Since they pretty much have to stay out of the way of everything that happens in Episodes 7-9. That would be a great way to give them a looming threat and still be out of the way of the plot of the last trilogy.
I speak multiple people about this topic, and have visions about the Imperial Remnant. They had a big firepower, but if our sources are clear they wasn't alone out there. I really hope the Remnant gets explored in “The Mandolorian”. 30 years between ROTJ and TFA just leaves this huge gap to be explored. I know books have covered it, but having a series would be so much better.
I'm hoping for some kind of Imerial resurgence leading to a small war that helps fill the 30 year gap between Jedi and Awakens. Maybe a bunch of the remnant Imerials realize they're stronger together and coalesce into a larger force to fight the New Republic.
What if the Resistance ends up acquiring old Imperial ships in episode 9, turn a symbol of tyranny into one of hope, or some of the Imperial Remnant don’t see the First Order as the the true successor and fight against them It’s highly unlikely, but it would be fun
Palleon is with Thrawn and Ezra or dead. He was in the finale of Rebels, not sure if the Purgil killed him but it seemed like he either died or was injured.
What if some of the scattered imperials were given different orders. Like orders to protect key imperial stations. For a new order to arise so they’ll have the resources available to them. Pretty sure key individuals that could rebuild upon the empire were sent to the eclipse worthy of leading it and starting it. And episode 9 some of those left behind start to hate the FO ideal and philosophy. So they join the resistance with some ISD and imperial tech. Would makes sense since the resistance need ships and personnel. Unless the remnants are taken out.
Often wars are maintained by the political factions long after the people lose interest. It is pretty realistic for a people to exit hostility quickly after a regime falls. It does suck though as Star Wars without war would be pretty boring.
Originally George Lucas planned for the luke trilgy to be like middle grounds like the second movie would be a middle one and t he third one I forgot, and then into the sequels (georges version), it owuld focus on his daughters or kids and an imperial remnant I think
I actually like that the empire ends so quickly after Palpatine’s death in canon. It speaks to how evil he was. He either wanted order with him at the center of it or complete chaos to further show his importance. Just like he was the Senate, he was also the Empire.
What if Thrawn took command of the Imperial Remnants and took it to his home system and later united it and readied it for all-out war against the 1st Order? We could see the Imperial Remnant drop out of hyperspace and save the Resistance in the final huge space battle in Ep9? At first, Hux would think these Imperials are there to back him up but then the Remnant ships open fire on the 1st Order? Thrawn is shown as the leader and he is able to destroy the last of the 1st Order ships, saving the Resistance ships and ending the new war. Peace is declared and Thrawn's Imperials return to his home system? Sounds like a great idea, right?
The Remnant would probably see the First Order as pretenders and unworthy of the Imperial legacy but I don't think they would help the Resistance at this point. The Resistance is just 20 people in the Falcon, defiantly not strange enough to justify the Remnant making an alliance with their mortal enemies. I think Thrawn would probably try to wipe them out while they are weak.
I would love a series that explores the Imperial Remnant, perhaps even a group of old Rebel alliance who simply don't like the idea of ramping down the military and go off into the unknown regions or the other new government regions that formed out of the fall of the Empire like Maracavanya, Corporate States, New Separatist Union, and so forth to hunt down the Imperial Remnant or those trying to become war lords. Would be a great way to explore and establish what most of the universe looks like since we've really only seen some unaligned worlds, New Republic, and First Order territory.
2:43 I feel there's other more pressing things they'd have to worry about once the chain of command of the empire disintegrate. Amassing ressources and maintaing some form of authority is probably more important.
The Imperial Remnant could be led as a new threat to the FO. It makes more sense that they be enemy of the Resistance and FO. It would be much better if we kept them as a threat.
The biggest mistake of the new Canon is making the end of the Empire this unrealistic. Usually in history when an empire collapses it doesn't just ends with a big fight and then it's over. There comes the multiple self-declared successors and remnants fighting the new dominant force and each other. Legends got it right. It would be amazing to see a GoT like series in the Star Wars Galaxy where different Imperial successors with different ideologies fight and make alliances with each other, the New Republic and the criminal underworld.
