This is a great tester to have! It's extremely easy to use, just clip it on, enter the information from the sticker right on your battery, and it goes right to work. Test completes in just a few seconds!
For a car battery for example, you can enter the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) right from the sticker, and it will test your battery and show you what your battery can actually put out. The tester works with all different kinds of batteries, including Marine, Flooded, Gel, Absorbed Glass Mat, and Deep Cycle batteries. Tests 12 volt batteries.
Instructions are in plain English, very easy to understand, should you even need them. The LCD display on the tester is backlit and very readable, so really at a glance, you can get the condition of your battery!
In addition, it also has a data collection function; you can hook this up to your computer and get the data it has collected about the condition of your battery for further analysis.

Great little gadget. Batteries don’t lasts as long now because of all the power equipment in modern cars. Day time running lights alone will shorten your battery life by at least a few months. Your alternator will have to work harder to provide extra power to your multifunction display, cell phone chargers and radar and other safety equipment.

You are absolutely correct on all of those points. But that's only half the story. Batteries are junk today, even when put in older vehicles that don't have all that malarkey. They'll only last 3-4 years, 5 if you're extremely lucky. I used to have car batteries last 9 years.

You can also use a tester like that to test ups batteries. That's how I also use mine.

There's no real need to test them, they're always dead! That's been my experience.
