No the stakes weren't absurd enough is closer. I mean Palpatine rising?! The stakes are high enough with that, but noooooo he needed something more. Palpatine being behind Snoke isn't enough.🙄
Film 4: A Death Star Film 6: A bigger Death Star Film 7: An even bigger Death Star that can destroy multiple planets at once Film 9: A fleet of 10000s of Death Stars...
I mean the original death star needed kyber crystals from ilum.... the starkiller base literally was ilum, feeded by the sun.... now what powers the lasers from the ships? the power of friendship?
I hadnt thought about it like this, but if this was the largest fleet ever, then that basically means that Palpatine created more stardestroyers in his back yard, when he had no resources, then the empire in its prime did. Which makes the whole thing even more stupid.
Im saddened they didnt do the star forge thing like the expanded universe, like their was some potentially interesting stuff they could have done but no we got shit

Sounds like the battle was written by a child. "So the Emperor raises so many super big Star Destroyers, like, 10 thousands of them, and they allll have superlasers so they can blow up planets!" "And then Lando gets the help of everyone in the galaxy to come help the Resistance fight!" Seriously.
I see certain orders of magnitude in Star Wars... figuratively. “Tens of thousands”, my Ahch-To! It had to be several hundred, which could... feasibly be defeated by a thousand armed-civilian ships if unshielded, with a single obvious weakness. To me, basic logic is higher canon than a hired writer’s literary interpretation of the movie.
@Johnny Silverhand I personally find Rian Johnson and Episode 9 better, JJ concentrates on typcial bombastic scenes, Johnson more on character development.
Personally I’m proud of whoever was in charge of the logistics for that fleet. What a guy, finding a way to feed literally hundreds of thousands of people required to crew those ships, on a planet that can’t grow its own food, while somehow keeping the planet a secret. My goodness what a task! Those Uber drives must have gotten very good at navigating that hyper space lane!!
Hundereds of thousands of people is an extreme understatement. there are tens of thousands of ships all have a crew around thirty thousand. we are talking hundreds of MILLIONS maybe even BILLIONS of people.
Prequel Trilogy - How the Empire came to be Trilogy - How the Rebels rise up and defeat the Empire Sequel Trilogy - I don't know, let's just make some movies to make money
The idea of 10s of thousands of very large and exspensive star destroyers coming out of nowhere with literally death Star laser that somehow get destroyed by the random undertrained hero reminds me of something two 7 year old kids playing with Legos would come up with.
Plot Twist - Entire story was written by a toddler that Disney stole when the kid and his family was in Disney land. Thus saving massive budget on story writing.
The sequels only make sense if a 12 year old wrote the scripts for an audience of 6 year olds. It lacks any real sense or maturity and nobody acts like an adult.
Admiral: "My lord, the fleet is ready to launch from the planet." Palpatine: "Good, but first make sure that one communication tower is functioning, none of the ships can fly without it" Admiral: "Can't the ships guide themselves up into the atmosphere on their own?" Palpatine: "No, I don't have the unlimited data plan"
You say that but the EAW remake mod actually has this fleet pop outta noo where. and they steam roll in Auto resolve so you have to fight them manually. 5 of them will kill a 200 pop battle cruiser with 4 casualties.
A superweapon that creates a short-lived black hole the size of a whole system! Now that would up the scale! But where do we go from there? 10.000 black hole cannons?! A weapon that destroys a whole galaxy? 10.000 of those?!
@@dektarey4024 Yeah that would be an interesting twist. Like Palpatine or the First Order decided they might as well purge the galaxy of all life or something, if they can't rule then burn the whole place down
It's because you only see a random planet being blow up. When it happend to "Alderaan" It was different because It was the Home Planet of Leia. A character who you can empatise with and that was showed on screen a little bit more of time. In this case you have just random people that only are showed so you can see them die.