Total headcanon, but I figure you'd have three main remnant groups, the First Order made up of Palpatine's chosen, then there would be the Remnant States which are planets that are still outside of the Republic but are at peace with them, though probably under sanction observation or even occupation by the Republic like Japan in the aftermath of WW2, the rest would be the various warlords and pirate fleets that evolved out of the remains of the Imperial Navy and Army that refused to surrender but never joined up with the First Order which probably cause no small amount of grief to the Republic military. It would also explain why the First Order was able to blitz the galaxy after the attack on Hosnian Prime, they likely would help rally and arm the various remnant groups to attack the Republic and their loyalists.
I want to see a story about the imperial remnant directly after jumping into the unknown regions right after the battle of jakku and seeing them try and figure out what to do with themselves and how they became the first order.
I always thinking that FO and other IR groups are separate factions. But who knows. The Empire is heavily humanocentric, why suddenly the remnants that formed the FO agreed to be led by an alien is beyond logic. What I like about the IR in the new canon is there are so many possibilities.
He has the appearance of a very old human, but according to wookieepedia he is a humanoid alien. Still, there is no official explanation released about what species he belong to.
@@Panzergruppe22 I mean his body or face aren't that human either. I simply put it up to scarring, thinking he was the same species but I guess not. Still, a point can be made that even though the FO is more ruthless than the Empire, they could also have confused Snoke for human, like I did. I mean, it's not like Snoke would tell them otherwise.
I hope the Imperial remnant is a threat all the way up to and beyond the sequel trilogy. I kind of like the idea of The First Order teaming up with some factions while battling others. Also, it would be cool to see some battle damaged ISD's in Episode 9
I love the idea of the imperial remnants as well as the Emperor having various facilities across the galaxy. Never was a fan of the way the war ended so I’m happy to hear more about the different imperial factions.I’ve made an animated series called Remnants of the Empire. So ya know I’m definitely into the idea. 😁
They still have room to have Thrawn come back. Even if it they have it before Jakku, they can show him serve as the 2nd to last stand made by the Imperial Remnant before they are wiped out at Jakku (Heck if he gets killed before Jakku they can show the desperation made by the Imperial Remnant to fight it out to the end). He is still out there......and Dave Filoni wants him to come back too.
"So we just got a power vacuum with the death of Emperor Palpatine and the treaty is signed but there are still members of the Imperial forces who reject our new policy what should we do?" "Disarm the military." "Yes, we will get there once we capture them but what do we do now?" "No no, disarm *our* military"
I think 5 years would have been a healthy fight. Gives us good space keep some of the fighting vague to let later Canon bring in Thrawn maybe. Although that is kind of repeat-y. 5 more years Dragging on also helps really reinforce why Mon Mothma would be so sick of war afterwards
Bring back all the warlords. Teradoc, Zsinj, Kaine, Delvardus, all of them. My favorite thing from Legends was the Imperial Civil War. And please give us Pellaeon as a Remnant leader, not just a passing mention in Rebels. If there are any IR holdouts left, it would be cool to see them ally with the Resistance to defeat the FO, as they could see them as too radical a threat to their vision of the New Order.
@@lordfrostwind3151 From that what I know they are a de jure independent government only hampered by the Peace Treaty. De Facto the Government is observed by Republic Overseers, but if this still the case is at the time of Episode 7 I don't know.
I kind of like the idea of a 'nobody has plot armor' movie on the battle of Jakku, in the spirit of Rogue One--the sheer scale of fighting and casualties would make for a grim flick.
