Good morning, humanity. You seem to have missed 2009 live album "Good Evening, New York City!" from which that track "Hey Jude" was taken from. Paul's vocal on that album is heavily auto-tuned on each and every song.

Yes I agree with you. I accidentally deleted that part of my post a my comment was alays ridiculous long. Maybe because I followed wi with a rather harsh criticsm about Paul doing that. Do you remember the furore over his use of autotun on that entire album. And the album suffers terribly for it. I did not though pick up that this was that precise recording so thank you for bringing that fact to our attention.
I believe perfction in music is a terrible thing. Human flaws give soul and authentic feeling to a performance.

Yes good evening New York is embarrassing with its heavy handed auto tune. Also “amoeba gig” has autotune/melodyne on every track although a bit more subtle. There doesn’t appear to be any on One Hand Clapping thank god.
@paulaidenmusic Absolutely on the same wavelength as you Paul and Matthew. I could hear it on that live album straight away and believe me I’m no expert audiophile. I don't think I own the album anymore. I am glad some people care about this trend, but I wish more did. It is one huge leap from production techniques that enhance performance, but this is not enhancement but rather changing what is. It leaves the door wide open for anyone to think they're a singer. It will come full throttle if it hasn't already. Another commentator below asked a very good question; Will old songs be rerecorded with AI and autotune? My guess will be yes because in the end the dollar rules over the product and in this case authenticity. We had progressed to a point where now we are simply devolving - instead of us using technology in great ways to maximise human talent and effort, we are letting technology use us to replace or at the very least diminish human artistic talent and skills. In effect dehumanising the arts - the Arts; what should be the essence of creative humanity, not computer trickery. What saddens me more I don't agree with those who say Paul should tour for as long as he likes - In my opinion, not if that involves an ever-increasing reliance on technology, including autotune to cover the unavoidable pitfalls that comes to us all. That called ageing. One reason I love the song Early Days is it's less than more production and no autotune to my knowledge and ears. It's the perfect song to sing with authenticity and real human soul.
Just wondering but is Ringo using autotune on hie eps as I don't buy Ringo's music, but I am curious.
Thanks to all those who have left a comment on Matt’s channel and especially those aware of what is most likely going to be the outcome unless the masses begin to care abiout authenticity and the importance of human creativity withall it's 'faults' and 'inflections' . I saw Paul on Off The Ground and he was phenomenal. I then saw him on the one on one tour, and will never go see him again. No auto tune, but he refuses to drop the key on songs he recorded when he was in his early 20’s. His singing voice is shot
Paul is a musical genius,he can still play and compose great things. All of the cannabis and tobacco use has combined with age to rob him of his amazing vocal instrument. I agree,drop the key and you will produce a better product.

Matt, I agree that music used to be real. When you heard a record, you were hearing the singer actually sing. They could soften a voice with reverb, but there was no auto-tune. I'm sure you're right that this was an after-the-fact addition of autotune to Paul already being recorded. One thing I have to comment on: You asked if we can have life back to when "everything was natural and pure and innocent and true?" You would have to go very, VERY far back for that. Things weren't pure, nor innocent nor true in the 60s, or even before that. Early rock radio had its "playola" scandal before the Beatles made records, and US TV had a scandal with game shows being rigged in the 50s. Washington, D.C. had its "Teapot Dome" scandal in the 1920s, and there were the "robber baron" bigshot businessmen consolidating companies and crushing competition back in the 1890s. Well, you get the idea. As always, I appreciate your enthusiasm and love for the Beatles.

for reminding us this was done on the album Good Evening New York. I remember on nearly every Macca site there were arguments flying all over the place about this. I personally hate that album for this reason and so much so took it to an op shop and gave it away. It is devoid of soul. Whe McCartney gets to 1081 will the syncophants still be defending him doing live performances. There is a time for everything and a time for eveything to end. That is a fact of life even if many find it too hard to accept. Paul's influence on thousands of other muicians will last, but I hope his foray into autotune isn't one of them.
Do others recall the debate at the time was whether McCartney had indeed used autone or not. Well Pegasus has answered that question and proved that McCartney had.

I think people who pay to see Paul live these days know full well his voice is shot to bits. It was probably better to stay ignorant of the fact if autotune is now used at his concerts. I think fans are making the most of just being able to see him now. Who knows how long he’s got on this earth ?

Original Beatles tracks are rarely licensed for use in ads so I guess they had to use a solo live track instead. But IMHO they should have used a track that didn't need autotune/pitch correction.

To my knowledge, the songs have NOT changed hands. I think what McCartney agreed to in the settlement was to keep the songs with Sony/ATV but to receive a better writer’s share of the revenues.
Rights for Hey Jude: Paul McCartney and Sony/ATV own the publishing rights. Apple Records (a subsidiary of the jointly-McCartney/Starr/Yoko/Olivia Harrison-owned) Apple Corps) owns the sync rights.
So if Paul is a subsidiary i.e. own rights in conjunction with Sony/ATV who have their share would Paul have to had approved the use of the song in this commerical?

The surviving Beatles, own those rights, along with a few record companies - as well as the estates of those Beatles who have passed away.

I really hope they've got permission to use Hey Jude on this ad. This dosen't sound Kosher to me if you know what I mean. Paul is 82 and naturally his voice like everything else has aged, and I'm sure that he now has to perform in a different pitch and probably key. But this sounds like it's been tinkered with without Paul's permission. Jude Bellingham, how lame and tenuous is the link here, and he's not even that good a player. I'm an Englishman and I'm not following this tournament, and England usually screw up in these things, so I don't give much creedence to any of it.

I watched Fil's video a couple nights ago and couldn't believe what I was hearing. By the way Fil has a great channel. Been watching him for a long time. Yeah that auto-tune is just god awful. Someone said in the comments that that's been used on one of Paul's live albums I hope that's not true. No auto-tune or pitch correction Paul. Paul definitely knew about this or at least he does now. I've been listening to this version of Hey Jude (Live at Citifield NYC 2009) for over a decade. It's always been pitch corrected. That whole live album was pitch-corrected. This youtube video is just using a sensational headline to make old news sound like new news. All they really did was use an old vocal from a pitch corrected live performance from 2009. This is not necessarily a new revelation. Kisses on the Bottom uses it a bit as well. I'm pretty sure it's just the isolated vocal from the Live in New York 2009 concert.

I don't think added much to the original 2009 version. all they did was isolate the vocal and add some reverb. Yes, it's a hard listen when you expose the vocal like that, but it's not a different edit to the actual live album which paul and his team released officially. The original live album has the pitch correction already.

Wings Over America had a lot of vocals re-recorded in studio later because they didn't have autotune back in 1976, but it's not the real original vocals on that record either. Are we going to trash WOA because of that trick?