@@American_Trekkie They had 200 million dollars and made a below average movie and terrible sequel. I'm not offending anyone I'm critizing the movie for how lazy it is. Understand I'm not saying you are wrong for liking the movie, I just don't like it.
Why don't you watch the movie again and take a look at the underbelly of the ship and I'm not talking about the super laser I'm talking about the canal like structure under the ship And you know how the original star destroyer had Tractor beam emplacements around the underbelly well this ship does not and those are replaced with point defense cannons
For how smart Palpatine was in movies 1-6, making 10,000 identical ships that don't have shields and can't tell which direction to fly in seems pretty lame.
One of the biggest problems with these films(and most other movies nowadays) is that the sense of scale is way off. In Halo the scale is always clearly defined in the games and books. When a handful of regular Covenant ships show up the tone begins to shift. You can tell it's gonna be a tough fight but victory isn't completely off the table. When Covenant capital ships or a super carrier shows up the mood shifts immediately. At that point the reader knows that when one of those ships show up it's not about winning, it's about saving as many UNSC forces as possible to be used in a more winnable situation. The scale is clearly defined and consistent. With Star Wars(at least now) the scale is all over the place. Back in Episode 5 when you saw just a single star destroyer you knew the rebels were in a tight spot. The sequels just copy pasting thousands of them so nonchalantly takes out that sense of dread and danger, because you know the resistance wouldn't stand a chance against those odds but because the scale has been thrown off the writers are just gonna make some cheap cop out for the heroes to blow em all up and win.
You know... that's true. I've never read the halo books so I can't comment on that but I have read a large number of legends star wars books and it's usually indicated when an ISD shows up the characters are basically like "an imperial star destroyer?? Well we're fucked." That's a good point you made.
@@AKJames762 Exactly. What people not into the SW EU don't understand is that a Star Destroyer isn't just a really big ship. It's the most advanced war vessel in the history of the SW galaxy. A single ISD can lock down an entire system thanks to all the ground forces and fighters it carries. Not to mention the ungodly amount of firepower it has along with it's artificial gravity wells that prevent non blockade running ships from escaping(Rogue one actually got that right just for TLJ to immediately screw it up). The OG Empire didn't need a bajillion of em. They only needed like....20. It's the reason why the rebels had to build a massive ion cannon *with* a giant shield generator to protect Hoth. In episode 6 Admiral Ackbar had to remind Lando that their own capital ships couldn't even last against an ISD. The rebels had to outwit and out strategize the Empire, just like the UNSC against the Covenant. The scale was consistent up until the sequels where it flip flops all the time to suit the writing.
Yeah it's one of those situations where if there 1 Enemy That's Almost Unbeatable, gets beaten after a Tough fight, then later they Fight Multiple of that same enemy, Then you know they're each going to be Easier to Destroy.
@@coltonwhite2518 The empire had thousands upon thousands of star destroyers, and that honestly makes sense, since they had to police thousands upon thousands of star system. So while there were a lot of ISD's, they were scattered all over. This is one of the reasons why an ISD needed to be so powerfull, it had to be capable of operating mostly alone. The republic and CIS had probably a lot less capital ships (though at least several hundreds if not more), because many worlds supported them vs the empire subjugating every world they were able to, even out rim system formerly mostly ignored by/independent of the republic and CIS. In episode 6 I do believe there were quite a lot of ISD's, just also one dreadnaught class ISD (or whatever it was called). A good capital ship of the rebels could take on an ISD, however the rebels had very few such powerfull ships, while the empire had plenty.
Emperor palpatine found the duplication glitch. Lando calrissian, on the other hand, found the infinite time glitch and the infinite speech glitch to recruit all potential allies.
So tens of thousands of ISD's were made. Doing a bit of math, from 4 ABY to 34 ABY that would mean they were making 1.095 ships per day if they made 10,000. Idk what Sith ketamine magic those workers are on, but I hope they get paid well.
@@satelliteisjustsatanisteli8665 that math still equates to 0.783 star destroyers completed a day. Damn near 3 star destroyers every 4 days. And no matter how dedicated those workers would be, they’d still be dying for exhaustion because its not like they’re gettin weekends. I imagine theres some “disney logic” explanation for it, but no matter how you look at it, theres no way that many ships could be produced. Not without just retrofitting weapons onto existing ships like the Acclimator, Venator, and ISD’s I and 2
"Take that massive gun and stick it on the bottom." "Should we put armor around the important parts?itd be bad if a single starfighter could blast into it and make the whole ship blow up." Remember how the largest droid army ever created had to fight several years and still loose (granted that palps made sure they would) but the largest fleet ever assembled went down in the time it took for the main character to beat the main antagonist… kinda strange
The decision to create this enormous fleet went through several people during creative process and none of them though that these fleet sizes are a bit comical?
It's actually 4D chess, you see all this is secretly just Anakin's fever dream as he succumbs to cell death moments before the Death Star explodes in VI. When you think about it that way it all makes sense how nothing lines up lol

