I had that Palace top as a kid, replete with yellow numbers on the back, not because I supported them - I'm Tottenham - but because it was fucking beautiful! Palace should bring it back. Also, Don Rogers - I forgot about him. He was like a gunslinger or something!
Bernard Joy to those in the know was the epitome of a gentleman footballer. I think he may have been the last amateur to play for England. To play at Arsenal so soon after the Chapman era must have been awe inspiring. If you're related you should be very proud.
VAR has just disallowed that winning goal and brought it back for a penalty at the other end. Massive London bias from the panel. I know it was LWT’s Big Match but surely some Midlands and Northern teams scored some good goals during their seasons’s coverage?
We have lost our skill set in England how many of today’s players could score goals like these on bad muddy pitches like that? And remember that ball was heavy
4:42 That took a slight deflection(you can hear it more than see it) and it wasn't a particularly outstanding goal. That surely wasn't the fifth best goal seen on ITV in 1973.
It was when ITV regions did their own football programmes. I lived in Newport Pagnell (picking up Anglian Television only) and had to endure Norwich and Ipswich matches endlessly. Used to love staying at my Nan’s in Watford because you got to see the London clubs play and got Golden Goals with Brian Moore.
Don Rogers was one of the best footballers I ever saw in the flesh. Magnificent player.
Great player don . Remember him tearing into teams on his own
I think PAT JENNINGS was the best Keeper of all time ....and one the nicest people you could ever meet
Superb keeper. God, we had some rancid haircuts in them days mind
Nah he wasn't the best of all time
The late great Brian Moore. One of the best TV Sportscasters of all time !!!
The state of the pitch on that Rogers goal. Christ! There's one thing that's certainly improved immeasurably over the years.
Watch him grace a quagmire at Wembley in Swindon's 3-1 League Cup Final 1969 over Arsenal. Tremendous in extra time.
London Goal of the Season 1973.
Love that Palace kit. Reference 102 on the Subbuteo team chart.
6:07 What a wonderful player Stan Bowles was!
I was there.Blimey I am old.Don Rogers was brilliant.
Arguably the best English player never to be capped.
Wonderful time capsule of early 70s Britain....
We had a teacher who looked like Jimmy Hill! You can imagine the stick he got :).

I hated those Palace colours at the time and I still hate them now. The bright red and blue of today are much nicer.
Pat's hair has a "satire this matey" look about it.
🤣
It's Acrylic and he must have nicked Supermac's lamb chop sideburns to boot 🤣
I still despise the BRANDING of teams shirts...this was a joy to watch again...samsung, emirates, nike..rot in hell
Neoliberal corporate crap. Bring back actual sovereign nations.
Pats hair is like a very rough ocean
Chinny Hill brings back memories
Pat Jennings was a great goalkeeper. But those sideburns. They were so big they must have had their own postcode!
Those sideburns stopped some goal attempts!
His hands were like shovels
Do find it weird my Great Grandad is on this; Never net Bernard Joy, but I can see the resemblance between him and my Granduncle Chris
The big match was a london footy show thats why they are all london clubs, we had kick off in the north west
It was in the West Country too
Star Soccer in the Midlands
Amazing goals. Football was soooo much better then.
Look at Big Pat! Love the man! That's a style that needs to come back!
Bernard Joy is my great Grandad

Is he? I’m not sure I know who you are? No profile pic you see
Went that Palace game ,was 11, ended 3-2
Jimmy Hill, aka Phil's best impression, and Big Pat, aka Phil's favorite goalie. COYS!
Pat Jennings x
Rogers deserved it for two reasons...first he looked like a porn star...and second on a pitch like that muddy his strip was completely clean!
Lol!!
Same at Wembley 1969 League Cup Final. 3rd goal end of extra time in the mud, and absolutely spotless.
Looking decidedly like Ron Jeremy in the inset 🤣
And it's Pratt with the long ball up to Pratt… inside to Pratt… through-ball to Pratt… back out to Pratt…
Hair was very different in 1973
Sideburns. Very popular in early 70s

What's shane McGowan doing on the panel lol 🤭
I scored against Phil Parks x
Pat never wore a wig. You're thinkinging about his friiend Gary Numan.
This was a regional selection. No northern teams considered. Just appears to be London clubs!
London Weekend Television
@@adrianpilcher703 Then it should be called Southern Golden Goals.... or Golden Goals of London....
We have lost our skill set in England how many of today’s players could score goals like these on bad muddy pitches like that? And remember that ball was heavy
What's Jimmy got on his Gunga Din? almost a glove or sock as a chin warmer 🤣
no tattoos and players from the British Isles
Crikey! 50 years?
The footie was great but the fashions & hairstyles were just horrendous... Long live the 70s.
Why cant you buy a wig like Pat's any more
Do they do Acrylic syrups anymore ?🤣

LWT
Hang on a minute - these are all Cockney club goals lol

@Ashley Hyne🤣
Every one a London club player l
It was The Big Match on London Weekend Television (LWT), that's why.
Didn’t the non-London opposition score any goals in any of the games?
Good grief the 70s were so boring and dull, no real colour in life as well as on the telly. No wonder hooligansism was so rife
Forgot how BORING Jimmy Hill was.
He was a good presenter, but he could waffle on
