I predict that Thrawn will be finally killed by someone working for the First Order. They were already forming in secret by this time, with Moff Gideon requesting Praetorian Guards from Brendol Hux. I can imagine him being close to victory, and Snoke or Sidious sends someone to deliberately have Thrawn lose so that the First Order could truly conquer the galaxy with a weakened New Republic.
Is Thrawn part of the contigency plan? Unless he is, and even if he is, I don't think Sidious would let Thrawn establish control while he is on the side. Unless Sidious was able to be on top of him and control him, he had to get rid of him.
@@dani4ever Thrawn is not part of the contingency, but Sloane could meet Thrawn and talk about it. They are the only two leaders who are against Sidious' total dominance over the contingency.
More than just a final betrayal - we could very well see a conflict within the Imperial Remnants, a war between Palpatine loyalists (Hux, etc.) and Thrawn loyalits. If Thrawn learns about project necromancer, I highly doubt he will let it happen. An Empire led by Palpatine with an army of sith clones doesn't sound like the best "ally" to the Chiss anymore. Thrawn can't just be another pawn used as a diversion to give Hux enough time to finish project necromancer. He has the opportunity to become the leader of the Empire and we know from the novels that he wanted Palpatine reign to end so that he could influence the choice of a new and better leader, or become the leader himself.
If that happens, I'm permanently done with this franchise. The sequels will never be good. You cannot turn that dumpster fire into entertainment, where woman randomly stands on correct rock and pulls out 93,000 year old knife found in desert, with doodad that lines up perfectly with less than forty year old twisted metal in an ocean with wild currents and gigantic storms on the regular. If Hux saw that Thrawn was winning regularly and ordered a hit on him, Hux is literally the stupidest character in all of fiction.

I think the New Republic will be gradually weakened by Thrawn’s Remnant to the point where its naval defenses are so damaged that the New Repubkic has to rely on the Ghost crew to defeat Thrawn. That could explain why the New Republic was so focused on not provoking the First Order and obviously they didn’t realize that the First Order didn’t care and wanted to blow them up with their Starkiller Base. Also, it’d be nice to see the good guys on the losing side and that’d make it even more interesting.
Thrawn said something in Ahsoka about bringing order back to the galaxy. I think he would try winning by turning the New Republic back into the Empire by using the Dathomirians or the Mandalorias the same way the CIA used the Talibans against the USSR in Afganistan during the 70s-80s. Filoni is paving the path to make the First Order an integrated part of the Galaxy as they were in Bloodline or Resistance
we also have to take into account that Remnant will most likely be the underdogs this time, I doubt they have a large fleet even if they combine their numbers. It will be outmatched and outgunned, So it will be interesting to see how it will play out.
If the Mandoverse War is being modeled after Timothy’s Zahn’s trilogy, then I suspect those containers retrieved from Peridea could be similar to “that other piece of technology” that Thrawn had retrieved from Mt Tantiss. Begun, The Thrawn War has.
I do hope we see at least one big space battle similar to the battle of coruscant, just ships slugging it out while the main crew try to beat thrawn. Prolly won’t be the same scale but having a similar amount of ships flying about and slugging each other would be awesome.
I still think there's room for Abeloth. An entity like that leaves room for a retreat for Thrawn back to Chiss Ascendancy with Ashoka in pursuit. This removes all those players from the sequels and leaves room from them to return post First Order, now that the New Republic has poked their noses into the Unknown Regions at Exegol. This could time they reveal the Grysks, maybe with a Thrawn face-turn?
I think they’ll keep the Noghri and the Nightsisters separate. Rukh was already introduced in Rebels, so we’ve established that the Noghri exist in the Canon universe. He’ll probably substitute another character for Leia, since using her is still a dubious possibility. Perhaps Ezra or another force user can fulfill the same role, they would simply need to modify the history from Legends to fit whichever character they substitute in.
I remember when the Sequels were coming out thinking that the First Order would operate more like a terrorist organization, kind of like COBRA from GIJoe. I could see Thrawn running a guerilla war against the Republic. Hell they are already setting up that the Republic government is almost all out denying that Thrawn is even a threat, the way they did the Yuuzhan Vong in the NJO books at the beginning.
In the Canon storyline, the Empire strategically feigned defeat against the New Republic, orchestrating a plan to reunite and gradually reclaim power and influence. Palpatine's contingency, executed by Galius Rax and later Grand Admiral Sloane, played a pivotal role in this scheme. This manipulation ultimately gave rise to the First Order, and the Empire utilized its influence to exploit the failures of the New Republic, swaying worlds to align with the First Order. Pretty much Game of Thrones but executed poorly because of sequels. I hope Filoni delves deeply into the origins of the First Order, exploring characters like Thrawn, Sloane, Brendol Hux, and others. It wouldn't be surprising if the First Order becomes divided between Snoke and Sloane loyalists, prompting Thrawn to persuade the Chiss to assist the Sloane faction in concealing and rebuilding, eventually leading to the formation of the canonical version of the Fel Empire. Contrastingly, in the Legends storyline, the Empire engaged in a prolonged conflict with the New Republic for many years, led by figures such as Thrawn, Sidious, and other warlords. This narrative culminated in the transformation of the Empire into the Fel Empire, which, in the speaker's opinion, represented a more satisfying and improved version of the Empire. I personally prefer the Legends storyline due to the compelling build-up toward the reformation into the Fel Empire, which portrayed the emergence of a superior Empire. However, Legends did have problems with Palpatine's return like what canon did, and some retcons here are there, but nonetheless a well-executed storyline than canon.