I haven't seen the movie, but the fighter complement from a regular Star Destroyer times the Exogol Star Destroyers would be enough for that. I'm assuming it did not happen. After Episode VIII and what I heard about IX I wasn't going to give a cent to Disney for this. After all, the villain of the two-parter was killed.
afaik he just said "use Ion Cannons", with no instruction NOT to use regular ordinance. Which kind of makes sense, they've got 10's of thousands of star destroyers there, the blanketing fire is boung to hit SOMETHING. In my headcannon at least, it was an instruction to actually fire ion cannons additionally to point defense even though they're typically ineffective against fighters due to the sheer concentration of firepower present.
"I send out my fleet that has tens of thousands of star destroyers!" "Yeah, well I send out my dinosaur which eats fleets of tens of thousands of star destroyers!"
Palpatine was using the duplication glitch in this multiplayer match. Lando calrissian was using the infinite speech, FTL communications, and instant travel glitches to get that fleet there in time.
Disney broke their own cannon when fin destroyed general pryd’s first Order star destroyer by destroying the bridge the. why did the ship go down? specs on the ship showed that resurgence class star destroyer was designed with an backup internal bridge that would assume control should the exterior bridge be hit avoiding a second executor fiasco but this didn’t happen and the ship crashed and burned on the planet surface.
My personal theory is that while there are two bridges there is only one bridge crew. With the crew using their own initiative wich one they use. And yes, I know that I'm grasping at straws.
The far greater crime to me in this movie was showing the rebel fleet on screen only _after_ they jumped into the battle. They had a history making scene right in the palm of their hands, the entire galaxy jumping in to save the day one last time... and it happened off screen.
The sequel trilogy just looks like a fanfiction an 11 year old that doesn't even know much of the lore of Star Wars wrote with professional cinematography
The original trilogy has all sorts of minor references to the Empire's resources, vast though they are, being stretched by the construction of the Death Stars. It gave a sense of industry to the universe. The sequel trilogy feels like it takes place in a computer or a dream, there's no resource requirement to anything, the plot just magics things into existence.
vagabondflow Yes, at first I thought that the origins of these ships didn’t make any sense. After a while though, I figured out that with Palpatine’s ancient sith secrets, and decades and decades of time, he could somehow make a few hundred star destroyers. Also, he could have just saved them from the times when the Empire was at the height of its industry, as a last resort, and just upgraded them with planetary lasers with what he had on hand.
Personally I follow ‘Legends’ with pockets of Disney like Rouge One fitting in there. I can’t stand these Disney defending morons who shit on the ExpU’s thousands of hours of content, dedicated skilled writers and ACTUAL fans of the franchise behind it, unlike Disney who turned Star Wars into a platform for 3 things: - money - political propaganda - relating to the largest amount of people possible, regardless of the expense to anything else. Oh and also, M O N E Y

Then this failure would be all of Palp's doing for having the fleet of entirely one ship. This is why there are escorts to larger, more specialized, equipment.
@@alexottmer2728 True, but that also presents another issue: The Star Forge was uniquely designed by the Rakatan/Infinite Empire using advanced technology that would be lost with the Rakatan Empire when it declined into random tribes. Most importantly, the exact process/method in which the Star Forge was built and operated was lost with the Forge itself, with most knowledge either fading from existence or being viewed as useless. Another issue almost no one talks about: Exogol’s atmosphere confuses the navigation systems of the star destroyers. Why doesn’t it do the same to the resistance ships? This shows there is no actual reason the star destroyers shouldn’t be able to leave.
You know....you'd think if you were going to build ten thousand super duper star destroyers on a planet you'd make sure they could navigate their way off it. Maybe it's just me but that seems like a pretty basic necessity for a spaceship. It's just lazy, dumb, hack writing.

