chance to legitimately defend himself in court because his only chance of making it through this with an intact business was to deny and deflect. You should watched Alexs' and the rest of the infowars crew deposition, they're unhinged.
Alex Jones didn't kill anyone. Why would he get sued for a Billion dollars. It's because Alex Jones has a Huge platform called Infowars and they didn't want more people researching Sandy Hook

Alex Jones conspiracy on Sandy Hook led to massive levels of harassment towards the family members of the kids who died that day. Some of them were being harassed so much they had to move. Do you know how expensive that is? On top of that, Alex is making money off these outlandish claims.

It's a civil defamation I believe. Not criminal.

The court found him liable by default for damages from defamation. Jones gave massive troves of all documents, but the Judge said he should have given more. Because of that, she defaulted against him without a trial of his peers. Now we are in the civil penalty phase where they decide "how much does he owe".

The clips were longer than that, long enough to show actual statements, and opposing counsel can challenge anything presented in those clips if they have actual opposing facts, in this case they didn't seem to have had any real factual defense for anything, and Jones lied on the stand multiple times.
