The big point here is to power your O3 with the flight battery, THEN plug it into usb-c. At least for me, and many others it seems you will not have the calibrate camera option in DJI Assistant UNLESS its powered first by the flight battery. Great video as always Mads!
i did mine last weekend had the same problem, i just wanted to let people know how easy the camera can be scratched by dirt , i bought a ND UV filter to cover the lens hopefully this protects the lens a bit
Perfect timing! I replaced the cable to my camera with a longer one and it was reading that same message afterwards, "camera needs calibration," well I ignored it. I fellow pilot flew my quad and ask the same thing just last week. Then I saw this video and bam! I followed your steps and its gone now. Thank you so very much!
of course you also have a video on this topic, great help - thanks! I had to switch lens module since one of my 2 new units had a faulty one....

One of the statements made is factually incorrect and should be addressed. The lens is in fact replaceable its a screw in type lens that does in fact need to be adjusted from time to time as vibrations and lack of glue from the factory lead to it becoming out of focus. What is true though is there is not a single replacement available because its an M11 aka 11mm thread size instead of the standard M12 or M8 you'd find on all other fpv cameras. When i reached out to Runcam and asked if they would make a replacement lens like they do for most every other fpv camera on the market they replied with the following "Thank you for reaching out to RunCam. I am sorry to reply that currently we cannot provide another lens for O3 camera due to authorization. If it gets available in the future, we will release a post for that. Thanks again for your support, have a good day! Best Regards, Kaisa"
I was looking for this comment before I made a post. I measured 10.7mm in diameter at the threads and total length of the lens is 11.3mm. Have you checked the lens with a thread gauge check board?
What a coincidence! I just changed mine last night. Had a loose sensor. Calibration caught me off guard, then after the calibration it wanted to say my unit wasnt activated anymore. Was wierd. It went away.
@MadRC you know funny thing is I've had over 7 support emails back and forth with dji support about the rc link issue, I reconnected with them today about it and got a response that the engineer team "may have a workaround". Just need some info back from me and my logs. Grain of salt but wishful thinking. Lol we all now how dji is. Rather give you an $80 accessory credit or an SD card. 😆 😆 BTW keep it up Mad....as a circuitry guru I truly enjoy all of your content. I k ow it isn't easy but you keep it real. Thanks! BTW day later and my u it still wants to activate. Lol
Thanks for that video. I have today replaced my O3 Cam with a cam from an old Avata. The Cam is the same. Within the gimbal there is inside the same cam.
@Mads Tech. After you take the back off the camera can you take off the screws that hold the camera in and remove it,will the glass come off,if i had another 03 camera that doesn't work, can i just swap the lens/glass?
Hello! I replaced the camera because mine was showing black screen with message to calibrate on the googles and the calibration always fail. After I did the replacement, the same problem keeps on. Any idea of what's going on? Thanks!!
Can I check whether DJI Avata camera replacement can be calibrated too? I was told that we need to send in for camera replacement since the DJI doesn’t provide the calibration software via DJI Assistant. Can someone advise pls?
@@MadRC DJI: I am sorry that there is no similar camera calibration option on the DJI Assistant 2 for DJI Avata. And we are sorry that we may not support self-repair. If needed, you can send it back to DJI for further service. Thank you for your kind understanding.
I have the error on two of my O3 cameras when I try to calibrate. Sent one of them back to DJI and they said that the camera calibrated to their air unit ok. I use a non Mac laptop, the only thing to try is another computer, but I’d be surprised as it handles everything else ok. It’s frustrating.
@@LiverpoolFPVHub What was the error? When I connect air unit to googles says it need to calibrate on DJI Assistant 2. So I Tried to calibrate it on my notebook (samsung) and I get "calibration failed, please contact DJI"...
I have bought a Cinelog 20 with O3 Air unit. The gyro data is not colllecting. Gyroflow is not working. I’ve put camera on wide angle and rocksteady off, but still no gyro data. Any ideas to fix that?
Just broke mine and got a new one, it came with cable attached. it will be much more easier to just replace the cable that came with camera and not open the camera. That will work ?
Hi, I did the video step by step, the calibration went well, I have a normal video image on my OSD, but when I go to check the file recorded by the unit on the memory card, the file plays with the image completely black, you know? Tell me if it could be some configuration?
Well this sucks. Can you fly over the calibration message? The lens is removable, lefty loosy, but nothing to replace it with. So, you can't pre-calibrate backup cameras for in the field? ( I know you said Used) I don't want to have to lug a laptop up the mountain.
This has been seen now and then and it’s usually a bad camera module. Remember though the gyro data is baked into the video file and not a separate one.
hello there, somebody can help? I got a problem with the gyroscope of the camera of O3, i'm update this several time (on mac), so the menssage on the goggles 2 disappear, but when i want to process the mp4 imagen on the last version of gyroflow, say this menssage: The file format was detected, but not found movement data The camera probably does not record data movement in this particular shooting mode. 4:3 2.7k 60fps eis off d-cinelike. any sugestion?
I was not believing the head line first - till 1:40 and the explanation which I have read but forgotten, I mean the post production of the footage to get it stabilized. At least the repair or replacement looks easy to fix and not filled with nasty coolant stuff i had seen in most recent chinese solar power inverters full of compound you can not remove therefore close to no chance to replace the dead power transistors and what not, I mean 3 cm or 4 cm of ugly compound. I hope that this stuff gets so expensive that they simply stop doing so.
This video is probably not up-to-date anymore. I have a O3 unit, its activated (camera too) and I still cant calibrate the camera. My expert tecnician says this is happening to all O3 cameras now when replaced and that there is no fix. Is this true??? @madstech