I would love for Shadow Wing to NOT be the 181st. I really want to see a Imperial "Aggressor" Squadron of Ace Pilots that fly X-Wing, A-Wing and E-Wings but with Imperial Roundels and wear open orange Rebel suits over TIE suits with the helmets repainted to look "Rebel". I'd love for Zsinj to return, and I figure his "Raptors" could really be a Mk II Deathtrooper in new armor. Admiral Daala and the Maw Installation need to come back. I'm also a HUGE fan of the SSD Terror and the TIE Phantoms. Commanders Karyn Faro and Woldar need to be part of the Remnant as Commanders who follow in Thrawn's leadership style. I fully suspect the Imperial Remnant is the most professional Navy in the Force Awakens era. It's really the only old symbol they have to cling to, they'll give it they're all. Yularen surviving and acting as a filter to send less-megalomaniac Imperials to the Empire of the Hand, and not the First Order. Have them start the Imperial Knights - what people don't bring up the Remnant would have the Jedi Archives, including Holos on how to train Knights.
Still better that the Galactic Civil War ended 1 year after a 5 year war. The Empire was killing itself and ultimately leaderless even without the New Republic pitching in. I’m skeptical about these holdouts that did not receive the Fist Order invite to regroup and hide their base of operations. Like, they can’t just have too much territory in galactic space, so they should adopt guerrilla strategies. And if infighting continues, the New Republic could separate themselves from it. If the remnants strike at the greater galaxy, they will lose, so I hope there is a game plan to this unlike just having battles keep on going over twice as long as the actual war went. Remnants should sow chaos by having a New Rebellion.
You mentioned that the war ended pretty quickly after 1 year. But if I remember correctly wasnt the peace kinda forced? Because Amedda was politically next in line to the Emperor and in Empire's End he was going to be murdered and promised if he was let go he would end the war. So "politically" the war ended but it continued through all the others mentioned in the video. So while it could be considered TOO FAST. It made sense plot wise since Amedda is a coward and would do what he could to survive and would allow a bit more easy passage for the New Republic to be a thing.
Asked this in another video but this is a better spot but are the battleground books worth reading for someone who reads all the books but doesn't play the games? Thanks.
Well considering the Republic view the Imperial Reminant as not a threat and dwindling in power (considering what they had I don't think they would be easily vanishing like that with out fights I mean so long without any major engagements when it said it was a power house inside still of the core worlds...make me think more that theImperial reminand is going underground to watch for the right moment. Although it would be more awesome to have the Imperial Reminant and First Order duke it out and the First Order seriously underestiate the Reminant if anything it does appear that all worthy officers sent to the First order are just all more Zeal that Skill. That and I'm pretty sure that even though they said they had thousands of Star Destroyers and by the time for the battle of Jaku only one. That's strange. It's impossible to loose that many inthe scale of 1 year even other factiosn hot hold of star destoryers and such but it would make more sense if the Reminant was descritely sending them somewhere Like somewhere out there is a fleet the size of Legends Black Fleet that's waiting or prepairing for something to happen. That might be an interesting question could the first order actually beat the black fleet?
I would like the majority of imperial remenants to be a neutral faction like the Hutts with their own space zone. And if they ever attack it would be like a cold war.
I personally don’t like the idea of the galactic civil war lasting 15+ years like in legends, but I agree that 1 year is too short. Something like 3 years after endor sounds good to me
Just wondering if you have any say in the ads that air before/during your videos. There was a pretty offensive one that aired at the start of this video.
So im not a fan at all of the new trilogy movies. but for a guy who was big into the legends books, would you guys recommend the new cannon books? are they better than the movies, or atleast hold up to the legends books?
I don't like the idea of the war with the Empire going on for 15 years after Return of the Jedi. It undermines the victory at Endor. It's clear that Lucas's intent was that the Empire is defeated at Endor, so the war should end there or shortly thereafter. This is made even more obvious by the special edition version that shows the entire galaxy celebrating at the end. The Imperial warlords constantly showing up just goes to show that the old EU could not or would not come up with new villains and didn't want to let go of the Empire as one. Then again the Vong were goofy as hell, and didn't fit in with Star Wars or lore at all, so not much of an improvement there. That said, there is some great storytelling potential for this Imperial Remnant in the new canon. I don't think we will see much or any of it in TV or movies though.
