My goodness I was just starting High School in 1998 doesn't feel like a long time ago but when you see the footage it looks like it has been a long time 😯
1:35 oh, man.... That very same Swissair B747 was the one that brought me to U.S. soil (this JFK) from Zürich, on that very same year. I was an 11 y.o., but I can still remember it was a full daytime flight on summer, so Greenland was very visible and very green, viewed from 40,000ft above. Oh, and *"Titanic"* was playing onboard, so Kate Winslet's "beauty" imprinted forever in my head...
This video makes me go back in the past! The nostalgia of aviation to someone who loves airplanes is just beyond amazing I cannot put it into words the absolute nostalgia I’m feeling
Wow great video thanks for cheering me up today. I was at JFK in 1998. I flew on Concorde Supersonic. Speed Bird BA001 on Sunday 30th August 1998. Departed LHR at 1030AM GMT and landed at JFK at 0920AM local. 1350 MPH at 58000 FT faster than the rotation of the earth eating caviar and 10 year vintage French red wine. In 1998 the airfare cost approx AUD$10000 one way. I worked for Qantas and got a staff discount cost me AUD$1400.
Unfortunately, the exact same aircraft sits on the tarmac of the old greek intl airport and picking up rust....Glory days are over for it, long time ago. Google sx-oab Athens airport and see for yourself..
That was an age worth watching. That was when cheap flights was widely available for transatlantic routes. Still cant believe I got a return flight for £150 LHR-JFK. Best flight ever! Thanks for sharing
I love all those old birds! They all had character and were so different from each other. Seems like airports today, the planes are all similar looking.
Could watch this all day long. Brings me back at my age of 12 when I spent every free time at the airport and whatching these giants. Im proud to be someone who could see and enjoy such beautiful planes which are almost disapeared today 😥
I love that olympic 747 at 16:02, really gives out some sort of nostalgia! That specific unit (SX-OAB) is sitting “preserved” at the now closed down Ellinikon airport, I hope that it won’t be scrapped anytime soon..
I grew up in the 60's and 70's under an approach lane to Kennedy. We saw the first 747's SST's and L10-11's. We saw 727's, DC-3, DC-9, 727, BOAC DeHavillands, old props, you name it. We could name the aircraft by the sound of the engines. Another good game was each kid would pick an airline and we would count the numbers of each flying overhead. But you had to pick an obscure airline like Quantas or Air Lingus, not Pan Am or TWA. Thanks for bringing back the old memories.
0:07 First Plane takeoff. LTU German Airways. The BEST. GREAT food and service! Flew with them from LAX to Germany and back 1986. Duck A'LaOrange for dinner!
I flyed Varig and Vasp here in Brazil, so iconic airlines, but both went bankrupt, so sadness! About this plane video spotting: magic, awesome, classic, iconic, nostalgia speaking from the heights.
A time when airlines weren't upset with streamlining their fleets with twin jets! Tris & quads still heavily utilised! Also, love that glamorous Concorde entrance at the end.
I know... everything that has a beginning has an end, but be glad we have videos that preserve the memory of its existence, plus pre-covid and even pre-9/11 days 🙂
What a terrific look back, all those lovely 747s and 1011s, flew out of JFK only three times, AIR CANADA Vanguard, PANAM 747 and SWISSAIR 747-200. 10/10 well done.
I love, love, love seeing these older beauties, sure the newer ones are great, but there's just something majestic about, 4 engine jet aircraft.I've always liked the looks of the L-10-11, DC-10, DC-9, and DC 8.
16:02 Olympic Airways SX-OAB. The Olympic Eagle. The Bravo plane. I worked for Olympic catering (1989-1994) and they have 4 747's, The Bravo plane was over 30 years old then, It is sitting at the old Athens Airport supposedly to go into an aviation museum. I have know idea what the latest update is.
Yes, here at Budapest we still have a park full of old Malév jets and sadly a half scrapped Malév 767. HA-LHB was the only one that the airline firectley purchased from Boeing and at the ceasing of the airline it was half scralled and the unsold body of the plane still sits next to the control tower to this day😭😭
At the beginning with that KLM 747 brought me back to my childhood. It was my 1st flight. From Toronto to Amsterdam best thing was that it was in 1998 too
Lots of defunct or merged airlines... interesting how aviation has changed 20 years ago to the present... even liveries of most airlines changed and planes retired
Wow look all of the old AC. Amazing. I'm so glad I got to fly on four 747s, and one MD-11 before they retired them. My two favorite planes of all time. The MD-11 was with Delta, and all four 747's were with United Airlines.
Nice Job !!! My first time at JFK was in 1998, flying VASP MD11 from GRU, in the video at 11:24. During my stay in the city I went to Rockaway Beach several times to watch the takeoffs. Good times when the engines made more noise.
Massa, sou americano e o meu pai e baiano, ele se mudou para orlando jovem e trabalhou na Varign e transbrasil na florida. ele mexia no balanceamento dos 747, 777, dc10 e md11! Unfortunately, I never had a chance to fly in Varig. Golden times!
I used to live in Elmont right under the incoming flight path. Every Sunday, in good weather, my wife & I would sit out on the deck and "spin the wheels"
The very last clip of the AF Concorde landing and in the background the BA Concorde beginning its taxi is the only time I've seen two Concordes working in service at the same time in the same frame.
I'm absolutely with Gerard avoid watching meaningless and depressive news today they broadcast watch planes and airports especially the yesteryear's luckily we have these nice enjoyable videos which are pure pleasure. Sadly though these nice days are over.
The cause of the crash was that the In-flight entertainment cables overheated, cuz those people thought that they were already in the future, so they decided to not EVEN install a fuckin' anti-overheating system on the cables, BTW nowadays, airplanes specially the Boeing 747 have in-flight entertainment on-board on any class
Olympic at 16:02. Back when they still used their 747s. Now only one remains along with a 727 and a 737/200 in Hellinikon airport. They want to scrap them but someone is fighting against it. Those planes must be saved. They are the only thing remaining from the old days of glory from Olympic

