Sometimes nostalgia feels overwhelmingly sad and uncomfortable for me. I want to go back to old times so badly (not all the time, just when a wave of nostalgia hits me). I always long for the the time when I was 18-21 because I would just play The Sims and watch anime, Korean dramas and variety shows, and K-Pop stuff all day and didn't really have a single worry or responsibility. So any anime, K-Pop groups or Korean dramas from that time really make me feel nostalgic (Vampire Knight, Boys Over Flowers, MBLAQ, Teen Top, SNSD, Coffee Prince, Trigun, Death Note, etc.) There are even foods that I ate at the time that I don't eat anymore that bring back a feeling of nostalgia. Specifically, there were these barbecue chips that I used to eat while watching shows and I can vividly remember eating them while watching anime.

This is just the content I needed today. I’ve been feeling the nostalgia hard the last few days and just wishing things were simple like when we were kids (instead of getting closer to 30 somehow lol)
Today has been an og Disney movie day

Movies do this for me the most! Anytime I feel sad or overwhelmed watching certain movies reminds me of times when I seemed comfort or escape from my daily life. Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Pocahontas, rom coms. Musicals were my safe space as a child. The best escapism!

I hardly ever comment on YT but I always love the Coffee Talks and have been listening and following for years. I watched this particular one three times in a row while journaling as my thoughts were spiraling about my own childhood. This was so emotionally intelligent, thoughtful, vulnerable, and had so much light. I even had to write down some of the thought-provoking lessons you mentioned in my journal. Thanks for having this coffee talk!

Also, I don't know if anyone will relate to this but...sometimes I like to go for a drive and I will see houses or places that I have never been to and I can imagine myself having a whole different life there (and not even a good one sometimes). It's like there's a different version of me in another timeline whose life went down a completely different path. Like, I'll picture myself as 40 years old in denim shorts in the front yard on a sunny day watching my child play while thinking about the things I need to get from the store for the trip we're taking this weekend. And I almost feel nostalgic for that life that never even happened. I know that sounds really weird haha, but I guess I feel safe sharing it here.

Sometimes there are things that come up, old shows or foods or toys... it brings forth memories that I'd forgotten until seeing them again.
I enjoy seeing or remembering the positive things rather than the many traumatic experiences. Nostalgia is mentioned, for me, I feel the positivity of old memories. Waiting forever to rewind a VHS. Seeing those specific movie openings. Reading certain books that I scraped Christmas money for three years to get. Going to a corner store in middle school to get candy because the elderly man we were distantly related to still sold stuff for 25 or 10 cents, unlike other stores. Mom took us into the movie store to pick up a pile of movies. Sillybanz, traveling once a year at Christmas to visit my grandparents whom we never saw much, pillows that were also radios, Lunchables, and using oil lamps my great grandfather left behind to heat up food when the power was out and to illuminate the place.

I must say I am very fond of this era of you so I hope you are enjoying this time in your life. It would appear that way, a calmer cooler collected straight chillin new momma.

This coffee talk was great thank you Kalyn. It is comforting to know that others deal with similar emotions regarding nostalgia. I often feel sad after feeling nostalgic and I think it’s just knowing that it’s just a memory or feeling that’s in the past and I’ll never experience it again. It does however make me want to cherish the present even more because I never want to look back and think wow I missed out on this moment because I was too busy yearning for the past.

Instant nostalgia by: music of the time period, intros of my fav tv shows, classic disney movies, star wars and harry potter, the theme park my family used to go to, old pictures, my childhood dog, my brother and our favourite memories, holidays like christmas and easter as a child, summer holidays and most certainly the smells of sunscreen, public pools, freshly mown grass, my grandparent's home and freshly baked cake

I literally have been having all the same thoughts this entire month 😭😅 . I’m 26 and I started feeling very nostalgic for my time in HS. I started re-reading a fave book series I read then (Vampire Academy - I’m obsessed AGAIN) and this sparked my nostalgia even more! I realized that I am missing all the fun I had in HS. I was so focused on all my trauma that it did overlook all the good & since I’ve been healing... Now I’m wishing I paid attention to all the positive things I had going on then. I realized I can relieve them in a way. Which I am by focusing on the present. Because you’re right Kalyn, per usual 🫶🏻, we can be feeling nostalgic about our 20s or whatever time period in the future. So here I am, trying to connect with friends more, my old hobbies, and just focusing on being present. It’s making me happier as the day goes on. 🥲🥰 thanks for making this video. Always feels so nice to be reminded we are definitely not alone! 💛

Heading off to school with a fresh new set of milky gel pens, my Lisa Frank pencil case, and a trapper keeper are soooo nostalgic for me! Also watching the original My Little Pony on VHS. Oh those were the days!
