    I live in Utopia and everyone comes to ride the Sisters, but no one knows about the 3 Brothers. It's 55 up to Rocksprings from Camp Wood, or you can get to Rocksprings from 41 off 10. Take 377 west out of town, then take 674 down to Bracketville to 334. Take 334 back over to 55. There you can decide to go back over to Leakey or go back up to Rocksprings or take 335 up to 41. It's about 100 miles around, so make sure you top off in Rocksprings or Bracketville or Camp Wood.

    After obtaining my first motorcycle while living in Alvin area, I quickly headed to the 3 Twisted Sisters, and moved there just to experience the motorcycling on a regular basis. After exploring hill country from Fredericksburg, Kerrville on down to Uvalde, I went further west into Alpine, Balmorhea, on down to Ft Davis and Terlingua. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL country, and such a huge blessing to experience while cutting teeth motorcycling.

    Just recently went from Houston to ride the three twisted sisters, and I learned a couple of things that I probably should have known already. Verizon has no coverage and that entire area and I was not smart enough to download my Google maps ahead of time! Gas stations are few and far between, so I should have taken my little emergency fuel tank just in case. Also small towns closed down at 5:00 p.m. which I should have remembered having come from a small town but I've been a city boy now for a long time and I totally forgot! Even so, it was a fantastic ride and I can't wait to go back

    Me and a group of car friends went to Twisted Sisters multiple times. The roads are challenging and can be void of traffic at times. Once everything is properly executed, the trip could always be fun. I strongly advise you guys to expect poor cellular service, lose gravel/ fallen rocks, and avoid driving at night. Reason why I point out the night part is last year, we trekked on Route 337 to see the Milky Way until we experienced complete darkness with fog. We headed west to Camp Wood cautiously thru the hills, which I remember it was almost like something from Slender Man and NFS Carbon.

    I’d also recommend TX-159 between Bellville and Fayetteville. Another suggestion that’s outside the box is Loop 610 in Houston. It’s about 40 miles. You have to do it Sunday morning to avoid traffic but it’s actually a really nice motorcycle ride that takes you over the ship channel, past NRG , and the Galleria with plenty of turns and hills.

    Head south out of Granbury to Paluxy then follow 51 to 67. Ride east towards Glen Rose and turn right on 203. Take 203 to Walnut Springs and then right to Iredell on 297. Then 1238 to 219 then 1602 to Hico. Finally, take 281 to Stephenville where I usually stop for BBQ at the original Hard Eight. 51 is very twisty with elevation changes and 203 is long sweeping turns with some short stretches of straights.

    455 is OK but 697... while short, there are a lot of fun ways to get there.
    697 has actual twisties, and more elevation changes.
    I call it My New Hope to Sherman Run. It's not one continuous run. But it ends on 697, all warmed up and ready to test the side of my tires.
    I then have some food, and head back home on 455.

      697 is bumpy in places. Have fun.@@throttletube

    • @ori2425
      @ori2425 4 месяца назад +1

      @throttletube 455 isn't that boring, it has its spots, they are just spread out a bit. Also I would say 455 is a worse road than 697 (although if you starting 697 from 69 going north the first 1/2 mile is wavy, shady asphalt, be a little lightfooted) as in bumps, and bad road in general. Especially if you're going east, only do 455 going west, the road is much worse going east.
      I generally start at New hope and snake my way up starting on 1827 from 380. Make a left on 545, that's actually where my favorite set of turns are, quick left, right, left. Pass the stanky horse farm to 5. From 5 make a right on 4th and quick left on Houston (2862). Make a left on 3133.
      Right on 5 again, then right on 121. Left at 2729, then a right in 11. Left on 69 (nice), then a
      the left to finish the ride on 697. Get to Sherman for breakfast/lunch at Sweetberries. Head back down 75, make a right on 455, take that to Aubrey where I live. It's not the three sisters or brothers, but it does the job. There are also a lot of variations to that trip. Pretty good roads to the east of that as well. Just gonna have to ride some to get there.
      Mostly ridden on Triumph Trident 660, now a Ducati SFV2. Fun ride either way.
      Also, around and to the west of Lake Ray Roberts is some really nice cruising runs, with some nice scenery. Beautiful horse ranches and rolling hills.

      677 is closed for bridge repair south of Capps Corner. Only local traffic. Unless you don’t mind going on dirt or crushed rock roads for miles to go around. But will be a great road again once it’s opened back up. Take that up to the old Indian bridge for a nice view of the river.

    Thanks Seth... yeah, you hit em all buddy!
    Spring is the best time for these rides before the summer heat. Otherwise get up by dawn and out by sunrise, while it's still a bit cool in the early mornings.
    The comment about 455 is correct. There is so much residential development around the DFW area right now, that congestion will be more the rule rather than the exception.
    It appears that all the money coming out of the failing markets, is going into residential real estate.
    Prior to this we would see developments start and then stop for several years due to lack of borrowing, planning, and investment liquidity.
    That has all now changed. 🤔🙈

    390 and 1948 make a good short loop if you in the area around Somerville. Little restaurant called Texas Steak and Seafood (I think) is really good don't let the appearance fool you, menu selection and food is surprising
    390 over to 105 ain't bad

    So many better roads off 455! It’s called “North Texas Hill Country”. 902, 922, 51, 1816, 677 and more. Greta video!!

    Left out a lot of good blacktop in East Texas. The hill country is beautiful for sure but there is definitely more to riding Texas than that.

    I stayed warm in Raymondville TX for the winter, getting itchy sneakers and will be heading north soon to ride the sisters. I heard there was a hotel in that area for motorcycles. Do you know about it?

  • @oychoppa
    @oychoppa 4 месяца назад +1

    Nah, the #1 road in Texas is FM170 that you have at #3. The twisted sisters make for a nice hill country ride, but 170 is literally running through the west Texas mountains along the Rio Grande. To me, anything in Big Bend country makes anything in the Texas Hill Country feel down right boring! I’ve ridden them all BTW.

    • @GreatMotorcycleRoads
      @GreatMotorcycleRoads  4 месяца назад +2

      Right on! We weren’t necessarily ranking in order just listing them out. Agreed 170 is a bit further out to get to but totally worth it

    • @oychoppa
      @oychoppa 4 месяца назад +1

      Yes!!! And being that the Big Bend area is harder to get to, it makes it more enjoyable due to literally zero traffic. I ride more performance oriented motorcycles, meaning non-vtwin cruisers, and you typically wont be able to maintain a spirited trek on twisty roads in the hill country. Just too many Harley’s out there.

      @@oychoppa I cannot count how many rides I've had spoiled by the Harley crowd. Bless their hearts, I'm glad they're out riding, but, holy cow.... man.... they would benefit from a day at a Lee Parks course.
