- Faker is the first player to be inducted into the League of Legends Hall of Fame known as the Hall of Legends.
It may seem obvious - but why exactly has Faker been chosen? Why do some people think he shouldn’t have been picked first? And who can we expect to see next?

Not Faker needs Hall of Legends to prove anything; But instead, the Hall of Legends needs Faker to prove this is the Hall of Fame. That's why he "Faker" was the first inductee to this Hall of Legend.

Even questioning whether Faker should be the first legend is such a dumb question.
Most sports usually have two or three players in the discussion for the GOAT, Jordan Vs LeBron, Messi vs Ronaldo, etc. In League, there is no discussion for the GOAT. It is Faker.
Only because there's lots of fanboys out there who pull for their guy. There should have never been a debate between Ronaldo and Messi, it's honestly not close. Messi scored more goals and at his peak was probably also the best playmaker in the world. Ronaldo was seriously never on his level.

I'm a fps player, and I think Faker is the GOAT from all e-sports. Titles, ability, longevity in top level. I never see that in any other title, and is very rare in real sports too. He is that special. He deserves this, no doubt. This is the correct treatment he deserves from Riot

Playing an easier and simplified version of DOTA doesn't quite make him the GOAT of all e-sports.
Retirement in esports is tricky. They can announce retirement today, and play again next split. So waiting for retirement is pointless. They might join Hall of Fame today after retirement then announce that they are returning to be pro next day.
No way any community will accept anyone become the first inductee aside from Faker.

It's similar for some other sports, especially baseball. Some players can't find a contract in pro in their twilight years, so they play in independent league or whatnot. So the qualification is the number of years since last playing professionally.
Tho in League's case, if we wait for few years after Faker's retirement, who knows if League will be as big.
This is silly. Just look at the NFL. You have to be retired for 5 years straight in order to be in consideration. It’s an easy fix.
Honestly, Riot can induct like a class of 2/3/4 players from next year, making faker the only inductee this year. That makes alot more sense than having one inductee a year.
i think the main difference between normal hall of fames and league of legends is that a skin comes along with it. if you add so much per year, its going to become not a "rare" skin in a couple years. Plus i think it's going to be extremely expensive and people who like collecting will complain that it's a money grab. I think they made the right choice of doing 1 per year

Let's be real. The moment they announced the Hall of Legends, the first person who comes to mind is Faker. Even if he is not retired yet, I think it doesn't feel right if he is not the first one to be inducted.
Faker being first is honestly in the best interest of every other player added to the Hall of Fame, if you didn't put him first, every year you would have people questioning the decision process, every year you would hear "why not faker?", there would be memes, there would be angry (twitter) arguments, and the whole time it wouldn't be about the person who was inducted. Also, I don't think anyone in good faith can argue someone has had more impact on the esport, hes in pretty much every cinematic for a reason, and his jersey sales numbers back that up too.
Disagreeing with Faker being the first inductee into a Hall of Fame that practically had his name etched into the walls upon the announcement of the Hall of Legends is an absurd suggestion to me.

1 - Let's be real with ourselves, nobody will likely ever contest his position or title as the goat.
2 - League is SUPER young compared to American Hall of Fame sports like Baseball or Basketball. A lot of the most legendary players in this game have yet to retire. Like who has, Bengi? Doublelift? Amazing players and great shouts, but this is FAKER we're talking about. Like come on, y'all.

Faker does not need the Hall of Legends, the Hall of Legends needs Faker to establish credibility.
I don't think LOL's Hall of Legends would create this much positive buzz if the inductee was anyone other than Faker. Fans wouldn't care too much and might even look down on the HOL because it just won't be credible in their perception until Faker is in it. Putting Faker in first is the best move for Riot as it establishes the HOL as a veritable HOL.
The thing about Faker is that his achievements are quite literally in a league of its own. The new Numbers video from LCK Global shows it. There isn’t anyone else in the world that even deserve to be inducted into the HoL alongside him. He absolutely has to be the first inductee. I think it’s perfectly fine to have multiple inductees next year onwards, but Faker truly does deserve to be the first and only inductee to open the doors to the Hall of Legends.

