We cannot force them to take meds. We cannot force them into shelters. We cannot force them in rehabs. We CAN force them out of our parks, off our beaches, off our sidewalks, force their RVs off our streets….that we can do…and we should be doing it in greater force. Back them into a corner. Make it impossible to infest anywhere. They will then either seek help or leave. Either way is a win win.

Here’s the sad truth….they can’t. He is not a danger to himself or immediate threat to others. Even if they took him, the facility would release him. They cannot force meds. Lawyers sued for their rights to refuse mental health help. Let’s say best case scenario…they take him in, the facility puts him on meds. They release him.
      Three ways it goes:
      1. He sells his meds immediately. Right back to this within a few days.
      2. He takes his meds but then the stress of participating in life gets to him. Off meds….right back to this within a few weeks.
      3. I have seen this so many times. On the meds doing great. Participating in life. And then the brain lies to them: “I feel much better, normal even. I don’t feel like I’m sick anymore. Only sick people take pills. Since I’m not sick, I don’t need my pills”. Off the meds…right back to this in several months.
Until we can mandate meds….or involuntarily commit people even after they are on their meds….there is no solution.

With all that crap there, it took a long time to build up. Nip it in the bud and don't let them set up shop. What a waste of police resources. Build a camp, let them stay.
