Denver was a master songwriter brother! ❤
Absolutely Michael…thanks for being here! ❤️🙏😎👍🍺
"Prisoners." "The Box." I think I heard him say somewhere that he was more (at some point) a Western singer, rather than a Country singer. But then the 80s happened and he found the sax intriguing. And yet still he trudged on and continued successfully. The Wildlife Concert is phenomenal. Especially his performance of "For You." Love all his albums. From the Mitchell Trio to "All Aboard!" There's a 1991 song called "The Blizzard" that just blows my mind. Love "Shanghai Breezes" as well. The 1966 demo is amazing. He had his hits and misses but to get all these in one block is a dream! Man you presented this well. I have got to get this set! Blaine, Tutt, Scheff, & Burton. Sounds like a law firm but really it's the best of the best when it comes to session guys. I have (in some form) all the albums except for the last release (just after "All Aboard") "Love Again" which would later be re-released as his final recordings under different titles but omitting 4 songs or so. I'm rambling (as "This Old Guitar" goes flying through my head) but thanx for the post. So looking forward to your upcoming series on the individual albums. Man this was good. I was wondering about this compilation but now I am totally considering this collection. Thanx my friend, and until next time, take care!
Thanks Kincaide! Great post with lots of info! Shanghai Breezes is also a fave of mine. 🍻
Seasons of the Heart from 1982 is still a fantastic album from John Denver in my opinion.
One of my favorites as well!! 😎🙏😊👍
John Denver was an amazing talent. That is a sweet looking box set! It's nice when they have the original gatefolds in these box sets, even if you can't read the text as you say. 😄
Need a magnifying glass! 🔍 ha ha! 😆
Super video Matthew. I have the first issue of this box set from 2012.. That had a side opening outer box not a clamshell like yours here. You are right the greatest hits collection had some songs re-recorded and TGIACB on GH2 is the live version from AEWJD (I have a promo LP of that on vinyl). The extra tracks on the 2nd CD of AEWJD are from a concert at Red Rocks. Be nice to chat all things JD sometime! Cheers, Colin.
Very cool info Colin! Thank you! 🙏 I’m loving this set. It’s reignited my passion for John and his music. Cheers 🍻
This was great, Mathew!! I was ten when I started getting into John Denver when my sister had his first greatest hits album. Then When I was 11 my mom got Back Home Again and Windsong. Love his music. It's been a huge part of my life.
Great to hear Denny! Thanks!😊
Like you, I was 11 years old in 1972 and I loved John Denver also, Matt. I still love many of his songs. You are 100% right: if it makes us happy to listen to it, THAT is what we should listen to, period. Life is too short to do otherwise. Love your videos, my friend. Jeff
Great sentiments Jeff, thanks! 😊 🙏
I was 10 and I adored him! Still do❤❤❤❤❤

Fantastic box, enjoy it Matthew. I appreciate the forthcoming album reviews very much👍🏻
, Yes, I’ll be starting with his autograph album from 1980 very soon. Thank you so much for watching.🙏😎👍❤️😊
I just found out a week or so ago that a song I sang in elementary school music class was "The Garden Song" and John Denver played it on Sesame Street, video is here on RUclips!
Garden Song is fantastic!! ☘️😎👍😊🙏❤️
I just own a greatest hits album and that will do for me, but I absolutely love Leaving On A Jet Plane and Peter,Paul and Mary’s version brings back some special memories when it was a U.K. top 5 hit in early 1970.
Great songs David! 😎🙏😊🍻
Love John Denver! I’ve just paid around £50-100 for nearly all his albums on vinyl. His music is magical ❤ really wish they’d release ‘Earth Songs’ and his later albums on vinyl. I’d buy them in a second!
Howdy Adam! Thanks for being here! Yes it appears none of his Windstar label releases are on vinyl. I’d love to see that happen! Especially Different Directions! Glad you’re enjoying his catalog! 🎇🍻❤️🎆💥☘️😊😎🙏👍
In the 70s in Choir it was all about singing John Denver songs. Grandma Feathers Bed was the big one Quite the box Matt
Thanks Steve! It’s a fab set and great value with 24 albums in it! Cheers 🍻
What a pristine looking collection! I'd love to have that one!
