Hey, man. Thanks for taking the time to put these videos together. I really learned a lot, and I love having a resource to go back to in case I ever have the need. You rock, bro!
In case you’re tripping like I was the timing guide bolts are 89+-17 in lb and also after 2010 you will not have an upper timing chain guide nor an oil squirter. Sorry not trying to nitpick but I’m going through the process and trying to help out anyone else going through the same ordeal.
Thanks for this video Devin… made the timing chain on my evo x so much easier (even if I did it still in the bay) but thanks to your video I knew where every bolt was and can happily report she’s back up and running like a dream, ps have a good time In Mexico
Great job with this build series! I need to change my timing chain to the revised version eventually, and in this video you really helped me visualize what all needs to be done in great detail. I hope all goes well with the tune after you get it put back together!
So I'm in the middle of replacing my head gasket and I get around to the timing part and the chain I took off has no off-color links, assuming I just count them between the marks? If so does anyone know how many links between each one?
5:36 - TQ specs for these bolts are not 17 in/lbs! The FSM (11B-5) lists "Timing chain tensioner bolt" as 89 in/lbs, with a tolerance of +/- 17 in/lbs.
doing this in my 4b11 lancer not evo, im doin it with the block in the car, how long do i need to let the rvt set before i can start the vehicle and all that good stuff?
Do they all have that oil squirter for the timing chain? I’m rebuilding my buddies engine and never saw that coming off? His is an 08’ so it’s one of the first years and also the top chain guide between the cams, 99% sure it didn’t have one of those
You have any knowledge on removing the cam sprockets two aftermarket camshaft or is it simple just remove and replace. I'm going to be installing cams on my Evo soon
Dvniemela yeah I'm doing supertec valve springs and retainers just didn't know if there any specific thing I need to do when swapping cam shaft sprockets?
Thanks this was a very helpful video because im having to do all this because im resealing my head from 2 cylinders leaking (one bad enough to cause misfires, but what do you expect from 203k miles)
Ok, chains don't stretch. What happens is the links wear due to poor servicing or poor lubrication. They generally don't skip teeth either unless the cog teeth are severely worn too. The front timing cases are removable in the engine bay.
I guess he can't read service manual correctly. the torque says 89 in-lb +/- 17 in-lbs. so the torque range is 72-106 in-lbs. Devin you are vastly under torqueing the bolts. I know this video is kinda old, but Devin is wrong about timing torque values! for all those looking this up, he has misread the service manual. good video otherwise.
I've never went by standards on torque.... non ,zero ,late do it a gain .. never gon to spec and my cars have running perfectly for 10+ years.... whis paying you for this" tourqe to spec" bullshit? I guess u wouldn't know. Cause you just follow lead... just saying in a rude way, not everything has to be this or that.( I get it your covering your ass.) I've used tourqe wrench and I havent..haven't... it's all worked out.

Kevin Vines You're welcome 😊

Hi my name is Steve and I like the way you explain everything and you goes to show how it works step by step
The episode 2-3 just told me what i was looking for. I knew i would find it in youre old videos 👌🏻
Thanks for this video Devin… made the timing chain on my evo x so much easier (even if I did it still in the bay) but thanks to your video I knew where every bolt was and can happily report she’s back up and running like a dream, ps have a good time In Mexico
Your the only one that shows this much appreciative of this

Marvin Headrick Would highly recommend doing the revised chain! Thank you 😊
Thanks for the build vids D. I don't even have an evo but love watching this stuff. Brilliant channel! 👍🏼
Yellow Snow thank you!
What sealant did you use
This one is the best video thanks I'm ready tackle my head removals and cams install with head studs thanks sooo much!!!
Boostipher Filmzz you're welcome!
So I'm in the middle of replacing my head gasket and I get around to the timing part and the chain I took off has no off-color links, assuming I just count them between the marks? If so does anyone know how many links between each one?
Hey this is very nice of you showing everyone how it’s done how so ever did you ever seen a 4b11 idle and the rod came through the block ?
Been waiting for something like this on RUclips... Thanks
RoundHouseSlap You're welcome!
Thanks dude.
I'm changing my chat to the updated one. While it's in the engine bay
(Hating life.lol)

