I am currently transitioning from FL to Bitwig after 8 years of working with it professionally and honestly your channel was exactly what I`ve needed, I keep finding tutorials that only talk about advanced stuff, so i know how to use the advanced stuff that brought me to Bitwig in the first place but for the whole month working in it I haven`t figured out how to do the thing you explain right at the beginning. Thank you very much.
Well, that was my first xnb tutorial... I really enjoyed it. Well thought out, clearly described, no time wasting... I watched it for ages, pausing, going back, making notes... But it never got boring. Well done I'm impressed, and "I know Kung Fu"

Yes this is also the best way to have good gain staging. You can use your mixer fader at the very end of your mixing process for final balancing, after you’ve dialed in all your main moves with Tool gain. I use Tool a lot.. even between different plugins, to feed each plugin the level it expects. You get best audio quality this way. Search “gain staging” if you want to know more about this.

Thank you for that! I’ve been doing automation for awhile and you still managed to clear some things up for me. If you are ever looking to do more videos on this topic, I would love to see how other people handle automating plugins that you only want on part of the track.
I really like your style of instruction. You are a great tutor! Your vids on BW are saved, and I always enjoy going back over them. Seems I learn something new each time I do! Sub’d, liked, and will watch these over and over!
@@XNBeatsMusic yes, also setting macros with multiple settings on 1 macros is really cool so you don’t get a ton of automation to managed.really like you have explained everything!

An automation thing Bitwig is still missing is being able to highlight a section of time and just drag the automation line. With the effect of four points being created with the inner two increasing or decreasing the desired value, with having them auto highlighted. Like Ableton. I know right now you can kind of auto create two points at the highlight borders, still you have to create two more and select to do this. Too much click click click and frowning involved.

I know I'm a year late on this... but I am not able to make this work! At least as far as a looping audio clip. (see time 24:50): Does this only work for MIDI clips? I have an Audio clip that I have looping ... and if I have the "free" button enabled, and I start the loop with a ramp of volume... but then if I extend the automation length far beyond the length of the audio clip ... I expect each time it loops thereafter, the volume will remain constant.. but no matter what I do, every time the loop restarts, the volume level starts at what it was at the beginning of the clip loop! In other words... I can't make the volume automation independent of the looping clip! Is this a limitation of Audio automation in Bitwig? The one thing I notice that is different is that I am trying this with an Audio clip.. not a midi clip!
Around the 25th minute marker, you explain about the clip automation and point out the Free button; to extend the automation, without having to draw or copy in the MIDI notes over and over again. I always start from the clip launcher mode and record the scenes into the timeline; if I were to make a 1 bar arp (like you) and extend the automation to 8 bars (like you 😂), would the clip be 8 bars long; containing all the MIDI notes / information? Great vids btw mate! I'm going to join your Patreon cuz I like your style..... 🤟🏻
Thanks !!! On the launcher yeah, it would be an 8 bar automation. You would be looping your one bar. But then you need to record the 8 bars, it will not duplicate the clips for you on the arranger timeline. And with the Patreon thing, yeah, everything helps. But only if you can afford it, I really wouldn't like to accept anything if you are financially struggling. That's why my Patreons are 3 bucks, and cancel anytime.
@@XNBeatsMusic Thanks for clearing that up! It was as I suspected. I have been using Live for 12 years and I have to say that Bitwig is really promising; the Grid is as much easier and more intuitive than the Max 4 Live setup (Feels that way to me) and I just love the modular uses of it. After moving from FL Studio, I wonder how over-estimated Bitwig is in terms of automation/modulation: - how to copy/paste point's values? I see only a way to manually set the deserved parameter for each point in the Inspector panel - how to rename automation lanes? usual means like ctrl+click dont work, lane gets its name from a plugin, and having e.g. several lanes called "mix" or "dry/wet" from different plugins is very frustrating - how to set the deserved parameter for the point? If I found a sweet spot for a filter, after the automation is halfway drawn, there is no way to type it or copy-paste it to a desired point - only to manually fine-shift it - inspector shows point's value in percents, and plugin knob - in herz
@@mjaa1307 Hi, I'm still diggin in numerous vids about bitwig automation, but some things are a bit clearer for me: - automations cant be renamed - one can only rename macro knob on a plugin shell in device panel - but it doesnt help in the automation editor at all, when in the list you see numerous lines 'Volume' or 'Mix' and you have no idea which is which :( - it's possible to move a knob value from plugin (in e.g herz) to automation point value in %: you can make it via macro knob - you set the macro knob in plugin's shell in device panel, then you memorize the value in herz (or whatever), then you shift the macro knob to match the value in herz, and popup of macro knob shows the value in 0..1 number, then you multiply it by 100, then you manually type the number in inspector panel for a desired automation point. If to set automation directly, without macro knob - there seems no chance to do it :( - good news are only for numerous automation points - if you want to move them up/down, but want to keep their ratio - you should select them and simply move up/down by mouse or keyboard arrows (hold shift for fine adjustment) - so the workflow for automations I got used to in FL studio has to be revisited upside down in bitwig, I have to invent new moves and habits from zero level, so in case of automations moving from FL is very hard... I still have numerous questions how to do this or that, my routine actions in FL automations, and the answer to half of them - no way I can do it here ((