Shop around for a deal! 😊👍
Love Denver's work. Watching this got me to put on a great 2 cd compilation of his work while you go over the set. Thanks for showing love to someone who I think is a very underrated/underappreciated singer/songwriter. I think because of that "thank god I'm a country boy" TV show image he had he was overlooked by the critics.. I've never been a diehard but I love his stuff. I remember as a kid when my mom bought his first greatest hits album in 1973 and we just played that album over and over. First songs that got me to listen to and appreciate country sounding music. Sunshine on my shoulders and Rocky Mountain High are still 2 songs of his that still blow me away every time I hear them. And there are others, Follow Me, My Sweet Lady, Annie's Song, Gospel Changes, Goodbye Again etc. The funny thing, do we hear ANY music made today with such simplicity, honesty, and beauty? Sad that today his music is really sort of forgotten.
A very gifted songwriter, up there with Lennon & McCartney, Dylan, Carole King.. I could go on. We have this treasure trove that is his music that he left for all of us. After watching Matt's vid I found myself re visiting his albums and listening to him on my commute to work. An amazing artist who touches my heart with his music, that's for sure...
Great post, and you’re right, the world needs John’s music and messages now more than ever! 😎👍🙏😊🍻
Thanks Terry, so happy to hear it inspired you to listen again!!! Cheers 🍻
Enjoyed your video on this Denver release! Never a huge fan but enjoy a few of his songs! Always enjoy your videos on other releases besides the Beatles Of all the Beatles channels you talk about new releases of other artists and more wider variety of music than just the Beatles
Thanks Dave. I love The Beatles, but these channels that do 100% Beatles bore me. And I don’t wanna be boring so I mix things up a bit. Cheers 🍻
I hope RCA.. did the right thing and remastered the music.
Not sure GK. I’m no audiophile, so these discs sound good to my aging ears. Maybe someone here can help out and give us the lowdown on whether they were remastered or not. Maybe when the box initially came out in 2011 they were?? Cheers 🍻
Actually his first greatest hits compilation which his best selling album came out in November 1973. It was his first US # 1 album out of a total of three.
A great compilation! 😎🙏😊🍻
Great video! I hppe one of the albums you deep dive is Arie. I had a friend in the early 80s from Vuetnam who was a huge JD fan and that was his favorite album.
I will Jeff. I promise. For your friend. Cheers, Matt (I’ll try to make it my 2nd one, already working on first) 😎👍😊🙏
I started watching this and then I had to stop because I wanted to buy it and check it out before finishing the video. What a great set. I have already listened to the first 5 albums!! WOW what great songs he wrote. Some great music by John Denver…only album missing is The muppets with John Denver Christmas album…that must of been released on the Kermit/Piggy label!! 😂😂Enjoy! I’m loving the music!! 😎
Glad you enjoyed it! He really is missed! What a fabulous legacy of wonderful inspiring music! 😊🙏🍻❤️☘️😎👍
Thanks matt
Wowza!! Great set there Matt......John was a great singer/songwriter right up there with Gordon Lightfoot ....cheers ☮️❤️🍻😳☺️
19:05 I bought Dreamland Express for my Mom (a big JD fan) as a Christmas present.
That’s fantastic! When I first got it, I wasn’t sure if I liked it, but it has grown on me quite a bit over the years.👍😎😊🍻🙏
Im a John Denver Fan and Im a big Matthew Street Fan👍👌✌️
Oh my goodness, Ernie, my friend! I am so touched by your kindness. Thank you, thank you, thank you so very much for the nice and very generous tip! You are one of my best viewers, subscribers, and friends here. I will give you a special shout out in my next video! All the best to you and those you love, Matt .😊🙏❤️
@@matthewstreet1961✌️🤜🤛
@erniericardo8140 it will be in my John Denver new review tomorrow!! 😊❤️👍
Very nice cd box set from the Country Boy, John Denver! And great t-shirt as well! Enjoy listening to it all, I'm sure you will have a good ol' time, Matt! Enjoy your Wednesday! 🍻 Allan
Thanks Allan! 😊🙏
@@matthewstreet1961 You're welcome Matt! I have a special video coming up just for you by tomorrow! 🙂
@@allanc.records8484 look forward to it!
Thank you so much for this video Matt. That is a box set I shall look out for. I have the first greatest hits album on vinyl that was my parents album, they both loved John Denver. He seemed to be on TV here in the UK quite a lot in the 70's and was a very successful artist over here. I do have a lot of those albums already on CD, but I will be looking at getting this box, it really is a thing of beauty. He was an incredible artist and a great songwriter, and his covers of Beatles, and in particular Paul McCartney songs were outstanding versions, he was clearly a fan and was influenced by them. As with John Lennon, for me John Denver is a much missed artist, taken from us way too soon. I, for one shall be looking forward to your series on these albums, so thank you for this Matt. In the meantime I shall be giving my John Denver albums a spin in preparation for this wonderful series that I know that it will be. You take care Matt, and Peace n Love to you, Mrs Street and all the other little streets......