An easier explanation would have been that it was all a massive force illusion. Palpatine was desperate and playing his only hand, which was a bluff designed to discourage the rebels. Same thing was done in Picard by JJ’s pupil, Alex Kurtzman. The final episode has a fleet of 218 Romulan warbirds standoff with a fleet of hundreds of Starfleet ships that just so happen to arrive at the same time. Exactly like tRoS. It’s not even exciting. They tried to copy the Marvel moment, but Marvel gave us a emotional connect to EVERY group that came through the Portal, we knew them, they are characters we have known for a while now, even Black Panther by then was 3 Movies old (Civil war, Black Panther and Infinity War). So we as the audience cared and cheered for each one of the portals.
The battle of Exegol is the final dry-heave of a three movie barf-binge. It's like drinking a bottle of cheap tequila and eating the worm at the bottom; even though it starts off bad, you hope that if you keep swallowing enough it will eventually get better. By the time you're finished you really don't care anymore; you just know you'll regret it in the morning.
Even the eternal fleet of swtor made more sense, valkorion simply found the remains of an advanced fallen civilization and found out they had an automated fleet. Being completely run by IA meant that it wouldn’t need to recruit that many people for his army. Also because they are perfectly synchronized they can completely surround a planet and do an orbital bombardment and destroy it in a couple hours without letting anyone escape and then move to the next planet. Little wonder why the republic and sith empire surrendered within a year.
True though even SWTOR is quite iffy with it's scale of superweapons. Like it's nice that with alot of them they get dead and buried, but you can't tell me Iokath would just stay under the radar like this with it's insane ancient weaponry.
@@somethingwithultra7231 well, it’s because iokath it’s a Dyson sphere, it covers up the entire Star. So unless one knows where to look for the search for iokath is impossible. How the sith emperor found it? Some of its rituals need a lot of people dying in short amount of time. The entire iokath race was extinguished by one of their own superweapons, that amount of death surely draw his attention. edit: also, there was an evil AI in control of iokat that would capture and kill anyone who discovers iokath. So any explorer that found iokath would die before reporting their finding. The sith emperor has the ability of resurrecting upon death, so for him that was a mild annoyance.
Also the Dyson Sphere covering most of the star it encircles causing all of the heat and light of the star to be stopped. Which makes it so that only visions can find it.
The Xyston-class Star Destroyers are almost like the CSO-class supercarriers from Halo in that they're just a previous ship model scaled up without any thought put into it.
Worse than anything in the prequels. And that’s saying something. The ultimate crescendo of shitfuckery. A veritable legacy dumpster fire. Not only throwing the baby out with the bath water. But burning the fucking house down too. Gah 💩
And what shipyards was pumping out those Star Destroyers. Even if they had their own, to produce that much, they would probably need 10 Kuat Drive shipyards, which they do not have.
This, also as Star Destroyers were produced by Kuat, how do Sith fanatics know how to make it. Unlikely that emperor himself would know all the details how to produce the ship. Something inspired by the Sith Interdictor would have made much more sense.
@@thezplayer3002 It's just lazily written and for every question like the one from Zam they come up with a lazy explanation. Literally my first thought when the Star Destroyers started rising out of the ice was: “How have they been feeding that fleet and the workers that built it for 30 years on a frozen wasteland?”
It would of been so much cooler if a handful of rebel ships turn up and get absolutely devastated and just as it seems that no hope if left, the 1st orded turns up and kylo is on the bridge ordering all first order vessels to open fire, that way this contributes to kylo redeeming himself, and we get to have huge broadside battles.
Bro, scrolling through the comments and seeing yours...gave me shivers just imagining that with all those pizza slices up there attacking eachother it would be EPIC. (And make sense)(and be easier on the vfx people)(still tho probably scale down the fleet size to mabye 2-3times bigger then the the FO fleet...) so much potential and great ideas like yours.. lost
@@sudsyinc.953 the other ep9's script (not used), had tons of interesting scenes and a cool story, completing every main character's story (es finn converts some stormtroopers making them fight for the rebellion, kylo redeemkng himself thanks to anakin's force ghost, etc...). And the final Battle was over coruscant atmosphere (in the same place of ep3 opening scene) with old VENATOR WRECKAGES and a ground battle near the old Jedi temple with fisrt Order against resistance and imperial redheemed soldiers. Wow
So many things they could have done but didn't do... They could have had rey go to the dark side, kylo convert to light side, and bring rey back. The story beats were almost there for that to. I'd go as far to say that rey had more motivation to go the dark side than kylo did.
@@jacopopianigiani3578that sounds much better than some final order that doesnt make sense. If the last battle was over coruscant it would have been cool
this so called “battle” isn’t even a battle! what made the original trilogy so good was that the battles were actually battles you would expect in a war with tactics, strategy, and realistic fleets and troops.
T. To be fair when you think about it most of the two big space battles in the OT didn’t make sense. Realistically there is no chance Luke blows up the Death Star considering the empire realistically oiled send out a much bigger fleet to destroy the rebels. Endor makes a little more sense but like you said the super star destroyer failing that easily doesn’t make much sense. I feel like at the end of the day most of the battles where the “good guys” are very unrealistic, exogol is just the most unrealistic out of all of them
@@Archon3960 Considering that it was being pounded by the entire rebel fleet and its engines were on fire (you can actually see the smoke trail in the scene as it is beginning to go into the crash) the fighter crashing into the bridge did little more then speed up the inevitable.
Yeah let's not forget Legion of Emperor's finest troops with armored support being massacred by teddy bears armed with flint spears and low-poundage bows...
This battle would be much better if in the story of the movie, they said that something like half the fleet of the new republic was destroyed. That the new republic was able to gather and organize its fleet. In addition to calling its members to mobilize their navies. They could mention that several planets still remember how it was under the regime of the empire. And that they would rather be destroyed than be ruled again under a tyrannical regime. With the first order with their forces overextend. They could show that the first order was having a hard time, as they relied heavily on the base starkiller in their plans. And because they have a very centralized organization. And after the death of supreme leader snoke and several top officers after the destruction of The Supremacy in the second film. The machinery of the first order was paralyzed until Kylo Ren managed to consolidate his power and reorganize the leadership. With Kylo Ren almost desperate to get a new fleet because they were losing. Because they were facing great resistance in every sector of the galaxy. With the battle of Exegol being the New Republic fleet with its allies, all warships, descending on the planet. Perhaps even with a captured and modified super destroyer leading the fleet. With the galaxy passing a message to the first order like "never again".
Too well thought out. You are Fired! 🤣🤣 As Screen Rant pitch meetings puts it you should do what you like. How's that possible? Because..... That works! That's modern writing these days. Who cares just blow some shit up it's Star Wars people will watch any drivel if you slap that on it. Plus we can sell a mint of toys. I do love to sell Merchandise. Yes sir you do.
The final battle could have been so much better. Firstly, Palpatine's ships were overkill, and tactically stupid. But second, it would have been so much better if instead of all of the Resistance ships showing up at once, they came in one world at a time. The battle is going badly, then over the coms we hear "Mon Cala entering the atmosphere," "Bothawui reporting in," "Hondo's business associates here to help." And each group comes at a slightly different time to account for hyperspace travel.
That actually would have been really engaging, seeing different ships types and races slowly show up to make a dent in the Imperial fleet every minute or so. Maybe you could have it end with more of crescendo, where Lando shows up with a big fleet, maybe reminiscent of the Republic fleets
The idea sounds exciting but I have one problem, how are the resistance forces going to survive THAT LONG until the reinforcements arrive?, because to make it engaging, as you said, you can't have all ships coming one right after the other, so you need some time in between to success in that engaging effect on the audience. How are the ships going to last long enough against such overkill without breaking logic?, if its like 15 ships vs 10000 then forget about the reinforcements, when they come the first wave of resistance ships are already gone, and so goes on with the rest.
They missed an opportunity to bring in the STAR FORGE and link it to the sith in the old republic and mentioned Revan and Malak, and even the new High Republic they announced
mattrR678 for a little bit i kept thinking “ you know they might just do it and link it and finally really tie in the old republic” but then no and my childhood was over Just like that

