- CSX trains and Amtrak cross a busy railway diamond interlocking. Train horns blaring and the awesome sounds of the diamond getting slammed by heavy trains! Viewed from the railfan viewing platform in Plant City Florida with Millenniumforce and JawTooth in April 2017. Great bunch of catches there old pal! Actually its the S Line for the Seaboard Air Line (SAL). They merged with the ACL in 1968 to form the Seaboard Coast Line (SCL). Seaboard Air Line took over the Plant System (of Henry Plant fame) in the late 1800s. Love that SD40-2 up front! Cheers, Dan

Oh yeah, me too! And I've lived here all my life. I eventually decided that I would remember that the A line comes down the Atlantic coast before going over towards Tampa. Then I remember that's why they called it the Atlantic Coast Line. Go figure.

Thought you'd like to know, Jaw, that the single track in Plant City is the old Coast Line tracks and the double tracks was the Seaboard. They merged in 1967. The Silver Meteor ran on the old Seaboard tracks. Rode it many times through there. That curve you saw there is where the old Seaboard started heading north to NYC. But, it did head east from Baldwin to Jacksonville for a few miles. The other end went to Tampa/St.Pete. The reason Amtrak uses the old Coast Line tracks is because they served Orlando and Seaboard went through a different part of Fl going north (Ocala, Wildwood, etc). Disney, of course, dictated to Amtrak to serve Orlando. A little bit of trivia.

THREE SD40-3 rebuilds on one train - very impressive. Seeing CW44AC #50 on that same train made me think of something - why didn't CSX decide to give this unit the Seaboard Coast Line 'heritage' decal instead of CW46AC 616, which NOBODY has ever seen in service on the CSX system? 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the ACL/SAL merger that formed the SCL.