Such a wonderful escape from the turmoil going on today. I would rather watch 30 minutes of plane action than 3 seconds of the news.
This ^
absolutely agree
Amen to that.
Absolutely
Absolutely agree!
I’m 71 and have had a fascination with planes since a toddler! This is great footage! Makes my day. Thanks so much.
I think my fascination with airplane ls is going to last a lifetime too.
I'm 18.
Back when...
707s, 727, 747s, 767, DC 10s, MD11s, L1011, A300, a310, MD80s and 90s
The oldies roam the skies
That's why my flight sim is stuck in 1994 🙂
What about Concorde that’s an amazing old plane that was new
when 3 engine and 4 engine aircraft still dominant
Hell yea!!! The sound of these aircraft has a song of its own and it whats makes them so special in compared to aircraft of the 21st century
..money for nothing and chicks for free ;)
4:55 BA’s classic livery has to be one of my all time favs, still looks just perfect
17:27 still flying 💪🏻
Great to see all the retro liveries. I worked for Air Canada in 1998. Takes me back to those days.
14:54 Twin Towers
Great Concorde footage. That last arrival clip of it landing - wow !
My goodness I was just starting High School in 1998 doesn't feel like a long time ago but when you see the footage it looks like it has been a long time 😯

It was also the first and only time I flew on Swissair, despite growing up in Switzerland! Also my first time in the upper deck of a 747.
Love the way the 767’s gear lifts off the grounds, really adds to the finesse of a smooth rotation.
This video makes me go back in the past! The nostalgia of aviation to someone who loves airplanes is just beyond amazing I cannot put it into words the absolute nostalgia I’m feeling
16:53 Concorde landing
17:55 and another one departing
@@aberreg 22:03 another one landing.

The beauty herself!
"The Checkered Flag is Mine!"
OMG! That Alitalia... 😍😍 what a great memory! I took the 747 “Baci” for my first trip to NY in Dec. 1998...❤️
Me too!!!on dec.1998!!😍
Me too!!!on dec.1998!!😍
One of my favorite planespotting videos. Such variety! What a time to be alive!

