  • The father of Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza broke his silence for the first time since the December 2012 massacre. Don Dahler talks with Andrew Solomon, who interviewed Peter Lanza, about why the gunman's father decided to speak out.

    "We have a disturbed son."
    So the mother goes out, buys him an extemely dangerous gun, takes him to a firing range.
    And not a single person in these interviews even addresses that. That's why this happens over and over, nobody is addressing the real issues behind these maniacs of all ages with guns.

      @fragmatic1964 Год назад +3

      The gun didn't pull the trigger. As you said, if it wasn't for another person enabling that access, this tragedy might never have happened. Sadly, this is a multiple point failure in parenting as well as the mental health system. If we don't look at solving the root causes of these shootings nothing will ever get better. The weapon used is secondary.

      It sounds like the mother did exactly that and did everything she could for her child. Now with that being said clearly her thought process on keeping guns in the house is the ultimate deciding factor in this tragedy. Adam was seen by professionals and ultimately they were the ones that dropped the ball. The father I believe has nothing to do with this as in it wasn't his choices that made Adam do what he did. Dad divorced Mom. Mom wanted custody. Kid was troubled. Troubled kid was taken to professionals that pry loaded kid up on pills. Mom of kid kept guns in the house. Kid loses his mind takes guns and kills mom and then went after those poor babies. The major problem here is our mental health facilities in the United States are non-existent. Regan is the ultimate reason I'd hate to say why a lot of this has happened. It all goes back to somewhere and getting rid of Belleviews and kook prisons is a huge problem.

    I don't know how I should feel about this video. My first reaction is that the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. He wishes his son had never been born? Obviously no attachment or love for his son. What happened to parents loving their children unconditionally? So, the mother was in deep denial and more interested in making everything appear fine on the outside, and the father was disconnected. No wonder Adam Lanza was even more troubled than anyone realized. Looks like it might possibly be genetic. I think it's a depraving thing for the father to say. Makes me wonder how Adam was raised when his parents were together. Did the boy pick up on the fact that his father really didn't love him? The whole thing is very, very sad.

      I know you left this comment a year ago now, but in case anyone was wondering why this is the case:
      The grave locations/funerary practices of mass murderers are rarely (almost never) disclosed to the public because it’s very likely that their graves would be vandalized/the funeral homes that helped would face repercussions. If I remember correctly, when the Boston marathon bomber was killed, Bostonians threatened to dig him up if he was buried on city grounds.
      I see why they do it, but I don’t think mass murderers or their graves deserve that kind of respect.

    His language is bizarre to me, as if he see's his son as absolutely disconnected from him. While I'm not making excuses for Adam at all. I wonder if the quickness to disassociate himself from his son to protect himself was the same attitude he took with his son. Maybe Adam Lanza truly had no one who loved him for real.
    If my son killed murdered a thousand people I would think it abhorrent for sure. But I would still love my son and try to support him. That's just how I see being a father.

    Oh by the way, I called and talked to a head of school security investigator from another state, about 2 wks ago, and he said he had more visits from law enforcement, that instructed him to notify them before he makes his next trip to CT., or town of Newtown, CT> was going to sue him for harassment!
    The last time he went there to investigate, no one would tell him anything. One question he had for them, was who,(what company) cleaned up all the blood, brains, and guts all over the school, after the murders and before the school could be demolished it had to be cleaned by someone?. They refused to tell him!
    He also said, that there was frickin Asbestos, all up in that frickin school building!

      Adam unfortunately was a malignant psychopath, he even as a child in elementary school wrote a book about a cannibalistic old lady who would lure kids, torture, and eat them. His eyes scream out disturbed and lacking a soul. So I don't know if his father being there would have made a difference, especially given Adam didn't want his father around since his father was prone to rational decisions.
