The Best Motorcycle Ride In Texas : Three (Twisted) Sisters & Hill Country Roads

  • Опубликовано: 26 апр 2017
  • A four day motorcycle ride to the Texas Hill Country proves enjoyable and hilarious as Clif, Matt, and I tackle the Three Sisters and other roads in the area. Along the way, we make a jaunt to the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum, and have lunch at the famous Apple Store in Medina, Texas. It's three days of motorcycles and buffoonery in 20 minutes.
    Theme music composed and performed by Tim Kreitz.

    NOTE: If you came to this comment section to leave a snotty, abusive, or threatening post about how mind-blowingly awesome your Polaris Slingshot is and what a bunch of ill-informed jerks Matt, Clif, and I are for poking a little fun at them, save your time and energy. Comments have been set to approval on this video since early 2017. You shouldn't care in the slightest about what three knuckleheads on the side of the road think of your favorite toy.

    Fantastic video showcasing some interesting TX country.
    It's really cool that the older crowd still gets out there to ride.
    That's a lot of slingshots!!! Wow!
    Hahaha...the guy in his underwear! I love his no-care attitude!
    Your music selection was so perfect for this.
    Wow, beautiful sunset & seeing the flag flying...so awesome.
    Nice spot at the end.

    There's nothing quite as beautiful as hill country. Man, when you go to Austin from Midland and you hit San Angelo it'll start to green up, and then you once you pass Eden it'll just be awesome. Especially right now with the wild flowers.

    • @TimKreitzAdventures
      @TimKreitzAdventures  7 лет назад

      Yep, definitely. The wildflowers were not as prevalent this year, but it was still beautiful down there.

    My God you made me homesick for Texas.

    • @TimKreitzAdventures
      @TimKreitzAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Well, don't feel too bad. Over the past several years, millions of people who are not native Texans have moved here, which has had a significant negative impact on traditional Texas culture. It's also a lot more crowded than it used to be. Here's hoping we survive it all intact, and that the rust-belters and Californians decide to go home soon.

    I liked San Angelo when I lived in Texas. It's just enough removed from the bigger cities to feel small and town-like. No Interstates to get there, all highways. A perfect blend of West Texas and the Deep South.
    Great video, loved the exploration and the way it all came together. Nicely done B-)

    • @TimKreitzAdventures
      @TimKreitzAdventures  7 лет назад +2

      Very much agreed about San Angelo. I've often thought of moving back there someday. It's one of the best-kept secrets in Texas. Cheers and thanks as always, sir. I always appreciate your commentary. =]

    • @ENn0ble
      @ENn0ble 5 лет назад

      Got to agree with you on some of your points there. San Angelo is definitely the ideal blend of small town life spread over a fairly large area. As someone who lived there for the duration of my training at Goodfellow, I can say it’s ideal riding country, especially some of the canyon roads north of the city. Might be planning a trip back down one of these days, only wondering whether fall or spring is better for that type of ride.

    Hey Tim thanks for the video. I am from San Angelo as well. My Dad was an Operator at the water plant that you filmed. He used to take me fishing right there next to the Lone Wolf dam. You guys obviously know how to have fun on the road, and it was great to see you off the flat country for a change. I laughed a little at the irony of a Castle, with 2' thick rock walls, protected by a wire fence, LOL.
    Those 3 wheelers... yeah, nah! (as they say here in Oz).
    Gotta love a motorcycle museum, even without the pies, I guess...

This is one of our regular weekend rides, and I enjoyed seeing it through your eyes. We're going on a breakfast ride this Sunday. I think I'll suggest a ride to Medina to eat at the Apple Store. One of these days, I should ride to Midland to have breakfast with you and pick your brain about these wonderful videos. How do you get such good sound when you're having a conversation with your friends?

      Thanks a million, as always, Pat. The next time you are riding through West Texas, keep me updated as to your schedule and we'll definitely make that get-together happen. I'd enjoy it very much. To answer your question, I spend as much time on audio as I do anything else. I use an omni-directional lav mic and do volume swelling and noise reduction in post (when necessary). I also do a fair amount of audio editing to take out silly things I said without having to cut footage. That was the case during the Slingshot parade, where I replaced the comments I didn't want on video with repeated ambient audio of the cars passing.