Fantastic Terry! Thank you so much for your wonderful post. And I am so happy you may be listening to some John Denver before I start my little review series. That means a lot thank you. Take care.🙏😎👍😊
I was hoping to do a collab video talking about this... but I forgot to text you! This video makes me glad that I bought it!
And yes, this is a solid set. Discovering and re-discovering deep cuts. Farewell, Andromeda has the worst cover of all the JD albums (in my opinion)
Oops! 😬 sorry, I got it and was excited to show it! 😎👍
I hate the It’s About Time cover!
@@matthewstreet1961 That's totally an early '80s RCA album cover. Looks like it was quickly thrown together 10 minutes before it went to press. They probably had the template in their computer and just removed the pic of Ronnie Milsap and replaced it with JD!
great vidio matt. the great hal blaine from holyoke mass near were im from
That’s right! What a talent. John was smart to link up with Hal. Cheers 🍻
Hey Matt, its good to see the band's we love or have grown up on, and you exemplify that side Brother. my question is: Which are your 10 favourite British groups vs your 10 fav US groups, post Beatles and rank them in a top 20. Love your content as always. Lee
Fabulous suggestion! I will have to give it some thought. Take care.🙏😎👍❤️😊
Looks fantastic..thanks for sharing and now I have to go and find it. My allowance is spent
It's so good Robert! 😎😊🙏🍻
Wonderful collection and great review. Rocky Mountain High's tempo in 1972 and the early years of playing was just perfect. I think it lost some of its meaning and charm when he started to play it at a faster tempo.
Thanks for being here my friend. 😎👍🍻
Hey Matt, another great topic. Now, I have never owned any John Denver records but one of my sisters had Poems Prayers and Promises album and I played that to death. I loved that album. Probably around 1972 when I was just starting high school. It had: Take me Home Country Roads, Sunshine on my Shoulders a couple of Beatle covers. The whole album was great. In my mind I can still hear him singing My Sweet Lady. Anyways, just my 2 cents, Great great album.
That’s one of his best Jake! You should pull it out and listen again! Cheers 🍻
@@matthewstreet1961 - Ha! That album is long gone. She's up in Mass, I'm in Fla. But I might shop around for it on ebay.
@@jake105 where in Mass? That’s where I’m from. It’s a great album, I listened to it today at work driving around. 😎🙏
@@matthewstreet1961 - Oh cool! She lives in Weymouth, but we all grew up in Hull Mass. Nantasket Beach/Paragon Park baby🎢
@@jake105 Weymouth, nice! Love Hull, I go there quite a bit. I like seeing The Midnight Callers at the C- Note across the street from the beach!! Cheers 🍻
I never knew of Hal Blaine’s association with Denver. I do have a few albums. His music has never really connected with me but I’ll soon spin some in honor of your enthusiasm and love for his music.
Thanks for giving JD a spin!! Cheers 🍺❤️😊
I’ve been doing some research and uncovered some familiar names on the two albums Denver released in 1970 - namely Denny Seiwell and David Spinozza. This was obviously right before they worked with Paul!
Thanks i just order it!
I hope you love it!! Enjoy my friend! 😊🙏😎👍❤️
What about Live At The Sydney Opera House (1977) and Christmas With The Muppets (1979)? Both were originally put out by RCA
Yeah I was surprised the Muppet one wasn’t here. The Sydney one came out after his final “regular” RCA album in 86 I believe. Cheers 🍻
I have the original boxset that came out in 2012, i don't remember how the booklet looks but i do know that the boxset art is the same but boxset self is little different because I can see the cd's numberd inside the boxset, but the rest is all the same.
Thanks for the info! 🙏👍😊❤️
I just ordered John Denver box set for 97.00 plus tax
Great deal Ray!! Enjoy! It’s wonderful! 🍺😎👍
How is the sound? Is it compressed or nice and clean? My original JD box set had mediocre sound at best.
I am no audiophile, so hard for me to say. I have to assume when the set originally came out in 2011, it was remastered. So I am assuming they are using the same remastering from then. It sounds good to my old aging ears though! Ha ha! Maybe someone else here can shed some more light on the sound of it. 😎👍😊🙏
my too no shame in it
No shame whatsoever!! Cheers 🍻
