One Man Diy swimming/ Recreation Pond Build in our front yard About 4 Months to Build Natural Filtration, similar to Aquascapes using a Bog filter, plants and no chemicals
All in all, I think you have done an incredible job! I'm saying this after 40 years of experience in traditional and natural architecture, including natural pools, ponds and riparian design scapes. I could do without all the unessary plastics and liners, which will degrade quicker than most people think breaking down into more micor plastics in our ecology, but with your clay soils, the natural "gleying" that will take place should leave you with no issues at all. For a first project, I can't believe what you have pulled off. I hope you consider doing this as a side profession, as your style and skill warrant professional recognition. WELL DONE!
@@JayCWhiteCloud thanks for the kind words, this is actually my 2nd pond build. Definitely learned a few lessons on the 1st and a few more on this one.
Great job.. I like how you made a wading area for people to just walk around the pond and kick their feet in the water to me that makes or brakes a rec pond.
Your engineering is premium! Early on I had no clue what you were doing but if I weren't 2000 miles away, I would have come and taken a few scoops with the 988 Cat to help you along! At 16 tons a scoop she'll move some earth.
You did an amazing job! It’s very inviting! I love all the levels and the waterfall. I’m sure your family will enjoy this swimming hole for years to come! Great job!
That little tractor done well wish we could do that in the uk the paper work from the local council would be at lead 2 years and probably rejected under some crappy rule well done my friend enjoy your freedom
As a positive note, I would suggest looking into it. This qualifies as a "natural pool," and the restrictions on those are being changed all the time, even in the U.K., where wildlife habitat creation and protection is huge. There are a few companies there now specializing in it, and getting the documents through planning councils is getting less cumbersome for this style of natural and sustainable landscaping...
I’m in the process of building a 20x32 rec pond myself. I’ve been planning to build the regeneration zone insitu. The systems are expensive so I’ve been trying to engineer it using different materials. I’m glad I came across your video because storm water piping and plastic pallets were the option I’ve been flirting with. I’m going with it. Great build man.
Nice! Yes plastic pallets, corrugated double wall pipe and the barrels at the end are for access to clean it out if I ever need to. The barrels were used for pickles… got em on marketplace
Very nice pool build, great job. Do you have or had any thoughts regarding the rocks falling or tumbling down? As I only see you stacking them. Or are the sides sloped enough and the rocks too heavy for anyone to accidentally dislodge them?
Love what you have done, great job. Only concern is what happens if the liner ever splits or punctures, kids will be kids. I think I would have gone with clay instead, to make it more serviceable.
Certainly a risk! However, its 60 mil epdm… very tough to puncture, plus a thick geotextile underlayment on both sides of the liner. Then to even get to the liner you have to go through the rock. Clay would never look as clear as this pond looks now and it will inky get clearer in another year. We have an 8 acre clay lake in our back yard, looks good but not even close to this!
I used 3 3hp variable speed pumps “chlorworks” brand but I think several companies sell the same one including “blue works” all on amazon. Intake bay is on the far side for most of the video and the pumps are about 20’ away from there out of the water. 2 pumps feed the bog/waterfall and one for jets. Ill try and add another video showing details soon.
That turned out awesome. Small world, stumbled on your vid researching for a build. We're over in Rapidan. Pricing liners and rock has me reconsidering the size and layout. What is the overall depth? Thanks
I know I went a little wild on this one. 1st one I did for our airbnb rental (silo/barn house) was 1/3 the size and still plenty big… that one was roughly 25-30’ long and wide and 6.5 deep. This one is 8’ when full. Shenandoah stone in Culpepper is where I got this stone. Had a guy with a dump truck delivering everything as I needed it
This pond is huge, so it was pretty expensive… about 40k. The last one i built half the size was closer to 20k. Pond liner being about 10k for this pond and bog (2 liners). The next most expensive part was the stone… about 250 Tons of it. Ill try to add more info to the description soon.
@@mikeofalltradez so I have never done something like this before but I am starting to understand it through many videos, through all the pond liners you use and connect them and everything, are you using double sided seam tape to tape the liners together and how do you go about preventing water from getting between the seams between all the connected liners and everything, also the trash cans you used, what did you put in them, just you just run piping out to hook up to a pump to run water into them and fill them, also between the pond itself and the trash can settup for the waterfall, how do you recirculate the water between the pond and the trash cans so your not filling the pond up over the full mark, also about rain how do you stop the pond from running over the top and into your landscape? I am interested in this, the design and everything seems realistic for me but the piping, pumps you used and than the seam connecting and recirculating water between the pond to the waterfall trash can settup, and also how to prevent the pond from going over the top from heavy rain, im interested in learning these details so when I do it I’m not going to mess things up. The piping you ran out from the trash cans, what exactly did that piping run to and did you run anymore piping to the pond itself for like recirculating purposes or cleaning and all, id love to know these details for my own sake.
Dude, that is the best single man project I’ve seen on you tube.
You inspire me…. Great great work.
Wow! Thank you man, huge compliment!