Lol I just posted basically the same thing 🤦🏽♂️
You’ve come so far brotha! Your evo build is definitely goals, better yet all your builds 😂
Great how to videos and goes pretty well in depth 👏 thankyou for sharing the knowledge cojldnt have done it without you buddy
You dont apply sealant to the valve cover? Is it just the rubber seal then you torque it?
You are the best thanks for sharing your experience
How do I make sure that the cams are mounted on the cam sprockets properly and in the right direction
doing this in my 4b11 lancer not evo, im doin it with the block in the car, how long do i need to let the rvt set before i can start the vehicle and all that good stuff?
What the purpuse of the short chain inside the oil pan?
How much of oil pressure you are getting at idle on operational temp please advise thanks from Puerto Rico
Also have another quick question did u resurface the head?
Boostipher Filmzz I had a local machine shop resurface the head.
Are the specs going to be different on a lancer es
Do you know the motor mount passenger side torque specs
You said in episode 3 this engine is capable of 600hp. Is it a standard block or did it got strengthen up for more than 600hp
Does anyone knoe is this is the same as the 4b12 GTS engine?
Do they all have that oil squirter for the timing chain? I’m rebuilding my buddies engine and never saw that coming off? His is an 08’ so it’s one of the first years and also the top chain guide between the cams, 99% sure it didn’t have one of those
I believe it was added and the top chain guide was removed in later rev.
You have any knowledge on removing the cam sprockets two aftermarket camshaft or is it simple just remove and replace. I'm going to be installing cams on my Evo soon
Boostipher Filmzz Are you doing springs too? Depending on what cams you install, springs are highly recommended.
Dvniemela yeah I'm doing supertec valve springs and retainers just didn't know if there any specific thing I need to do when swapping cam shaft sprockets?
do you have a spec sheet or link for all these torque specs!?
Where can get engine specs for Mitsubishi engine and other engine brands
Where'd you get the torque sequence and values?
Thanks this was a very helpful video because im having to do all this because im resealing my head from 2 cylinders leaking (one bad enough to cause misfires, but what do you expect from 203k miles)
Yeh - good work on your build/uploads. What exhaust manifold are you using?
My timing chain didn’t have those marks, does it matter?
no it's like double check if everything is perfect.
Is this a interference engine?
Hi there if I have more ? About a built how can I talk to you
good video
Can the timing chain be changed while the engine is still in the car?
You shouldn't need too.
@@pheonixfps9248 my chain stretched and skipped a tooth so I need to
Ok, chains don't stretch. What happens is the links wear due to poor servicing or poor lubrication. They generally don't skip teeth either unless the cog teeth are severely worn too. The front timing cases are removable in the engine bay.
yes it can, other videos on youtube with it in. yes the version 1 chains stretched, mitsubishi changed design later in 2011.
Hey man what’s up! Great job very informative! Did you happen to do valve lash? On the tappets for the cams to see if they are within spec?
I had the shop that rebuilt the head do the valve lash
How long did it take you to build it?
JL EVOX took 2 days, takes a lot longer recording and explaining!
Dam for real u are fk fast, good job . great video keep it Up. Help alot.
Send Hi from Brazil
Fabinho Race Hello!
Fantastic videos do you have one question what about the valve clearances
Head was rebuilt by a local shop so they did the valve clearances.
Thank you for that information and also on the very detailed videos that you do extremely informative and helpful take care mate Rob from Australia
Did you reset the computer programmed timing back to 0?
Errrrrrr nnoooooooooo 😐
who calibrated the lifters on the head ?
WEStTEXAs The shop that went through the head set all the clearances.
where did you get the torque specs from bro
The service manual
That's me though
.. I've learned what the correct tightness per bolt is with out tourqe wrenches.. that's an excuse of why I know what's enough.
Nice bro
EVO X thanks man!
cool video thanks. also what clutch did you go with and how long does it take to do from start to finish.
What year is ur evo
DatBoyyKeith Vlogs 2008.
Wut haha tough it's was like a 2014 or something like that bruh
This engine based on hyundai/kia theta2 engine
Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Dodge all designed the basic block. The Mitsubishi is not open deck like you see in Hyundai's.

Bro 🤦♂️ i did this shit under the car i gotta get a creeper or someshit lol
its not 17inlbs its 89+- 17inch pounds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never went by standards on torque.... non ,zero ,late do it a gain

This is painful to watch.
