When this happened my son was too in first grade. Also in Connecticut. When I picked him up from school I literally picked him up and carried him. And I remember one of the staff saying “yes hug your babies” I took him home and told him what happened. I didn’t let him go to school for like a week. I would call the school and tell them “ I’m calling my son out I just don’t feel comfortable bringing him to school” they were very understanding. My son just graduated high school this past June. And when I tell you every day I dropped him off for school I prayed. Prayed he would come back safe. I hate we have to be afraid of this as parents. We shouldn’t be afraid to send our kids to school. Rip to all of those babies. And my heart goes out to the parents.

these arent even half the schools who’s been victim to school shootings. how many more people have to die until we finally focus on gun control? why are schools and the government so focused on phones and clothing when actual KIDS are dying? it gets worse each time. lockdowns arent for survival, theyre to draw the least attention to the shooter to a class. now police arent taking it as serious. schools are ignoring the warning signs. texas just did a big “fuck you” recently by making a DNA kit to make it easier to identify your kid if they ever got shot up, they want to arm teachers… what job that isnt law enforcement involves guns? what if a kid gets access to that gun? i dont even know if im going to make it to graduation. every day i go to school im in CONSTANT fear and im a freshman. im supposed to be enjoying my highschool years not planning out how im going to hide and or escape the school. recently my middle school had a shooting threat and the school didnt take it seriously. thankfully nothing happened but thats EXACTLY what happened to more recent shootings. the school system and government is corrupt. theyre focused on the wrong things no matter how many times we scream at them to acknowledge the fucking gun control they turn away. how many more kids have to die? how many teachers have to die? how many parents have to lose their kid? how many siblings have to lose their sister or brother? how many mothers have to make one less meal because their kids dead? how many “never agains” were going to get before its actually never again? how many people have to deny the shootings for them to realize its all real? its only america. nowhere else. same day sandyhook happened, there was a guy with a knife in i believe a korean school and guess what? no one died or even got injured. fuck this country.

exactly before the recent shooting a kid from my old school(which my brother still goes too) got arrested for a shooting threat(i knew him we were sat near each other my last year there) and then a week after this the Apalachee shooting happened my friend lived near there, some kid at his school had a gun the next day nothing happened thankfully, but the school still didn't take it seriously since that incident another school near my friend was threatened than a school near my old one was threatened than my old school was threatened again than my other friends school was threatened than my best friends school was threatened and now another one of my friends school was threatened. We all live in different fucking states. None of these schools are taking it seriously.

exactly. 8th grader here, my school got a threat and my friends and I have been super anxious. we can’t even stand an announcement without being ready to go into action, because we think it’s a lockdown. luckily, nothing has happened, but I’ve recently been watching videos about these incidents, and it really breaks my heart. what goes through the perpetrators minds? why has this been happening for 25 years straight? why isn’t our government taking action and worrying about these kids dying in schools, rather than the Mexican border, and Asians “eating cats and dogs”? america is actually corrupted. this is a rock bottom country. “never again” we’ve said, for 12 years straight; yet it still happens. we’re actually trapped.

update🫶🫶🫶 so yesterday we were supposed to have a pep rally but during transition period the principal said that we were on a hold (kinda like a lockdown but we dont have to hide in a corner) then teachers started yelling at us to get back/in a classroom and basically started pulling us into their classrooms. for like a good 30 minutes we couldnt talk until the principal said the hold was over but we couldnt leave our class unless its for the bathroom or if our parents picked us up. we were there for like 3 hours from 1:45 til the end of the day (4:00) but after 2 hours everyones parents picked them up including my mom. apparently someone took another persons backpack and they were looking for it. when they found it in a truck there were multiple guns in there. apparently whoever brought the guns were planning on using them during the pep rally. while i was waiting for my mom she told me a news crew was outside the school so we knew it was serious and the rumors were probably/mostly true but the school hasnt said anything yet.

A terrible crime which could easily have been prevented.
The fact that young Daniel is so casual and accepting about the sound and use of gunfire, and that "These things happen at many schools", is sickening to hear from a young child who should be safe from such a threat. He's a very sharp-minded and articulate little boy, and clearly a deep thinker, but I think he may be a bit tunnel-visioned and dismissive about it.
There's nothing positive, whatsoever, about any shooting. I know that the parents and families of the unfortunate children who were killed are trying to deal with their pain in the best way that they can, but until the crux of the matter is addressed, nothing will change.
The American constitution of allowing all citizens to bear arms is ridiculous, because they only live in fear of each other, and constantly feel under threat. That's no way to live!
Shootouts are not the answer to the problem. There's good and bad in every society, but guns only make it easier for those with hostile intentions to win.
Comparing a gun to a car is pathetic. _"Firearms are a tool. They're a tool for our freedom, they're a tool for our personal protection, a tool for hunting, sport, heritage."_ Well, it's actually easier to change gun legislation than it is to change the American mentality. Guns should not be a part of any culture!

Even tho I don't agree with guns like at all, if it is legal for the public then only hand guns (like pistols idk) or like guns for hunting ahould be allowed. Why the hell would a civilian need a machine gun?! Thats for fbi or war idk but not civilians. That's messed up! Idk too much about guns but this is from what I've learned. You can defend yourself with a pistol or such but with a machine gun you'll easily kill that person (and you shouldn't aim to kill) and not only that but you can accidentally hurt others

Elementary kids usually have school library as a part of their schedule. My daughters school calls them specials (ex. music, art, library, technology, etc) and she does library once a week. So the way I took it was the mother may have known he was having library that day and his book was due to be returned so she took it to him. Of course, it's not a huge thing and they are allowed to be returned late, but usually the child wouldn't be allowed to check out a new book until the old one had been returned. Just my perspective.

The vast, vast majority of Americans would never do this, would never use their guns to even consider such a heinous act. Violating their rights is just wrong. Something has to be done, but what? And it doesn't help at all that our country has only become more polarized since then, with politicians taking every tragedy to push a political agenda rather than do what's right.

To be fair I don’t know a lot about guns but majority of the school shooters used a similar style gun. No one under the age of 20 needs a gun like that. About 2 weeks ago I was sitting at work and we have a police scanner in our office because of the work someone else there does also, it came across the radio about 30 minutes before school let out that 15 shots were fired at the middle school. Majority of us have kids or grandkids in school that day, mine are at the age they didn’t have their phones with them so for about 15 minutes maybe less..felt like a lot more we sat in silence and didn’t hear anything. My dad was at the elementary school picking my youngest 2 up and said he saw all of the police and fire trucks. My daughter who is in the middle school had checked out at lunch that day. Turns out there were shots but not at the school, someone in behind the school was doing target practice with some kind of gun that was rapidly firing. They were on their property but close enough that they could hear the shots at the school where the windows were open. I’m saying all that to say that’s probably the only time in my life where I felt that sick, scared and helpless. I’m by no means comparing that to parents who have genuinely been through it but I hope no parent ever has to go through that feeling again

@@brittanyreed4377 Actually, most mass shootings, including school shootings, are carried out with handguns. In fact, the vast majority are. It is only the high-profile mass shootings where the semi-automatic rifle becomes more popular. And of course part of the reason they're high-profile is based on the message the media wants to promote.
These rifles are quite popular in the public. There are tens of millions of them out there. However, in terms of gun violence, they are the least used of all types of firearms. If we were to ban semi-automatic rifles and successfully confiscate every one, there would barely be a blip in gun violence numbers.