How I would have loved to fly on that Olympic airways 747 nonstop to Greece!
Unfortunately, the exact same aircraft sits on the tarmac of the old greek intl airport and picking up rust....Glory days are over for it, long time ago. Google sx-oab Athens airport and see for yourself..
I've been on it in late 1989 when I flew to Greece from Australia
Aeroflot 777-200er, i think it was looking wery modern in 1998 ❤
That was an age worth watching. That was when cheap flights was widely available for transatlantic routes. Still cant believe I got a return flight for £150 LHR-JFK. Best flight ever! Thanks for sharing
I always get this feeling in my stomach when I see a Boeing 747 ..... like WOW......how impressive and majestic
Yes indeed +The design still doesn't look outdated at all... Always the queen of skies ❤️
I love all those old birds! They all had character and were so different from each other. Seems like airports today, the planes are all similar looking.

OMG! Love the noise!!!!!!! They were very loud back in time.
The very end of the “golden age” of commercial aviation.
This video is an instant like
07:35 miss that old livery and beauty of DC10 of Biman. We used to fly direct from DAC to JFK.
The plane at 0:53, Delta still has in service. It’s 30 years old born 1990. I looked up the registration in flightradar and it came up
12:41 for my Indian brothers🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

thanks for this nostalgic video JP,loved every minute of it especially the mighty Concorde takeoff and landing near the end.great job as usual.
Such a cool video! So many airlines and plane types that no longer exist. I love my home airport!

11:24 Vasp, from Brasil!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷

Seeing twin jetted planes bore me so much..
Loved the RJ 707 cargo!
They are so beautiful, those jt3 engines are amazing, love the thin shape
11:56 KLM Boeing 747. 😢. Soo sad that KLM doesn't fly the 747 anymore.
I know... everything that has a beginning has an end, but be glad we have videos that preserve the memory of its existence, plus pre-covid and even pre-9/11 days 🙂