Put into this simple : faker has been at the very beginning of league of legend , popularized it , and he just recently won his 4 rd title which is a decade after his first. He is definition of living legend
It’s a bit telling when those against this decision only compelling arguments include “he’s still an active player”. Obviously from this point they can and should try to focus on retired players and maybe go to 3 per year or something. But the first had to be Faker.
Generally speaking when you open a hall of fame for a sport, you start with retired legends. And its usually a larger class than most years (like 5-10 people) so you can kind of “catch-up” to the more recent retirees. Faker is the GOAT, but he shouldnt be first because he’s still actively improving his resume. I would argue xPeke, Yellowstar, DiamondProx, and Madlife if you want to start at the Worlds Era, idk about much prior to that. Then if you want to go by how Basketball does it, every MVP and basically every Finals MVP gets in kind of by default (so youd get Marin, Mata, and eventually Canyon and Faker).

Remember league has a very short history per se comparing to other sports with several decades of history + e-sports has a shorter lifespan than typical sports so theres a risk that they wont even be able to release faker as an inductee if the game dies.
Tbf if they released a group of inductees instead all of this wont even be a problem lol except for running out of inductees soon, again, because of the short historu of league

No goat debate. We all know who goes first. No selection needed. He impacted the game also our lives. So no debate
when youre a once in generational talent i think its fine for him to be first, it's like what kelly slater is to surfing, they have a statue of him in Miami to celebrate his career, he's not retired yet and has 9 world titles to his name, truly a once in generational talent. for people to say he should be retired before this is just one of those weird takes people say because they want to be edgy without truly thinking about what it means to be a person/player like that.
Many people argue that the closest player to Faker is Uzi. There is a very good chance he will be #2. And yet, Uzi has 1 international trophy, to Faker's 6. League is not League without Faker, it's as simple as that.
It makes sense for Faker to be inducted first and be the only one at the first time but for the next inductees it should be done in a small group anywhere from 3-5 players and an event made for them. Picking out one player other than Faker is just too hard and there are so many to choose from.
Not putting faker in first would be stupid, he's literally the main character of league. The only person who came close was bengi, who won all of his titles with faker( no disrespect i love bengi) but everyone else, it would be an insult. Madlife, marin, god forbid uzi, they were good but their impact is so easy to forget/never know but anyone whos aware esports exists knows fakers name.

i think XPeke need to be put into the Hall of Legends as well. When someone backdoors, they scream XPEKE! He IS technically a World champion, from EU no less, and he certainly played long enough, not to speak of his personality and banter leaving a big mark on the entire scene in Europe. XPeke definitely deserves it imo

@@comebackfailed6350 xpeke is a world champion (people who belittle the merit because season 1 worlds was a lan and without korean teams are stupid, fnatic still had to compete with the best teams in the world at that time and they came out victorious) he won eu lcs 3 times, won mvp at iem, made many memorable plays (xpeke backdoor obviously, zed vs talon, orianna shockwave in origen) which are far more notable achivements than insec one play. besides lee kick named after him he hasnt won anything. i dont think that making one famous play is enough to be introduced to this hall. maybe if the year was 2015, but in 2024 there were and are many players better than insec, with better plays and more achivements

If anyone has an issue with it being faker its a jealousy thing and thats whatever bore off. Faker is the objectively obvious #1 pick weather your a fan or not even people who dont like league know who he is and that causes a big shadow theres no one who can really hold that conversation all things considered.
If we were to start a conversation over the #2 pick there will be 4 or 5 names who could be there for many reasons so naturally that could be the class of 25/26/27 etc

Holy bringing up the old M5 crew and Fnatic was a nostalgia trip.
I don't keep up with League too much these days but feels like Faker's still in a class of his own. An undeniable 'must have' in the Hall of Legends. I think future additions will be a bit more nuanced especially if they stick to just one person a year.
This HoF will be like 90% Korean players. Only people I can think of from the West would be like DL, Bjerg, Caps, Maybe someone like Xpeke?

