    Another enjoyable video Tone, agree with Mal in thanking you for introducing me to Narina Pallot.
    Havent any of these albums, was often tempted to buy Single Man on picture vinyl but never did.
    Armed Forces is only EC album I have.
    The Who, got a few but not the boobies 😂 one, although having original The Story of The Who, I couldnt resist RSD release on coloured vinyl.
    Like you, Im a sucker for coloured vinyl.
    Look forward to next video, unboxing of Slow Hand Clapping on Friday maybe.

      Armed forces is a cracker probably my second or third favourite Elvis album. Boobies 😂😂 I also have the Story of The Who from back in the day but i managed to resist getting the RSD release of it this time. Fingers crossed that OHC arrives on Friday and if it does it will be unboxed here of course

I really like MBB&B by the Who ...on Track too ..got mine in 1971 when it came out...love the early Who stuff...in particular the half speed masters of their records....enjoy spinning those platters and have a great day!!!!... Hi Tone glad to see you buying The Up Escalator by Graham Parker. I love this album and still have my original vinyl copy from 1980, along with Squeezing Out Sparks and the live Parkerilla set. The Up Escalator marks the start of his music acquiring more of an American feel (produced by Jimmy Iovine with Springsteen and the E Street Band appearing on it). The last two tracks Empty Lives and The Beating Of Another Heart I absolutely played to death back in the day. His next album Another Grey Area I admit I don't have - but I should as although it's not thought to be one of his best it does contain the sublime single Temporary Beauty which is one of my total favourites. All the best

      Hi Richard I now have all the early albums up to The Up Escalator ,but like you, that's where I dipped out. I picked up GP again in the noughties and he made some great albums when he move to America and like you say they have an American feel to them. Albums like Your Country and DOnt Tell Columbus are great Deepcut to Nowhere and Songs of No Consequence also really good. He played a gig about 400 metres from my house on the Squeezing Out Sparks tour when i was 18 and more recently saw him on the Three chords Good tour. A great artist who again doesn't get enough credit

    The Crowded House album cover has a bit of a Revolver vibe going. I was a bit disappointed when you were doing your multiple Paul Weller albums. I was hoping for one more “and it doesn’t even end there” And then you say “I happen to have Paul Weller right here in the room” And then he walks into the shot. 😉 I haven’t heard everything Elvis has done but probably my favorite album by him is Mighty Like A Rose. Has my favorite co write with Macca … So Like Candy. And possibly my favorite EC song Couldn’t Call It Unexpected No. 4.

      I hadn't really picked up on Revolver thing on the Crowded House album Michael, but yes, you're absolutely right. How did i miss that? The thing about Paul Weller actually being in the room literally made me laugh out loud - good one and thank you. I really like Mighty Like the Rose which I think was the follow up to the Spike album that I show in this video, but its not my favourite - that would be This Years Model. I like punky Elvis.

    I was a kid in the states who like everybody, loved the Who's Tommy. Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy was a revelation of the Who's early sound to American ears in 1971. The only USA hits at that time were "I Can See for Miles" & "Pinball Wizard." "My Generation" is still powerful today even though the production/sonic quality wasn't tip-top.

    I don’t know Nerrina Pellot at all, but always looking to expand my horizons - beatlesque or not.
    I haven’t heard 66 yet, but I preordered it and it’s waiting for me when I get home from the short holiday I’m on in western Australia this week - where I unexpectedly found a UK first pressing mono Revolver in the wild. 😳
    I stopped paying much attention to Crowded House after Together Alone, but am now curious to give the new album a spin
    A Single Man is a bit of a forgotten gem isn’t it. Unbelievably, I never actually made the Steve Holly connection 🤔
    I always loved Spike but never hear it getting much love from Costello aficionados. The packaging of your new copy looks like a big improvement in quality over my ‘89 original.