I love that of all the Swissair 111 comments, none of them is asking what Swissair 111 is. Truly my people.
Times were innocent back then, when all these such iconic planes were still in the skies!
Looking at MALEV’s livery , we can easily say that they “paved the way” for today’s liveries.
And the qantas one
Yes, here at Budapest we still have a park full of old Malév jets and sadly a half scrapped Malév 767. HA-LHB was the only one that the airline firectley purchased from Boeing and at the ceasing of the airline it was half scralled and the unsold body of the plane still sits next to the control tower to this day😭😭
You mean , no cheat line along the windows?
Blue nose...such a great livery. R.I.P Malév.
N704CK pictured at 16:21 was involved in a runway overrun in 2008 operating as Kalitta flight 207
A golden era of aviation
Ah the days when those beautiful old aircraft like the 747-200s, 767s and even Concordes roamed the skies. Beautiful.
At the beginning with that KLM 747 brought me back to my childhood. It was my 1st flight. From Toronto to Amsterdam best thing was that it was in 1998 too
The special Baci blue Alitalia 747 has to be my favourite
TWA 727 looks amazing
Iberia's 747 what a memory
The classic Air India livery! 😍😍😍
0:12 Malév Hungarian Airlines flight 91 from JFK to Budapest took it many times too bad the airline no longer exists. 😔
Lots of defunct or merged airlines... interesting how aviation has changed 20 years ago to the present... even liveries of most airlines changed and planes retired
that feeling when you start thinking about it, as this was 1/4 century ago, unbelievable how world change since
Wow look all of the old AC. Amazing. I'm so glad I got to fly on four 747s, and one MD-11 before they retired them. My two favorite planes of all time. The MD-11 was with Delta, and all four 747's were with United Airlines.
I loved watching planes fly by my house in Locust Manor, Queens, NY
Nice Job !!! My first time at JFK was in 1998, flying VASP MD11 from GRU, in the video at 11:24. During my stay in the city I went to Rockaway Beach several times to watch the takeoffs. Good times when the engines made more noise.
Unfortunately, I never had a chance to fly in Varig. Golden times!
Tho I wish I could go back to airports back then.... today, all you see are 737s and a320s lol
I loved that Boeing 747 and Md-11 which they share their own GE engines together
Won't ever have good flying days like these!
Amazing. Already in 1998 there were spottings.
Those 747s are gorgeous.
Great action & trimendous power in these engines to take them up into the sky,-- Very enjoyable thank you
Great 👍 footage of the concord wow 😮 amazing ❤
I used to live in Elmont right under the incoming flight path. Every Sunday, in good weather, my wife & I would sit out on the deck and "spin the wheels"
Yeah, me too... in the 1960's. Near Hempstead Turnpike. On foggy nights they sometimes came in pretty danged low. Exciting for a 10 yr. old kid.
I love your vídeos, they take me to better times....thanks!
Great video. It’s amazing how many airlines that are in that video are no longer with us today. Aircraft types too.
N703CK at 16:29, the one rented for Harrison Ford’s Air Force One movie.
The three and four holes never fail to impress me.. :) love it. Absolutely fantastic video...🤟
The very last clip of the AF Concorde landing and in the background the BA Concorde beginning its taxi is the only time I've seen two Concordes working in service at the same time in the same frame.
11:23 Viaje Bem, Viaje VASP
🇧🇷💚💛💙
I love the spotting it better old days
I came to the United states in 1986 .
The plane was a 737 (Vasp).
It's been almost 35 years!
According to the site Jetphotos, Omni Air at 9:41 was supposedly the last DC-10 ever made.
thats a boeing 727, not a dc10
Thanks for posting this video memory back then tell now thanks
I'm absolutely with Gerard avoid watching meaningless and depressive news today they broadcast watch planes and airports especially the yesteryear's luckily we have these nice enjoyable videos which are pure pleasure. Sadly though these nice days are over.
The best of the best, thanks for sharing
Concorde, Truly Iconic and really missed by Aviation Spotters.
This was truly amazing loved it ...couldwatch all day thanku so much love and god bless x
Wendy, pay attention to this, at 15:31 the MD 11 on our side is SwissAir flight 111, IT CRASHED OVER THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
@@alexx_mendezz my goodness so sorry when.did that happen x
@@alexx_mendezz my heartfelt condolences to family an friends rip x
Yeah 229 people died, it was the worst air disaster in 1998
The cause of the crash was that the In-flight entertainment cables overheated, cuz those people thought that they were already in the future, so they decided to not EVEN install a fuckin' anti-overheating system on the cables, BTW nowadays, airplanes specially the Boeing 747 have in-flight entertainment on-board on any class
AF Concorde taking off at 18:00
22:32 The iconic Concorde Delta Swirls! Too sick!
Amazing plane spotting
The good ol 90s
I wish I grew up back then. Growing up now sucks ass ngl :/
The golden era 💛
Loved seeing Foxy @ 2:28
WOW!! The Nostalgia 👌
so nice to see concorde and 747-300 again!
Aviation was so fun and interesting pre-911. JFK airport had the most concord traffic of any airport in the world.
Olympic at 16:02. Back when they still used their 747s. Now only one remains along with a 727 and a 737/200 in Hellinikon airport. They want to scrap them but someone is fighting against it. Those planes must be saved. They are the only thing remaining from the old days of glory from Olympic
Oh man, so they're still there.
15:32 Swissair ❤️✈️
I wished this variety still existed in today's world!
Very nice footage. Landing the Concorde seems to have been quite a thing. High speed, high nose-up angle prior to touchdown, and no flaring.
Terrific video!! It's to bad Pan Am was long gone by that time. Sure would have loved to see some quality video of a 747 Clipper!!
22:03 Fantastic!
15:39 makes you think of that one Swissair MD-11 that never made it to Geneva that same year
Doesn't get better than Concorde's presence❤
LTU TriStar, Malev 767-200 and KLM 747-300 - and that's just the first three!
Malév B767-200ER.
