South African Airways used to be banned from a lot of countries during apartheid, making travel to distant countries almost impossible, so somehow they acquired 747sp's, meaning less pax, more fuel, and longer range... allowing the access to those countries which did grant them entry.
5:00, is it accepted practise to engage reverse thrust before the aircraft has touched down? I thought the aircraft systems would prevent this. I suppose it helped to settle that A340 on to the runway sooner, therefore being safer than touching further along.
Old and inefficient...but cheap,to start an airline business with no up front investment is sometimes the only solution for small enterprises, and generally in Africa fuel cost less.Best regards.

Cool to see an old Emirates plane
This cannot be 1997, as airlines established in 2001& 2006 are present. Maybe it is a mix of clips from over the years.

@SamuelJamieArnoid Sometimes you'll see reverse thrust engaged as soon as the main landing gear make contact with the runway