    Sir, I salute you on your purchases and on your musical tastes. Some very fine records there indeed. I got Paul Weller's 66 on release day and am still playing it, great album, as you say a chilled vibe to it, and I must say it brings out another, deeper texture and tone to his voice, really like it, though my favourite Weller album will always be Stanley Road. Nerina Pallot sounded familiar, then I realised I'd seen her in support of Sheryl Crow as well, when Sheryl played The Shepherds Bush Empire pre covid. will have to check out her albums. Wasn't aware of a new Crowded House album, so thanks for that. Love these guys and like yourself have seen them so many times, was due to see them in may of '20 and then that pesky pandemic stopped everything. They are one of those bands rather like Del Amitri who have a very special place in my heart as their music evokes some very good memories for me of seeing live bands. Deep Purple, what was it with us kids back in the day? All of us at school also had a copy of Deep Purple In Rock. Still got my copy, though I'll need to upgrade it as back then I played the hell out of it. I'm sure that Elvis Costello's album Spike came out around the same time as Flowers In The Dirt, as I seem to remember buying both almost at the same time. Have a great weekend Tone and happy listening to all those fab records. I do have one question, that could become a bit of a tag. Are there any bands/artists that you dismissed/overlooked first time around that you now have gone back to and really enjoy and like? This year for me it has been ABBA and The Bee Gees. Really enjoying both these bands now guess it's something about getting older that does this, as I have found that my musical tastes expanding into other areas, that 10/15 years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of going. Anyhow thanks for this vid and thanks for sharing with us what you have bought. Bye for now and roll on next Friday when hopefully we all get our hands on One Hand Clapping....

      Thank you Terry glad you enjoyed the video mate. Yes i think Weller's voice sounds great on this album and it really does feel like a bit of a change of direction for him. Wild Wood is my favourite with Stanley second. Wow I didn't release that Nerina had supported Sherryl Crow twice ! When we saw her it was around 2005. Yes do give Nerina a listen, Fires and I don't know What Im Doing are the best albums to start with. I think you'll really like her.
      I was also due to see Crowed House (at the Roundhouse London) in June 2020, that gig eventually took place in 2022 and was great. Yes everyone at school was either into prog or heavy rock - i hated prog but i quite liked a bit of rock. You absolutely right, Spike was from 1989 same year as Flowers in the Dirt.
      Probably loads of bands that i dismissed first time round but the ones that spring to mind are The Smiths and Billy Bragg. Ignored with these in the 80s, love them both now. Funnily enough Mrs BT is an Abba fan and the first record she ever bought was How Deep is your Love !! Coincidence? Thanks for a great comment Terry and have a great weekend mate

    Off topic but: RIP Françoise Hardy. The great woman of chanson of the 60s died with 80 years after a fight with cancer where she couldn't sing in her last years. Besides her early beat music that made her popular and part of the yéyé-girl scene she was an style icon of her time, admired by Bob Dylan who sended her hopeless love letters and refused to continue the concert if she won't talk to him backstage. Also admired by Mick Jagger and David Bowie, the Beatles met her aswell with Paul going to dinner with her when they played in Paris 1965. She also did a fine duet with the band Blur called "To The End (La Comedie)". Five of her best songs:
    1. Tous les garçons et les filles (1962, her breakthrough hit with only 18 years in beat music style, the album was mostly written by her, a year before the Beatles relasted their first and only half self written album)
    2. Le temps de l'amour (1962, got more popular with the Wes Anderson film Moonrise Kingdom and a modern remix)
    3. Mon amie la rose (1964, slow and melancholic song)
    4. Comment te dire adieu (1968, another great hit with good orchstration, an original english song redone by french master Serge Gainsbourg)
    5. Message personnel (1973, a very mature and good song after her hype)

    Nice video. You seem to be picking up some interesting items.
    I'll focus in on Paul Weller. I used to be a big fan of The Jam and it was a blow when they split. In retrospect perhaps it ensured, like a certain other group, there was no sad decline. They bowed out at the top. I did meet the band once in HMV prior to a gig. They signed a record for me and Paul also signed the ticket.
    The Style Council never really appealed to me but perhaps I should go back and have another go. I have picked up a few solo records and have enjoyed some of them, but like yourself have not felt that everything has hit home. That said, I am glad that he is still around and making music. I'm going to return to some of his work now that you have reminded me of him! I guess that the problem at my age is that there is so much great music to choose from. Sometimes things get unfairly left on the shelf!
    I'm going to check out Nelina Pallot too, now that you have recommended her.

