- In this video, I'll show you how to create your own "DIY Magical Powders or DIY Color Burst Powders." They are easy to create with a secret product you may already have at home if you have little kiddos or teens!
I experimented a bit before creating this video to share with you because I wanted it to not only work but also try and provide different options of the products I share.
You may not know this, but I have a new website that I built and while it's not at all perfect, it works for me and I'm excited to be able to share some product links (affiliate) with you that have pictures. So, this way, you'll know exactly what you're clicking on to find the product. My website is ever changing but down the road, I'll show you another video that I'm super excited to share so stay tuned!
Going forward for products that I use in videos, I will be linking to this page of my website: www.kali9designs.com/my-favor.... You should be able to find everything I'm using and or sharing with you in the video. It has visual images of everything so it should be much easier for you to find what I'm showing in videos. I hope you find it helpful! In the event you see something I'm demonstrating in my video that is not on the link, please let me know and I'll help you find it!
Thank you for liking, subscribing, sharing and commenting. When you click that thumbs up icon, it tells RUclips that this content is something the crafting community likes and wants to see. So, that one little gesture makes a difference. Thanks for stopping by!

Do you plan on making your own DIY Magical Powders or Color Burst Powders? I'd love to know! They're not only fun to make but you can make so many color combinations! I had the best time making these gorgeous card panels. Be sure to check the video description for links to a page on my new website where you'll find links to all things I'm using in this video. 😀 I hope you enjoyed--let me know what you think!
I will be making some of these, love the little bottles too!
@@created2bless322 they’re perfect for this technique, too! ♥️
@@KathyaKalinine This is a great DIY. Cardmaking stuff is so overpriced. It's great to be able to do it ourselves. I already have made some Magical Powders but using Kool-Aid instead of Tie-Dye and it worked perfectly...
@@caroricbreton wow! Kool-Aid…GREAT idea! Did it work well and stick? I love sharing crafty hacks! 😊
@@KathyaKalinine It is non sugared Kool-Aid witch is more difficult to find these days in store but it still exists and is very cheap. A few years ago when I bought it it was 25¢ for an envelope (package). Not sticky but smells good.
Kathya...My guess is that if the person that complained about your idea would have come up with it themselves, THEY would have posted it so fast it made your head spin. They were probably just jealous that they were unable to come up with the idea. I think this is absolutely BRILLIANT!! On my way to get some dyes right now! You keep on my friend...you will have more people that appreciate you than people who complain!! God Bless! Oh...almost forgot...when you mix ANY colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel, you will get brown. People that say "mud" are simply not lovers of brown...I am, so I will always experiment. Thank you again, this video actually made my day...this is amazing. I look forward to more of your ideas!
You just made my whole day with your sweet comment! I love brown, too-all colors, actually! Thank you for your encouragement, my crafty friend! Hugs!!! ♥️
Love mica powders! Good for you, Kathya, that you came up with a ‘dupe’…aren’t we supposed to use our supplies as creatively as possible!?! 💗
Yes! Exactly! Thanks for your kind words, Isabelle!!!♥️
Ohhh! Those beautiful colours that mix and meld. Thank you for sharing your projects. 😊
You’re very welcome! ♥️
I think it’s unfortunate that someone had a problem with creating a DIY. Not everyone has the funds or access to the original products. In any event, I know that I always end up with product that doesn’t get used. If any of those products can be repurposed, hooray for us. Thank you Kathya, keep up the great work.
You’re amazing. Thank you so much for the encouragement! Crafty hugs!!! ♥️
I'm interrupting my watching of this video to say I THANK you for your innovation. So very many craft-related items are ridiculously expensive and there are alternatives that work equally (if not better) than the more expensive ones. In this time of raging inflation, when a pound of steak costs as much as many workers make in an hour, I'm grateful for these tips. I have wanted to experiment with Rit dyes in this same way, just never got around to it. You encourage me. Now, back to the video, but I'll leave this comment open til the end. And by the way: inflation is not caused by any politician. After the shortages of the COVID era, greedy wholesaleers and retailers, and the oil and gas companies have just continued to raise prices. If you don't believe me, look at their quarterly reports. Record profits. The examples were beautiful.
You’re so very welcome! I totally hear you on craft products being so expensive. Not only that, I have no room for some of the large jars that have pastes, etc. I’ve been experimenting for years with craft products and making my own concoctions. I find them to work the same as the more expensive ones and I can make smaller quantities. I experimented with some products and created some shimmer sprays and it was super easy. I’ll probably share a video on that soon, too. Thank you for watching! ♥️♥️♥️
Just found your channel and have subscribed, i'm loving your craft hacks and have just ordered some silicone face mask brushes from one of your other videos. I got quite excited by this one with the tie dye kit as I was sure I had picked up one somewhere a while back (probably a car boot sale) but I can't find it. What I did find when looking for it was a box of metallic fabric sprays so might have a go at making my own coloured sprays with that. In the meantime I will look out for a tie dye kit as I do love my powders. Thank you, keep up with the hacks, they are brilliant . Love from Scotland xx
How sweet of you! I’m so glad you found my channel, Evelyn. I’m 3/4 finished editing a new video. That will come on Friday or Saturday this week. Thank you for the kind comments and for subscribing! Crafty hugs from Washington state, USA! 🥰
Wow those are great! Thanks Kathya!