I get the point of only inducting Faker first cause it feels like other inductees are being ranked against him, the thing is that historically NOBODY ranks next to him, if the Basketball HOF started after Jordan's time, they would have 100% made sure that Jordan was the first inductee in a similar way to what Riot is doing for Faker, I do think it'd be cool several other legendary players to be added in classes like most HOFs do, but I just don't think League as a game is still relatively young to be doing it that way, so idk, if they add a class of 5 players a year in like 3-4 years the names getting nominated would start to be kinda sketch in comparison to the ones that were already inducted
They are already ranked against him. Faker is the best of the best of all time. and all other gets compared to the best. thats maybe the only way to find out how good someone is. How good is player 2 compared to the best of all time? We always did it. we did it 2013-2023. why should we ever stop this?
It would be more tragic if they don't honor the GOAT of any Sports, worldwide known in and outside gaming (like Kobe) as the first one.
btw: there were some way better player then Jordan in the NBA. The basketball-goat debate is around ~10 players: Jordan, Shaq, LBJ, Curry, Magic Johnson, Bird, (maybe Kobe) and some more.

From first each big region after Faker?
KR: Madlife. Single handedly made support cool and impactful.
CN: Uzi. Uncrowned King until his historic almost Golden Road.
EU: Xpeke. The first World Champ and was an EU powerhouse.
NA: Doublelift. NA's homegrown GOAT with 8 regional wins in 5 years.
I would think Caps or maybe even Jankos deserve it first from EU, but that might be recency bias.

I think without a doubt it is Uzi next, not only because he is bloody Uzi, but because I can't see them putting two T1 players after each other, and he truely helped drive the popularity if league in China
idk. Uzi never won any title except lpl. Bengi was named "the Jungle" and "gods right hand" . He was the best Jungler besides Diamondproxy. And for some time maybe the 2nd best player in the world.
I would even rate Smeb (one of the best toplaner ever), InSec or even Mata (he changed 2014 the support playstyle) over Uzi.
Uzi's legacy was always to lose against Faker, he was good, but he had never a chance to be on top. He didn't changed playstyles on his role, has no signiture moves or was the best in something besides playing Vayne. A great talent, but not the #2 or #3 on the HoF list.

Never played league but i know who faker is makes it all the more reason for him to be a hall of famer.
I know a lot of people dont know about him but Seiya from LLA was our local faker he was at some point the player with the most titles in league with like 13 or something like that (all regional of course) but he is such an inspiration for a lot of players in latin america!

The score esports should definitely create their own hall of fame for all of esports and run it like the mlb hall of fame with you get set number of years after your retire (or maybe turn 30) to be on the ballet and then accredited esports journalists are able to vote on who they think should get in and they’ll need 75% of journalists to believe that should be in. @@5with426 a Star Craft Brood War player. He plays Terran, the hardest race to play in that game, and had a 70% winrate in every matchup. He played Random in a tournament, and got Top 4. He broke multiple tournament ranking records, and for a while he was the top ranked player world wide for two of the three races.
Flash was truly something special. Not that Faker isn't truly special in his own right, but even amongst the GOATs of every game Flash is a standout.

For those as per the video complaining and questioning Riots decision to make Faker the first inductee let me just say this, I have never played LoL nor do I know anything about the scene, I am quite literally an outsider, but even I have heard of Faker and his accomplishments. I think it speaks A LOT about where he stands within that game and that community. He is quite literally a living legend within the larger esport community and his contributions go beyond the LoL scene.
Can't wait for TheBauffs to enter the hall for his role in redefining how riot has to program towers, takedowns, the way the minions work, TP, Sion's passive...