At the same time Warner Records released 5 of the 6 Elvis Costello's studio albums plus one compilation album Extreme Honey originally released on Warner Records on coloured vinyl. Other than Spike, Mighty Like The Rose, All This Useless Beauty and Extreme Honey albums were released on gold vinyl, Juliet Letters was released on purple vinyl and Kojak Variety on turquoise vinyl. Brutal Youth had been released a few years earlier on red vinyl a few years earlier. All the albums (including Brutal Youth) were on Music On Vinyl label with the studio albums being limited to 2500 copies while Extreme Honey was limited to 4000 copies. I have all the studio albums coloured vinyl versions except for Brutal Youth which is harder to find due to being released a couple of years earlier. I have no interest in the Extreme Honey album. My Australian first vinyl release of Spike was a single disc release with 1less track.

      Hi Matthew, thanks for the info on these Elvis albums. I have all those albums (except the comp) on CD and didn't know they had all been released on coloured vinyl. Shame Brutal Youth is hard to find as that would be my favourite from that bunch. I go up to Punch the Clock on original vinyl but then the cds kick in. I also hadn't seen that 66 had a green vinyl. Nice that you picked up Spike on Green too. Great information and great post my friend.

    Hi Tone
    Agree on the first three Paul Weller Albums. Like yourself I’ve followed all phases! The Jam are still so important to me and I still have my full singles collection... his solo career is interesting and I have most of it but stopped after True Meanings... I think losing the amazing Steve White as drummer and replacing his band with members of the Moons was an odd choice. I’d have replaced Craddock! I haven’t got the last three albums you recommended....maybe I should give them a try!
    I’ll gratefully accept one of your ‘66’ albums if it’s going begging?😊

      I love the Jam. Was lucky enough to see them live 4 times . I definitely agree about Steve White - Im not sure what happened there but what a fantastic drummer he is. So young when he joined the Style Council but some of the work he does on those early Weller solo albums (particularly Wild Wood) is outstanding. Personally i like Steve Craddock as a guitarist both with Weller and Ocean Colour Scene who i discovered supporting Weller back in the early 90s. I do have a taker for the 66 album Nigel, but if he changes his mind I'll give you a shout.

    I have Spike but mine is an original German pressing so only a single album on coloured vinyl, the colour being black. I also have a couple of copies of Bridge Over Troubled Water, a UK one and a Dutch pressing. The Dutch one is a bit better than the UK one but it's still not perfectly silent, which is ironic considering one of Simon & Garfunkel's hits was Sound Of Silence. I do like Spike but it's not my favourite Elvis Costello album. Blood & Chocolate or My Aim Is True alternate as my favourite. I actually have Blood & Chocolate on vinyl, CD and the limited edition cassette in the chocolate bar wrapper. That got pulled very quickly when the record company was threatened with legal action by Cadbury's.

Obviously what you play them on (and this goes for records too) plays a big part but this applies to records as well . With Purple i dont have much on record 24 carat Purple, made in japan , made in Europe and i think thats it. On Cd i go from in rock to stormbringer and im done. Trying to pick up some more purple vinyl but i want analogue as i guess the new reissues are just digital transfers in other words 12” CDs😂 pretty expensive to get good ones from the 70s but its a mission

    Hello Tone,
    One of the reasons MBB&B does not sound good, there are lots of reprocessed stereo tracks in them grooves (so, mono with bass a heavy RHS channel & oudles of reverb in the other) and the masters of the others were not available as it was a rush release. The name is not the double entendre it may 1st appear - its the bands nick names:
    Meaty = Roger Daltrey
    Beaty = Keith Moon
    Big = John Entwhistle
    Bouncy = Pete Townshend
    I'm sure the double entendre was however, not lost on the band - if you want a good Who comp, look out for the "Story of the Who", cheap as chips for a double and sounds great.
    No booklet with your Honky Chateau? An easy way to check if its an OG, hold the vinyl up to the light and it should be a translucent red and mine has a textured sleeve.
    Keep up the good work.
    Russell.