You’re welcome!!! ♥️
I have all the colors of the colorbursts i have still been looking for a DIY alternative because they are rather expensive when I need to restock. I have been looking and this is the only tutorial I have found! THANK YOU so much love this idea
You will love the effects! Have fun!!! 🥰
Glad t have found this video, have been looking around for a couple weeks, and yes, if I can make my own for less, I'm gonna do it, great job!!💜💜💜
Wonderful! Let me know how it goes! Glad it helped and thank you for watching! ♥️
How fun!
Thanks, my sweet friend! ♥️
So happy to see your video! I value much those who save us money on our crafty journey and love following you for that reason! I am grateful to you for what you have shown us and taught us. As usual your cards are so gorgeous!!! Keep shining, and don't let anyone dull your sparkle!!!
You’re just wonderful! Thank you for your sweet comment. Hugs and I hope you have a great day! ♥️
I just found you! How have I not known you were there?! Love your videos!! Thanks for giving us affordable ways to create.
Aw, thank you!!! What sweet comment and a great way to start my day! New video coming soon! ♥️
Thank you for sharing this dupe. I have left over tie dye, this is a great use for it.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching! ❤
Love the backgrounds you created with this fabulous technique. Thank you Kathya for sharing another great discovery! 💚
You’re very welcome, my friend! Hugs! ♥️
Gorgeous cards 🥰 I love your backgrounds, the shimmer and shine and fabulous colors ❤️ thanks for sharing your creativity Hugs xx
Thank you, Joan! ♥️♥️♥️
Love your ingenuity! New sub here, thank you!
Thanks for subscribing!!! ♥️♥️♥️
This is so brilliant! I have plenty of all the supplies you mentioned, so I'm definitely going to need to make my own. Thanks for this awesome video.
Have fun! Let me know how it goes! ❤
Kathya, I am a new subscriber, drawn by this video title. I thank you deeply for sharing your creative endeavors. I think the cost of most craft supplies (stamps, dies, inks, items such as the color drops, color bursts, brushos, and so forth) are way over priced for what they are. Sure, I appreciate design talents of Tim Holtz and other such designers, but the purchase prices are 20 times the cost to manufacture. It's obscene how costly simple supplies are - paper, cardstock for example. So any time I can find a way to use a low cost item to achieve the same effect - I say go for it. I remember a few years ago when an adhesive type product came out (actually I think several companies made versions) which allowed you to use heat-reactive foil with it. I tried using matte gel medium and it worked beautifully at a fraction of the cost. I'm babbling now. So I say ignore those snooty craft product folks and keep playing scientist. Many thanks. Diane
You’re so right, Diane! I can’t justify trying to pay a crazy price for something when I have all the ingredients to make the same thing for a fraction of the price. Crafty hugs to you and thank you so much for subscribing! ♥️🥰
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I love DIY products. I agree with you, I'd rather spend money on things I can't recreate. Thank you for the gum arabic tip. I have a ton of mica powders that my sister gave me but I wasn't sure how to make it adhere to paper, aside from hair spray.
You are so welcome! I would mix just a tiny bit of the gum arabic with the powders. Please report back if you do this. I'm curious to know if it helps.
Brilliant!! Such a great idea. I know you have the mica powders, but shimmery eye make up can be a substitute for commercial mica powder. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely! Old sparkly eyeshadow is a fantastic substitute! I’ve tried it and it does work-just a little more work to break it down to a powder. Thanks for watching! ♥️
Great job Kathya! That is so silly and ridiculous that someone would give you a bad time for showing how to make your own powders. Shame on them. All the big time crafters out there share cheaper ways to do this craft. Keep up the good work and thank you so much for sharing. GOD bless you my dear👍❤️
Your sweet comment made my night! Thank you so much! Happy to share anything that helps us crafters feed our souls in a less expensive way. Hugs to you, my dear! ♥️♥️♥️
thank you!
You’re very welcome! ♥️
Just placed my order for the Mica powders through your link. To my surprise the 35 count Arteza was 40% off. Winning!
That’s fantastic!!!! Winning for sure! I hope you have fun with your new crafty goodies. And thank you for watching! ♥️
Love these diy powders, i have not, and will not buy the original (too expensive for their use) , but really love your diy, will try that if i buy those mica powders (thinking about that for ages...😂 ). Love your channel!! But never get a recommendation from youtube. Eventhough i have you subscribed as "wanting to see all content", so i missed all your fab videos.
Thank you so much 😊 This means a lot to me. Thank you for your kind words! ♥️
I have a bunch of radiant pearl. It isn't water reactive but is mica. Would it work in place of mica powder?
I would imagine it would! Try a very small sample so as it to set it but please report back and let us know how it works! ♥️
Any1 who got upset that u hacked this is crazy. The colorburst & colorpops r outrageous...u could also mix this pigment with ur own texture paste & get a type of shimmery gilding or texture paste...the possibilities r endless lol
You’re exactly right! In another video, I share a way to make your own shimmer paste using gel medium. That’s all in the crazy expensive craft products. I don’t buy them because my craft space is small and I have no room for all those jars. Thank you for watching! 🥰
I wish I could've discovered you earlier
Hello Kathya, are the Tond-Oh's still available for purchase?
Hi! Not at this time. I’m trying to find a craft company who is interested in helping promote and sell them for me. Then, I will announce it. Stay tuned! ♥️