I prefer the canon version of the war during 1 year post Endor. It gives Episode VI the importance it deserves as the last movie of the OT and gives a period of peace for the protagonists. Also, the Clone Wars were this huge conflict and it only lasted 3 years and it was enough to change galactic history. It seems believable to me for the Civil War lasting an extra year after Endor, specially with the Contingency plan working against the imperials.
The Clone Wars would have gone on far longer without Palpatine's meddling. The obly reason it ended so soon was because he was feeding both sides Intel on each other, diverting troops away from positions about to be attacked, making them easier to take. He played both sides against each other to create the perfact climate for him to take power and eliminate the Jedi. Once he was Emperor, he didn't need the Seps any more and sent Anakin shut down the droid army and kill the CIS leadership, ending the war.

Thanks for the recap on the Imperial Remnants. Hope we’ll see more of them in The Mandalorian!
Hiro Aneirin there was a leaked picture of imperial stormtroopers on the set of the Mandalorian
"Could be a cool video game..."
EA: "Hmm? Online Multiplayer live service with microtransactions?"
What if the Resistance ends up acquiring old Imperial ships in episode 9, turn a symbol of tyranny into one of hope, or some of the Imperial Remnant don’t see the First Order as the the true successor and fight against them
It’s highly unlikely, but it would be fun
Will we get Grand Admiral Pelleaon? Bastion? Maybe Imperial Knights? Jagged Fel?
Palleon is with Thrawn and Ezra or dead. He was in the finale of Rebels, not sure if the Purgil killed him but it seemed like he either died or was injured.
@@darthvipera4276 According to Dave Filoni he survived the blockade destruction.
First Order: you are obsolete and inferior
Imperial Remnant: You are cowards and not true successors
Kinda sucks how fast canon made the Empire lose, but its still cool
Often wars are maintained by the political factions long after the people lose interest. It is pretty realistic for a people to exit hostility quickly after a regime falls.
It does suck though as Star Wars without war would be pretty boring.
@@ketatgenhorst I don't think so.
Makes no sense. Not all Imperials even liked the man.
so many of those pics are great and hope the movies can somehow translate the look and feel of many of them at some point or other.
Ah... The Polynesian Spa...
I'd love to see a video bout Moff Gideon's remnant. That guy mustve been powerful cuz he had death troopers
First Order: W-who are you?
Imperial Remnant: I'm you, but better.
I still hope to see Bastion as the Imperial stronghold as it was in Original Canon. I just love the planet's description.
there is this remnant called the Republic Remnant
We're gonna see them in the Mandolorian
That would make a excellent series as well!! Great video!!
👍☯️👍
Do you think we'll ever see a battle take place between the First Order and Imperial holdouts? That would be fantastic!
Nice Video :)
The Imperial Remnant could be led as a new threat to the FO. It makes more sense that they be enemy of the Resistance and FO. It would be much better if we kept them as a threat.
It would be cool to see the Yuzhang vong as the enemy of both First Order and Resistance/New Republic
i would still have liked to see the old canon imperial remnant. New canon just doesn’t feel like Star Wars
Basically we have no idea...
I love how the empire saves the day, helping the new republic defeat the yutzan vong!
It would be cool to see a story about the First Order fighting other Imperial Remnants that fled to the Unknown Regions.
Honestly star wars can't screw up the real empire. The one that actually did good in the old canon
Point of clarification: Was the secret research facility at the Carbon Ridge on Jakku *different* from the Observatory??
Would’ve like to see imperial infighting. That’s what made the warlord era of legends great.
Man id love a tv show about this of how it turned to the first order but we got resistance. So i might make it myself.
Snoke was human, not an alien.
He has the appearance of a very old human, but according to wookieepedia he is a humanoid alien.
Still, there is no official explanation released about what species he belong to.
