    To be clear, you do receive a number of adapters that helps the Echo 400 speedfeed head, purchased separately, to adapt to most any other shaft head type. Be careful that the head and shaft are perfectly mated. The head could be tight but there may be some side to side play meaning one of the supplied washers may be necessary.

    Upgraded my Dewalt 20V DCST920 with an Echo Speed Feed 400 from Home Depot (local, here in Collingwood, ONtario). Easy to switch out directly, no need for all that included washer/spindle/nuts/bolts interface set that’s included. Most happy and grateful. I owe it all to the youtube content experts in this forum. Biggest thanks! Mr. Sparky Channel, you were the most influential on my personal success story with the Dewalt 920 unit towards the Echo Speed Feed 400. I’m not looking back.

      Are you using .095 line now with the Echo Speed Feed Head? Echo shows that’s recommended, where Dewalt shows .080 line is recommended for its speed feed head.

    Perfect. That's exactly the info I was looking for. Going to buy that 20v trimmer now and a Speed Feed 400 so I can run .095 line without having to buy the 60v and not be able to use my 20v batteries. Thank you so much. Subscribed!

    Thank you for the video, I looked and asked this question and got alot of don't know. I have a 20V Dewalt and ordered speed feed. The Quickfeed is $145 on Amazon Canada so I ordered the Eco for $37 big price difference. Great video, Nova Scotia fan 👍👍

      Yes, a lot of brands need adapters to put a Speed Feed on them. It was smart of DeWalt to makes their heads interchangeable with some of the best on the market. Stay healthy and happy my friend!

    If you read the reviews on the DeWalt string head, they are very, very, very poor. The units wear out and are not replaceable with parts for them. They crack easily and most folk feel DeWalt made a huge error in putting them onto the market, as the QA is not good at all on this particular product. They simply do not last and a Husqvarna T-35 head will work just fine as a replacement and is cheaper and easily has parts available. They are easy to load and cheap to purchase. DeWalt Quickload heads are now fairly difficult to get ordered or even found at Lowe's or Home Depot. Maybe DeWalt is pulling them off the market or something, but it is a truly bad product, even though the concept is good. The T-35 will handle 0.95 string well and the titanium string from Husqvarna is one heck of a lot better product than the DeWalt brand string, too. The Husqvarna string heads will also fit well on the DCST920b DeWalt string trimmers.

    Great video, Thanks!
    I got a used DeWalt 20V trimmer a couple weeks ago; it came with a larger 4.5” head which seems to be their copy of an Echo SpeedFeed 450. (Looks slightly different from yours)
    I got a new unboxed SpeedFeed 400 (4 inches) at my local OPE store for just $23, no adapters included, and already strung with .095” “Crossfire”. I had intended to put it on my Kobalt corded trimmer (which I’d bought new just before getting the DeWalt trimmer), because I didn’t like its head.
    I decided instead to put the 400 on the DeWalt trimmer in the hope that being smaller, it would put less strain on the battery. I went back and got a spacer washer for about 50 cents and put the larger DeWalt head on the Kobalt as I figured it could handle the larger head, and the Kobalt (if I don’t return it) could be used for larger jobs. We’ll see in time how my thinking pans out.

    For the times they DON'T come off by hand a Vise-Grip chain clamp wins the battle. A small dab of anti-seize or dielectric grease (whatever's handy) excludes moisture preventing future seizure.

      @@dahut3614 Yes I did! Pretty standard, M10 x 1.25 Left-Hand Thread (LHT). Pretty much any standard head will thread right onto it, counterclockwise.
      I had wanted the info to find a hex nut to attach a fixed-line trimmer, but just went ahead with the Echo SpeedFeed 400 and it spun right on.
      In case you are interested in M10 x 1.25 LHT hex nuts, I bought these:

    • @peacefrog0521
      @peacefrog0521 4 года назад

      Dahut Good Luck! You might also try going to your friendly neighborhood outdoor power equipment retailer (not a big box store) to see if they have an adapter they can sell you. Should only be a few bucks.
      Also if your trimmer has RH thread that means the head probably turns the opposite direction when in use. You may have to open up the new head and flip the spool.

    • @dahut3614
      @dahut3614 4 года назад +1

      @@peacefrog0521 I got a piece of 3/4" hex aluminum from work and bought a tap and made a M8 RH "bushing" on the lathe. I put it in the "White RH Core" that they supply, instead of the black RH one. The directions are really not very good. I used it in the backyard and the string they give you is a lot more aggressive than the .080" round nylon I was using. It seem to vibrate a lot more than my Makita head did, but the bump feed works very well.