@@coltonwhite2518 excellent points 👍
Sometimes I wish they just used the droid army remnants for this, but then they would have overshadowed the rest of the movie.
So tens of thousands of ISD's were made. Doing a bit of math, from 4 ABY to 34 ABY that would mean they were making 1.095 ships per day if they made 10,000. Idk what Sith ketamine magic those workers are on, but I hope they get paid well.
palpatine actually created Snoke before events of Attack of The Clones, he planned it since about, awwww, 27 BBY?
@@satelliteisjustsatanisteli8665 that math still equates to 0.783 star destroyers completed a day. Damn near 3 star destroyers every 4 days. And no matter how dedicated those workers would be, they’d still be dying for exhaustion because its not like they’re gettin weekends. I imagine theres some “disney logic” explanation for it, but no matter how you look at it, theres no way that many ships could be produced. Palpatine thinks obvious weak points are the only way to get the rebels to come out and play
Remember how the largest droid army ever created had to fight several years and still loose (granted that palps made sure they would) but the largest fleet ever assembled went down in the time it took for the main character to beat the main antagonist… kinda strange
The funny thing was palpatine had most of those ready between the new hope and empire strikes back according to comics
And never used them, where only one or two could have turned the course of the war.
The decision to create this enormous fleet went through several people during creative process and none of them though that these fleet sizes are a bit comical?
JJ probably fired all of them
I think 500 would've been the right number, however, you could go lot lower and Palpatine would still be inexorable.