    The biggest reason the slingshot works with the 3 wheels is so that it doesn't have to follow federal regulations for safety equipment(adding weight) in an automobile. No crash bumpers, no airbags, etc. It's the closest most of us would ever get to an Arial Atom.

    • @TimKreitzAdventures

      @@TimKreitzAdventures I rode the sisters on my HOG, may have been the year after you posted, just a great part of TX to be in for sure. My wife and I are leading a small group of Mini Coopers down there this coming April, so I was looking for some ideas, so again, thx for the video. Of course, there are a lot of breweries and wineries down there as well as some good roads, I've even done an off-roading wine tour where we travelled across country to join the venues. So much to do and see, it's definitely a hidden gem for anyone who hasn't been down to the Hill Country.

    Planned a trip to Big Bend National Park in 1986 looked on the map and fm 337 looked interesting took it on the way to Del Rio was blown away there were no motorcycles on it or a car or truck for miles there were no names for these roads I knew right then and there this secret wouldnt last forever. Came back to the big city and raved about these roads and nobody would go with me said it was too far to ride 300 miles to ride some roads in the Texas Hill country. How things have changed now the sisters are considered by many a top 10 ride in America and its crowded compared to back then.

    Damn nice riding there; too bad it would take me about three days just to get there, I'd love to see it! Had a weird experience up in PA a while back; going up a nice hilly two-lane, saw a Can-Am Spyder going the other way, followed by about two dozen more; strange sight! Cool museum; if you get over to NC, you have to check out Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley. Some of the bikes there are the only known existing ones of their kind, and they all run! I took a pic of a 1911 belt-drive Harley, and not five minutes later Dale Walksler fired it up and rode it outside!

    The western third or so is currently closed due to floods and damaged bridges.
    Also, the term you are looking for is “sight limit” or something similar. Vanishing point is a term from art indicating where two lines seem to come together, such as railroad tracks do in the distance.

    • @oklahomahank2378

      vanishing point noun
      Definition of vanishing point
      1 : a point at which receding parallel lines seem to meet when represented in linear perspective
      2 : a point at which something disappears or ceases to exist
      I suppose a word can mean whatever you want. But this attempt to create a new meaning seems off to me.
      Notice you have to explain what you mean by the term; it is not obvious.
      What exactly is “vanishing” in this usage? Nothing. “Sight limit” or “limit of sight” is clear and does not have to be explained, which is better.

    • @TimKreitzAdventures
      @TimKreitzAdventures  5 лет назад

      That's how we always taught it when I was a riding instructor. But I'm sure it was originally derived from the geometrical term and then appropriated into riding theory with its slightly different definition.

    • @oklahomahank2378
      @oklahomahank2378 5 лет назад +1

      Tim Kreitz Adventures That’s how words change their meaning over time. Someone hears a word and thinks it sounds great or misunderstands it. Nothing wrong with that if it is useful. That’s how “literally” came to mean “not literally.”

    Hey Tim, which direction should I hit the three sisters route from for the best views? Thanks

    • @TimKreitzAdventures
      @TimKreitzAdventures  5 лет назад

      If you want the best chance to see all the views, I'd plan to spend two days there. Ride it clockwise the first day and counter-clockwise the second (or vice versa). If I only have time to ride them once, I usually go clockwise (but that's more about ride preference and less about views). The entire loop is about 100 miles, so you could do both directions completely in a single day, though you'd be in a bit of a hurry. There are lots of photo opportunities, so take your time and stop often. If you stay somewhere such as Leakey, you can enjoy some of the other roads and popular nearby spots as well. Have fun.

    Nice trip, Tim. I ride those roads myself when I can. Usually with Amy my wiener dog riding along in a backpack. LOL I was in that video. I was in a slingshot wearing the batman helmet. You can't have a 4th wheel because then it will be classified as a car and then it has to have airbags, crash testing blah blah blah... and then the price goes WAY up. I've been riding street bikes since I was 16. Because of a hip issue, riding bikes hurts too much even on short rides.