I hope they start with just Faker, but after that, I think it would make sense to release hall of famers for each region. Downside is that it will really wash away the impact of entering the hall of fame, but if we do just one each year, it will just be Korea-China bound year after year.

@Dermi_Sky i think one of the qualifications was 5 cumulative years in competetive LoL. Diamondprox might have that but i dont recall xpeke playjng that long
faker 1st, bengi 2nd and uzi 3rd. bengi is the only one (faker aside) that has 3x world champ. uzi should be 3rd. xpeke 4th
they gotta just add carlos, the old g2 manager in there and give us a g2 pyke skin just for how big he was as a figure in the eulcs and lec and due to the 2019 g2 pyke i keep coping about
there could be another faker but riot doesn't nurture the future pro players like they used too, its all changed now. so even if someone did have the talent the odds are they wont reach their potential in solo queue or make it out of the academy for a lengthy period of time. congratulations to faker though, he definitely deserves it

Honestly, the most iconic player in League after Faker would be Insec. His name is immortalized forever as a move. "He tried to Insec him!" it mentioned more than often. He made his name with a move that never been thought by anyone before, and it becomes the signature move of Lee Sin, the bare minimum of player to be allowed to say they're Lee Sin main.
I like the one per year format at least early, mostly because there isn't enough players in the 15 years to warrant classes like the nfl. 100+ years with over 50 on team including coaches. maybe the 3 per year format the nba has would be a good shout a little later.
If you have to pick one legendary player from each 4 major region (LCK, LPL, LEC, LCS) for the next set of inductees. Bengi for LCK, Uzi for LPL, Caps for LEC, and Doublelift for LCS. And please let Kkoma be one of HOL inductee next batch, he deserve it the most.

to be honest its really hard to actually say who else should be up there with Faker - he´s just an amazing player who in my opinion stands above everyone (not in terms of skill) - his name is pretty much synonymous with the game and esport to the point that even some players who have never touched LoL actually know who he is, there is no way that anyone should be introduced before him - maybe alongside him - sure, but other than that I think there even arent 20 players in history of league who actually deserve to be put in the same group as him - there are a lot of players who are very skilled or had an impact on the game or the community, but I dont think theres anyone who just did it all together - on the other hand I am not really versed in league of legends pros so I might be mistaken - to be honest I dont even know who could get in the hall of fame from western regions - I personally dont see a world where maybe Bjergsen for NA or Caps/Rekkless for EU but its really hard to say, I dont really think Doublelift should be there as in my opinion he got to stand out bcs of his trashtalking personality - which in general I am not really a fan of --> in all honesty I think if they want to have 20 players in that Hall of Legends - most of them will be from LPL and LCK
just for fun here´s my list of players that I would in some way consider potential candidates (feel free to comment your list) - disclaimer its not in specific order- Faker (obviously), UZI, Ambition, Showmaker, Chovy, Deft, Peanut, Rekkles, Caps, Bjergsen, Keria (potentially), Bengi, Gorilla, Shy, Doinb, Koma (i know hes a coach but I think he could actually make it in there) - its not 20 but I really cant think of anyone else - the reasoning why I put Rekless and Bjergsen there is bcs I think that they had pretty big impact even outside of their region, Caps as well but he was also much more domestically and internationaly successful and hes pretty consistent as well - with him G2 is for several years the best team in EU (except for the two back to back splits that MAD won)
Out of all the skins for Faker, the most iconic thing he’s ever done was on Zed, surely there’s gotta be a Zed skin!
Maybe Phreak can be next for his incredible skils in balancing the game.
I like how League is the only game where we will only argue over who is the second best at this point
I feel like riot is probably facing pressure from their orgs to be next, especially if there is money to be made from it. I feel like Mata or Keria would be contenders on support for instance. I wish they would take a few of the old guard next year and not worry too much about the orgs though, this isn't going to be a list only of the most wins I feel, but also a positive presence in the pro league scene. Id name one or more of the players from taipei assassins when they won worlds for instance.