Tens of thousands of ships is still a feat unwitnessed in movie history, since they utterly failed to establish the full size of the fleet on screen or in dialogue.

I hate how likely it is that this is exactly what went down

The logistics to hide a fleet here would make it feasibly impossible to keep this a secret. The materials, food, equipment, contractors to build and operate the equipment, the funds, it’s crazy.

Yes EXACTLY.

And you have my condolences; I too suffered through them.

According to the wiki the sith eternal have spy within the kuat drive high ranking members
@@thezplayer3002 It's just lazily written and for every question like the one from Zam they come up with a lazy explanation. Even if they had a spy on the Kuat Drive Yards stealing the original plan for the ISD, they either don't have the production capability on Exegol or there is a gigantic manufacturing facility, probably spanning the whole planet, hidden under the surface we just didn't get to see in the movie.
Fun fact: They designed the enslaved factory planet - then edited it out cause it made way too much sense next to the rest of it. You can still find pics in the Artbook.

Getting killed on the Death Star wasn't very good for him.... must have broken his ability to make plans.
When he announced his plans to all galaxy, you understand that this is not Palpatine. Think if he announced Order 66 or Death Star's building to all galaxy before it didn't happen. What a messed up shit trilogy.
Palpatine is a political strategist and tactician not a military one.
@@marrqi7wini54 He is not bad on military strategy either. However, he did misjudge the power of the Ewoks, as well as their willingness to go to war. This, in turn, caused the shield around DS2 to be brought down, which caused its destruction and loss of the Battle of Endor. If the Ewoks hadn't helped and/or one of the Empires best Legions hadn't failed so spectacularly, then his strategy at Endor was sound. Blockade the Rebel fleet, pick off the capital ships with the Death Star laser and have the fighters and Star Destroyers mop up the rest.

Wow
This is a good idea 👍 damn u smart bro. It would have been so epic to see that.
I agree, even though Vader's destroyer falling on the Death Star 2 because of one fighter kamikaze attack wasn't that realistic... xD

I like that idea
