    Richard, we'd love to see an update on your pool. How you're managing it and some of the unexpected hurdles you're overcoming. Love your channel. Your work smart attitude has really influenced me in my projects in my own backyard.

    Thanks for the info. I’m a little disappointed you skipped over the wall collapse. It seemed like a good teachable moment. What did you do differently the second time around? What was the problem the first time?

    • @flairmaister
      @flairmaister Год назад +6

      Yeah it would have been good to include that. Problem was rain not drained away from the cavity between the ground and the wall, AIUI. The way to fix is to make sure the water doesn't flow in there, so catch it in a separate drain around the hole, or cover in a way that it won't flow there but in the swim section, instead. Also it's good to work in a time where you have smaller amounts of precipitation, like early spring.

    It all turned out so beautiful, not only the pond, but also the buildings in the new paint.

    I'm thinking of creating a dammed pond in a small gully in NZ so lots of good ideas here, thanks. I hope to use bagged biochar in my system to help pull/recycle nutrients. This has proven v.successful in other natural ponds in NZ.

    Awesome project!! Do I see correctly that you didn't use a concrete base for the brick walls? If that isn't needed, that's a great way to save some time and money on the build. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Richard, we're building a natural duck pond at the moment (bigger than it sounds), but our soil doesn't hold the water. I watched your video, but couldn't quite catch the names of the underliner and liner that you used? We live in Norway, maybe you have tips for a good (under)liner? I thought you said something geo liner ? 1mm thick. Would be helpful to know more about the ones you used! Thanks! :)

    Solid! Insulation is such that the pool isn’t too cold to swim in? I’m thinking about doing the same thing, but 25m long, with walls for flip turns.

    • @flairmaister
      @flairmaister Год назад

      I think it's debatable and depending on location. Where I live the deeper ground is usually warmer in winter than the surface. It may warm up quicker in summer though. I'm doing mine with PIR sandwich panels as the walls, but mostly to save cost and time. The insulation is an added bonus. I'm not insulating the sand floor.

    It seems that they did not use a foundation under the brick wall. That is going to be a big problem and potentialy dangerous. Never the less, this is an inspirational video.

    Can this be made without the concrete block wall? It seems to take the natural out of the natural pool?

    I would like to build this, but I would not hide any large rocks under the water level. someone WILL die, diving into a rock. it will probably happen at night, with visitors, after a couple of beverages.

      Once the aquatic plants begin to filter impurities and pull nutrients from the pond I imagine the water quality will remain pretty clear.
