Bitwig - How to create Custom Waveform Synth - Sound Design

- A quick Bitwig tutorial with the idea of how to create your own custom waveform synth and setup macros to control the sounds spread both in pitch and panning. Quick an easy!
If you are lazy you can download the preset below.
1. We start by adding a single cycle waveform to a sampler.
2. Setup basic modulations params and hook them up to macros.
3. Move the sampler into a Instrument Layer.
4. Duplicate the sampler so we have multiple instances.
5. Adjust the instances to get different versions and a wider sound.
6. Epic spread control with the macro!
7. Cake is ready to serve!

PS. Don't forget to tune your custom synth so you can use it effectively in your own tracks. =)

Single cycle waveforms are tiny audio files (often in .wav format) that a synth can read to use as oscillator shapes.

I love the many possibilities and you can apply what you learned / fiddled with in other synths (like Zebra, Omnisphere and Serum etc.) in a DAW environment. It's insane. Great thanks! For everyone: Increase the note pitch shifter's semitone by 10 in each layer. Now you don't have to change the root note in the Sampler to D2, everytime you load a new sample.
I'm sure Bitwig's built-in synth is a clever thing, & useful to many. And its integration may have distinct advantages over plugins. But it strikes me: It's a little like a house that has all the major appliances built right into the walls. In both cases, you can use the built-in ones, or you can ignore them and install your own. But also in both cases, it syphons off the builder's/developers' resources into something that's peripheral to the main use of a house/DAW - something that may or may not be to your taste. For busy B.W. users, is instruments where you want the devs to invest their time & attention? Or would you rather they extended & refined the core DAW features, and fixed bugs?
I wish the actual DAW was the main focus rather than competing with other plugin instruments. That said, the new Grid plugins opened up a vast space of usecases. I personally like to see more development focus on actual main DAW features as I mostly use third party plugins anyway. And I guess I am not alone in this area.

Those waveforms from adventurekid all sound so similar. Even though they are categorized as 'violin', 'piano', etc... . I don't get it yet how to make the best out of them.
Hi, yes sometimes it can be a bit hard to see the use from a wavetable. And not all of them are useful. Did you try to set up an envelope to scan through them? Thanks for writing Koen. 🌞