I think the whole disagreement is based on the fact that one major thing wasn't put in onto the qualifications, being retired. That's being done in every major sport, is a celebration of a career, and doing that while it's not over feels odd. It also takes away from all the things that can and should be done for the Goat once he's actually retired
One thing you have to respect about Faker is that even though he's been considered the best to ever do it since basically the beginning and despite all of his accolades and achievements his ego has never became over inflated. He's always remained humble and genuine
It'll be hella hype if they add casters or streamers to the hall of legends

I think the main reason why ppl didnt want him to be the first is that everyone else entering after is just another name compared to him they should have done like a hall of fame class and had like 5 and revealed the first 4 with there own trailers and wait to reveal faker as the 5th inductee right until the induction happened giving it more hype and showing just how great he was when it came to everyone else. ppl are not arguing that he shouldnt be a 1st ballot more so it feels like a let down for the future of it
The game's been out for 15 years? Then there should've been 15 inductions, and then 1 for each year after that.
That just makes sense, I'd also understand if they 15 next year because then that'd just solidify that Faker's on and league of his own.
I think having faker vs a group induction makes sense purely because of how far out and ahead he is of the rest of the crowd. If the next few times they add a handful of players it wouldnt feel out of place, but having the first be him and him alone just makes sense.
It's probably due to marketing that Riot cannot introduce/add many player to hall of legend at the same time. It hard to hype up so many players at once. They have to make people want to buy these skin after all

obvious ones: xPeke (catchphrase and absolute EU mid legend(faker respected at a time)), Khan(Pro-League meta breaker and Top Icon), Keria (Best Support World(argued player world) and Icon), Caps(current face of EU)
Contenders: Elk(Icon and model for adcs), Doublelift/Bjergsen(Long faces for NA LCS).
Keep in mind this is off my head, but if I had to dig for your pro player of choice in the first place, they cant possibly be on hall of fame.
Whoever says he shouldn't be picked for HoF started League after his reign in 2018.
They never/didn't see the greatness that was 2015 and 2016 T1 and the almost triple time 2017 T1 winners.
While I see the arguments for waiting until Faker retires, I also think there is no one else to be the first pick in the Hall of Legends. Faker isn't just one of the best players of all time, he himself is a legend. Even before I started playing League of Legends many years ago, I knew about faker. I knew nothing about the game, nothing about the esport, but this one name was a reference that I understood
Faker is undoubtedly the first person in League of Legends, I think the next uzi will be a good choice, although he did not win the world championship, but Uzi's influence in the LPL and even the entire League of Legends is undoubted, to this day, many players in the LPL still idolize uzi, the uncrowned king Uzi

They're a few obvious choices for the EU players. One being YellowStar, one of the greatest shot callers and supports of all time in the West and one of the only players to have a perfect split in the West!
Faker for LoL is like Ronaldo and Messi for football, insanely long longevity in the sport, with mass titles and influence that knows no bounds, in other words bro has that dog in em
The only goat I’ve ever known to be as undisputed as Faker is Gretzky, and even NHL fans will give you the odd Orr or Lemieux vote.
But who can find that will nominate any other league player for goat with a straight face? He’s on the Kobe level of “his name is literally a verb now”
That said, I think it’s gotta be Uzi next. A regional rotation, I think would be ideal, removes the ranking/bias idea and ensures regions don’t feel left out. I’d do:

Caps
Bjerg/DL
Having a LoL HoF before Faker retires seems premature and inducting Faker before he retires is certainly premature. It comes across as a rush to set up a HoF. If they wanted to set it up now then induct a class of legends that aren't active pros like xPeke, InSec, SwordArt and Huni. If they want Faker to be the first then wait.
I love how Faker got first, but really after faker they should just add a bunch of other people next year and have Faker be the only truly special one for now