    • @beatleytonesbeatleschannel
      @beatleytonesbeatleschannel  Месяц назад

      Hi Russell , Im thoroughly disappointed about un-rude interpretation of the album title. I have The Story of The Who which i bought back in the day when it came out. I remember the Tv ad had an exploding pinball machine if I remember correctly .
      No booklet and Im on holiday now so can check for the translucent red but it does have a textured sleeve. To be honest, I don't really get what the big deal of OG is anyway. As long as the album sounds great, which it does , that's all i care about. cheers Russell

    • @Russell__Smith
      @Russell__Smith Месяц назад

      @beatleytonesbeatleschannel Oh! I agree, I too am not hung up on OGs v re-issues and I agree there are many reissues better than OGs and to that end the re-issue of Honky Chateau is actually better than the OG. I was giving you a pointer if it was an OG or not. The reason the record could be translucent red when held up to the light is DJM had an arrangement with Pye to press their records and at the time Pye were only adding the minimum amounts of graphite as well cutting in a groove cramned manner.
      Cheers

      Maybe we'll get to make that video Kier, sounds like fun. I just can't make myself like Saturn's Pattern. I played a few of the albums today that I hadn't heard for a while and had previously dismissed SP being one of them. I think it's that distorted guitar that is on so many tracks that kills it for me apart from there not being any strong melodies on it . Wild Wood is my fave. Mrs Beatley Tone has since corrected me the blue vinyl wasn't free as i said in the video, there was a price for a ticket with the record and a lower price for just a ticket no record. So i will work out the difference and just ask for that if you still want it. She thinks it's £24 but we're on holiday atm so not sure. I'll message you when we get back mate

    Hi again Tone - always nice to see bits of your other vinyl collection.
    I have a comment & a question.
    Meaty Beauty etc, I got that LP in 1971, "The Seeker" was their most recent track on it. The sound is indeed crap on the songs "electronically reprocessed" (similar to the last 3 songs on Side 2 of Capital's MMT LP) - £10 eh? A fortune back in 1971 when my weekly paper-round paid £1.15, & a "proper" LP cost around £1.60 ISH, but TOTP 12 track monthly compilation LP's were around 65p from Woolies.
    Q. You say you'd cleaned many of your records. Did you use the old Emitex cloth, or something else? Maybe you could do a future video on how you clean your vinyl.
    Re Elton, I have all his LP's from 1968 - 83 (including Sgt Zippo) though I do think his album output peaked with Captain Fantastic, then went slowly downhill from Westies. Great packaging though.
    Best wishes x

    • @beatleytonesbeatleschannel
      @beatleytonesbeatleschannel  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Tone, thanks very much Im glad you enjoyed the video. yes you're right The Seeker is the youngest track on Meaty, not sure why but I have always thought that came out in 1967. LPs were about £2.50 when i stared buying them but also had a few of those dreadful TOTP records from Woolies that weren't by the original artists.
      I have actually done a video on how i clean my records. Its fairly recent from around January of this year and you can watch it here if you want to
      ruclips.net/video/WSrR--CEUKE/видео.html
      I would actually say Elton's albums peaked at Goodbye Yellow Brick road but obviously that doesn't mean there weren't great albums that followed . I guess everyone has their favourites.
      cheers Tone

    • @TheSupertone1
      @TheSupertone1 Месяц назад

      @@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Thanks Tone. I must have missed your record cleaning upload despite being subscribed with "notifications".
      Re the TOTP's covers LP's, they were very popular in the early '70's & each month would regularly feature in Top 20 Album lists, till they were magically "excluded" under some new rule that only "allowed" original artists. Cynics noted that it didn't't stop other artists doing cover songs entering the Album charts though. Of course K-Tel eventually killed off the TOTP's range.
      Cheers!