ONE MAN BEAST, awsome build man
Thanks man! Many tough days, but we are loving it now!
WOW .... just WOW!
Great job! The stonework especially…should last a long time! In 30 years your grandkids will love it!
@@greenspiritarts oh man I really hope so! Thanks so much!
wow, great job!... speechless.
Michael got ripped had justification for buying the tractor and built a bad ass pond! Congrats looks great.
Finally someone gets me! Haha thanks

Thanks for the kind words, the kids love that area and depending on the water level an Adirondack chair is perfect too
Respect! Hard and heavy work, but look at the result I love it. I hope you enjoy it for a long time 👍👍
I hope so too!
Obdivuhodný výkon samostatné práce . Navrhuji Nobelovu cenu za obrovské úsilí . 👍👍👍🦾🦾🦾
What an awesome job.
Thank you!
absolutely amazing video, absolutely amazing build, it really is just ABSOLUTELY AMAZING WHAT YOU DID!!!

Oh man! I could have used that! Thought about renting or borrowing something bigger, but I own the little B26 Kubota so I just slowly plugged away
Hard work pays off

Thank you so much!
Amazing. Great job. Hope your family enjoys it! And the tractor proves its worth.
Thank you, loving it this summer!
Looks like something out of the Flintstones, super sick:)
Haha I had a delivery guy say the same thing
Insane beautiful lake! I like the idea of small bays around the lake. It makes it more natural looking. Good job! Enjoy!

Thanks, the hard work pays off!
I'm Impressed.
Awesome hard work 👍🏼
Fantastic work
incredible, that awesome bro
Great job!
Thanks!
Love it!
Stunning
Thank you! 😊
👏👏👏🙏🙏 amazing job.

Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
In my country you have to be very rich to use that much water. It would cost me a fortune😅in the summer heat I want to be rich more than ever😂
Hell yeah!!!!!!
So friggen sweet

@@mikeofalltradez That’s flat roofing grade, wow. That must have cost several thousand for a liner of that size and must have been crazy heavy.
Looks amazing , mosquito 🦟 heaven 😂
Believe it or not, no mosquitoes! The dragon flys and other critters the pond attracts eat mosquitoes who cant lay eggs in the moving water anyway!
Friends don’t let friends drive orange tractors!
Very beautiful creation you’ve made, be extremely proud of yourself as you deserve it and enjoy the fruits of your labour
Thanks so much, have to try and remind myself to be proud sometimes, but Ive never felt more proud than watching my kids enjoy it!
What pumps did you use and where did you put them? Where is the intake? looks great!

Here is a man who got tired to mow the lawn ...😅
How many hours/days did it take from start to finish? Amazing job!
About 4.5 months, worked most days if I was home
Wow beautiful man. Did you use cement for the walls of the boulders?
No, theres a slight slope back on all walls

Voted for president
Where’d you find all those beautiful boulders?
Unfortunately had to buy all of them! 18 Tons at a time… about 250 Tons in all. Theres a quarry near us called Shenandoah Stone in Culpepper Va
Très beau projet mais où sont passés les traductions des autres commentaires ?
Amazing, where's your help?
Unfortunately they’re not grown up yet! Hopefully the kids can help with the next big project
Lot of work just so you can get a crocodile ;)
Thankfully no crocs anywhere near Virginia!
No over flow for when it rains ?
Over flow and intake bay were built towards the end.
How much did it cost and all the material list please, I am interested in doing something like this myself.

Is here a bog filter or pump?
Both. The pumps move the water up a slight incline to the bog which overflows to the water falls
Couldn’t watch the video! Music is too annoying!
Sorry didn’t write the music, just built the pond and thought id share it
"one man" uses 1000 horse power machine.
24 hp tractor, sorry your not impressed😢
@@mikeofalltradez it looks beautiful
If the man used a single spade, you’d complain he didn’t use his hands.
@@TheHappinessOfThePursuit you missed the point. BTW a shovel is still one man power, so what are you talking about.
Maybe 30 horsepower, not 1000ph
Unwatchable the music junked another video 👎👎👎💩💩😬
your loss. Pretty rad pond.
Strange the other 37k people didn’t mind, must be you!
