Bitwig - How to make Synthwave music E01
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 мар 2018
- I got a request to do some Synthwave sound design in Bitwig so here we go. We are using the phase 4 synth and polysynth to create sounds for a synth wave / retro wave track.
We create a bass, arpeggio synth and a crunchy lead sound with phase-4...and also add some typical drum samples. I also talk a little bit about sidechaining with the dynamics plugin for a punchy sound in Bitwig.
I hope you get some great tips to create your own awesome synthwave sounds with Bitwig or your DAW of choice!
It's a bit longer than my usual videos but bear with me I'll keep it shorter next time. Let me know what you think of the format.
The final song from this tutorial is called - Shields Up:

Thanks so much for all the videos. Most of all I like the format when you make sounds from scratch or show how to arrange from the very beginning!!! Really enjoy your flow and feed thanks!
Hi, thanks so much for the kind feedback! It keeps me going and creating awesome content for you! Be sure to sign up to my weekly at www.morningdewmedia.com for more awesome articles, videos and tips n tricks for composing. I’m planning to do some more composition / arrangement video this week! Thanks again my friend! Keep crushing it!
Matthias Holmgren, watched other videos - from me subscribe and huskies!
Actually on RUclips is very much video on composing. But there are few good teachers who provide important information on creating and using tools. Even fewer (almost none) who show in Bitwig. And it attracts the most. This program is brand new in the market. But she has a great future =)
Great tutorial, great sounds/song. Always inspiring watching people work in Bitwig. I love the "x2 double content" function for duplicating midi events. Select a clip and under the "clip" button you'll find the "x2" function along with other useful ones like "scale 50%" and "scale 200%", and "reverse". Very useful and easily accessible.
Thanks, glad you like this little Bitwig experiment. Yeah the functions are quite cool in Bitwig. A bit limited still compared to Logic, FL. But modt necessary tools are there to do general compositin. I don’t even use all these weird ”halving clip lengths” etc in my work. But sometimes it can be useful indeed. Great tips for the community are always welcome! Reverse is the best, that one I keep pinned to the top bar since I use it in every track. There is only so much you can cover in a video and I try to keep them tight and on topic these days. Glad u like it!

Thanks glad u like the content! ;)
Very inspiring. Thank you again. :)
Hey Dusty, thanks. I'm happy you enjoy these Bitwig dribbling videos! 👌🔥😉
your tutorial here made me upgrade my Bitwig subscription! more Bitwig tuts, please Mattias!
Marz Techeque thanks for the feedback! Ill try to cook some more Bitwig tuts in a week or two. Glad u found something useful. What area got u interested? Sound design walkthroughs or composition techniques? What music genres are u working with? I partly work in design and partly composing game scores and shortfilms but there is a decent span of styles I could tackle.
I work in other DAWs like FL Studio and Reaper (I'm on PC - I know you use Mac from your vids, use of Logic etc) - what I'm interested in learning more about in Bitwig are the unique features that really set it apart... the modulation possibilities, I suppose, for starters... what can be easily done in Bitwig given latest 2.3.2 update that is a "neat trick" or really hard to accomplish in other DAWs... i haven't touched Bitwig in over 2 years and it's come a long way... your tut here shows some nice tricks like Ladder filter etc to get some good results, assigning classic LFO to various parameters...
New Simple Minds album "Walk Between Worlds" just out in Feb has some catchy synth sounds as does OMD's latest "Punishment of Luxury" from last year... 80's bands have updated their synth sounds, not unlike what Bitwig's sound pallet has to offer... sound design, please!
Marz Techeque i understand your references. I also work in Logic and FL studio at the same time since I think some features arr better in those DAWs but it really depends on the end result I am looking for and how I feel working. Logic still is faster for orchestral work for me (i might create a little clip on my thoughts in this area) FL studio has Harmor and Sytrus which to me are insanely powerful and fast synths to work with. I can create the sounds in FL then export and chop it in Bitwig. :) I have PCs running here too but Im faster on MAC. The ease of instant modulation in Bitwig is what sets it apart and I also starting to love the pianoroll more and more! :)
at 14:27 when you say, "not so interesting," etc and then introduce the modulation, etc, the stacking and give the sounds movement - this is where Bitwig shines. I'm reviewing the known tutorials/courses especially on Bitwig 2 to get myself up to speed - good points about FL studio and yes, I saw the FL icon in your desktop from the screen capture... you can't just rely on one sole DAW for everything... Bitwig is faster with the clip slots to build up Scenes and "test" parts together before even committing them to arranger layout - with FL and Reaper you're jumping right into a timeline...
Yesss this sounds goood :-)
Jascha Jaja great thanks for checking in my friend!
Nice tack bro.
MELVIN HENDERSON thanks! Im putting down vocals on the track now so a remix is beeng released quite soon! :)
Good video, well explained and smooth.
This DAW is not really well known to me but it seems to offer a lot of possibility. The fx rack seems very seamless to use. Should I switch ?
It's not for me to decide if it suits you. I highly suggest that you try it out, maybe try a demo or BITWIG 8-Track. For me personally I resonate with the DAW and the modularity. You can do very fun stuff in Bitwig which is impossible in other DAWs. And it work on PC, MAC and LINUX. Hope to see you in the community, Discord, Live streams. =)
@@MattiasHolmgren Thank you man, there is just harmor in FLstudio that I think is incredible but well ... I'll see to it :)
I like it. Very insightful.
Why do you have a peak limiter channel where you send your tracks to?
Hi, thanks. The peak limiter might be there since it's a summing channel output which goes directly to OBS (video capture software) since I didn't want it to record peaking audio. If that is the Bus-channel I think you are referring to. I am capturing the voice over mic separately to OBS and the desktop audio via a separate multi-out device (OSX) to be able to duck the music when I speak into the mic. It's very handy to have this setup in OBS. The downside is that I have to make sure that Bitwig is sending audio through this special output (or else you will not hear any music from the DAW). I forget to do the routing sometimes. =)
Oh, I see. Cool, thanks :)
silence is the greatest of luxuries
Hey, yeah It sure is! =)
Watched about 5 minutes and not having sounds like in video is showed when I unsert notes like in video.
P.S. Just not having notes sounds at all.
What, doesnt your notes sound? Muted something?
@@MattiasHolmgren Probably not inserted instrument. In video I not see in this 5minutes about inserting instrument in DAW.