@@Panzergruppe22 Oh, so he's... biracial? Bispecies?
No, I think the other term in wookieepedia is Near-human.
He may look like old human but upon close up, his skin doesn't look like human skin.
This sounds really cool 😎
What I would like to know is what is the New Separatist Union. They were only briefly mentioned in Empire's End and that's it.
So is the remnant still around in the sequel trilogy?
"So we just got a power vacuum with the death of Emperor Palpatine and the treaty is signed but there are still members of the Imperial forces who reject our new policy what should we do?"
"Disarm the military."
"Yes, we will get there once we capture them but what do we do now?"
"No no, disarm *our* military"
Well, they're not me this time, that's for sure.
Help me.
It will be cool that Imperial Remnant will someday came back...
QnA: Is it possible that the Colossus is a secret imperial outpost? That would be the answer why it is wanted by the FO.
I still kind of hope that among the Resistance's allies in the Outer Rim is the Imperial Remnant
I agree that the Galactic Civil War ended too quickly in canon.
Current Canon is stupid. Most just crashed on Jakku.
And what is with the Imperial Remnant, that formed in the Core and Inner Rim after the Surrender?
I always figured they were basically operating under occupation of the New Republic but were secretly helping the First Order under the table.
@@lordfrostwind3151 From that what I know they are a de jure independent government only hampered by the Peace Treaty. De Facto the Government is observed by Republic Overseers, but if this still the case is at the time of Episode 7 I don't know.
There was also a remnant in the Core and the Inner Rim that abode by the terms of their surrender, wasn't there?
I'd like to see the Remnant fight the First Order
They should make a Star Wars story of jakku like rogue one that would he really exciting
Is it me or does the observatory story remind you of viciate finding dromund kass
I wanna see Remnants on the Mandalorian. They could hire The Mandalorian to go on various missions against the Republic.
"I am the dark side!" - The Emperor.
I think they keep in storage in case the old républic stuff flop so they Can go back to old school Star Wars
Great why isnt this a movie?
Interesting. I thought ALL the Imperial Remnant became the First Order. But this makes the post-Empire era a bit more interesting.
Luckily the upcoming "Mandalorian" TV series, may help explain what happened to these Imperial Remnant cells.
I would like the majority of imperial remenants to be a neutral faction like the Hutts with their own space zone. And if they ever attack it would be like a cold war.
I personally don’t like the idea of the galactic civil war lasting 15+ years like in legends, but I agree that 1 year is too short. Something like 3 years after endor sounds good to me
Whats wrong with a 15 year war? They had to remove the Galatic Empire from rule after all.
I like how tidy the new canon is. Yeah, I said it.
Would that mean Thrawn and the Chimera make a return?
Just wondering if you have any say in the ads that air before/during your videos. There was a pretty offensive one that aired at the start of this video.
They are chosen by an algorithm based on your internet history and videos you've wached in the past.
Cool info, 1 year way to fast. It was too big to happen that fast . But 15 too long. I think 5 or 6 years seems better . Thanks again
So im not a fan at all of the new trilogy movies. but for a guy who was big into the legends books, would you guys recommend the new cannon books? are they better than the movies, or atleast hold up to the legends books?
All shit to me, the older stuff is a million times better.
Q&A Question:
Which version of Thrawn do you like better, legends or canon?
I like the end of the empire both from cannon and legends
and it was bassicly completely ignored, not even a mention, not even acknoledgment to its existance, just died off in the side lines
Is this canon?
Of course it is, aftermath is canon.
The Empire will rise again
First Order is more powerful than the Imperial Remnant
Thrawn you're drunk go back to sleep
@@koffeelily, Nope. I don't get drunk. I only strategize.
How about Thrawn he could still be around during that time
I don't like the idea of the war with the Empire going on for 15 years after Return of the Jedi.
Would you like to see imperial remnant be hunted by the 1st order in 9, as tgey try to join
Anotherthing in cannon which is rushed then and only takes place over a shorty period of time?
