George was my favorite not just because he was a brilliant musician and songwriter, but because my next door neighbors ( back in the 60's) were friends of his parents. They both visited and stayed with them when they took their yearly trip to England. They also met George and saw him during his visits to his parents and said he was a very "nice boy, very polite and respectful." Mrs Harrison used to write Mrs. Wheeler (my neighbor) letters. After one arrived I was invited over to the house and she would read it to me . I got to hear every letter she received from Mrs. Harrison. It was a wonderful treat every time I was invited. George was also the only Beatle my mother would let me listen to when he went solo, due in great part to Mrs. Wheeler's experiences with the Harrisons. MY greatest joy is that Ringo remained friends with George right up until he died, a very sad day for me and all of his other faithful fans.
I too adore George, and honestly Ringo is such a mensch, so devoted to George (playing on so many of his albums too), how can anyone help but love him? None of this "like a baby brother" rubbish when they're all grown-@$$ men!

The first time that I listened to the song "Something", I believed that the Beatles had reached the pinnacle of all recorded music with that song. I had never paid it much attention who wrote what or even who played what, as long as it was the Beatles. But when I heard the line "Something in the way she moves me" and the way the music leads up to that phrase. It was something that spoke from the SOUL, you could feel it in your heart. Yes, George definitely developed through the years, but the missing factor it seems in this video is the vocal quality of Lennon and McCartney comparison with Harrison. John and Paul weren't just two great songwriters, they were two of the greatest rock vocalists ever. George wasn't. Though I do love his voice.
I loved "I Need You" and sang it and played it on my guitar in the early 90s for my girlfriend. I just love the melody. But the first song George wrote which could have been a HIT single was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
I discovered over time that many of my very favorite Beatles songs were written by George. He had as much talent as the others, without question. During his solo work and his time with the Traveling Wilburys he was still doing Beatles level work, while the others weren’t any longer.
"And I Love Her" was Paul's composition but the guitar riff and guitar solo were George's. Paul said without the guitar riff the song will not sound as good as it was.
And george is not predisposed to do extended solos. He was a song guitarist..much like ringo is a song drummer. He contributes guitar parts apt to a song. Minimalistic but standout nonetheless. I still cant get over his solo on till there was you....short but sweet.
But that wasn't even real Paul, who died in a car crash in 1966. The replacement fake Paul was already being called "FAUL" by 1968 by the other Beatles, by 1968.
And in the same vein, Paul's bass on Something takes the song to another level and Paul's high harmonies take George's somewhat limited vocal range to new heights.
Here comes the sun is probably my favourite. Without George's contribution the Beatles would have lacked an essential part of it like the distinctive Indian touch.
Within You And Without You is simply phenomenal. A wonderful track that showed me as a teenager a path to sanity in a world I couldn’t relate to. Musically it is impeccable

The Stones were considered the bad boys of rock and roll. George was singularly different - an evolving soul finding himself while looking within, for god. With the Stones, it was like professional honor among thieves. I love the Stone who were good to dance to. I adore Joe Cockers music especially later, but I absolutely love George - who he was, his music, what he had to put up with the Beatles, his leadership and spiritual nature. If you're going to incarnate onto this planet, it's reason enough to have familiar connection with a deep soul like George...again - that at least is what it feels like and not just in the Summer of Love. The contrast of George to a crazed intruder must be a hard thing to live with when in such a depraved lost state of mind. Living with crazed fan was very challenging for the Beatles, more so with George. George smoked too many cigarettes for his lungs - love is all you need.

I never looked at the song the same way afterwards because my understanding of the song went from curiosity and respect to realizing there was a lot less creativity that I could credit to George for that recording. But, its no big deal because that is pretty common amongst the large majority of any songwriters you can find. They almost ALL. are guilty of it here or there.

If it wasn't for George, She Said She Said on Revolver wouldn't have sounded nearly as good, he helped John arrange the track showing he could collaborate well.
I'm pretty sure he played bass on that song too. Paul walked out of the recording session but I've never read why he objected to the way it was being done.
I bought my first album at age 10 in 1964. Meet the Beatles. My folks just shook their head but to me it was the best thing to ever come down the pike. Thank you, George p for being part of my childhood

George couldn't even get a break from the Chairman of the Board. George's songs stand the test of time better than either John or Pauls. Many could be released today and still chart. Pauls songs: It's OK to be happy. John's songs: It's OK to be sad. George's songs: It''s OK to _be._ As for Ringo's songs: Well.......he was a good drummer. George's talent was criminally overlooked, under-appreciated, and under-used.

His magnum opus "All Things Must Pass" 3 disc solo LP remains a landmark effort and was a mammoth commercial success as well, popular with critics and fans alike.. Of all the band members' various solo careers, only George Harrison was able to recapture the classic "Beatles sound", as he did with the "Back When We Were Fab" track from the "Cloud Nine" LP. That song sounded like it could have come straight off the 'Magical Mystery Tour' album. NOBODY else in the band was able to do that.

He was "the quiet" Beatle but he spoke volumes of spirituality and love through his music much more than any other Beatle. Good job George ,you outshined Lennon in my eyes and your soul was well grounded . Rest in Spiritual Peace, George and thank you for your peaceful ,thinking man's music.
The thing about George on a spiritual level is his seeking and discovery of his religion. John was a genius but flip flopped his way through various religions and fads. George stuck with what he discovered and believed in till his dying day.George may have had less output than John and Paul but he did achieve some genius level work.
George was younger so he got better and better as he matured which is natural and true of all the Beatles. Each member contributed a great amount to the whole. George grew more secure with himself and his talent while in the group. He almost did not continue with them in the early days and started working in a factory near home but the others came and got him and fortunately he went along. George was not recognized until later but Paul and John said they were sorry they had not given him more credit as well as their producer. If you read their history, it is all there. The best part is that All the Beatles loved each other and remained friends to the end.

i think it was lucky for george and his fans that many of his songs were 'saved' for his first solo album. the whole album (all things must pass) was a qualified treasure of music & philosophy.
You can see in many of their pictures taken, that George is looking in a different direction most, if not all the time. That speaks volumes in the path he chose compared to the other three. My favorites songs of Harrison are. "Here Comes The Sun", "My Sweet Lord" and his earlier one, "Taxman"...
It took only a few years for him to write material as good as John and Paul, not bad considering the situation. Even George Martin admitted he didn't take his songs as seriously I've always loved his writing, a great counterpoint to J&P
"Counterpoint"? Note that Harrison took exclusive songwriting credit for his songs, even when John ("Taxman" as example) helped him with the lyrics. As competitive with each other as John and Paul were, they at least shared credit even when one or the other was the only author of one of their songs.

As a matter of fact, George's & John's songs are the songs I enjoy the most in the Beatles songbook. Even George's early efforts are preferable to me because you can see the development as his songwriting progresses & improves. I Need You, and If I Needed Someone are 2 of the best songs ever - they seem to have a delicate circling back onto itself, so neat, so perfect. Something - must be one of the most covered songs ever.
George was one hell of a song writer. So many great songs he did with the beatles. I've always thought that some songs that George did are underrated. If you listen to the yellow submarine soundtrack The 99 remix and listen to It's all too much it's frigging amazing. Some other fantastic songs 'you like me to much', 'only a northern song' ' I need you' and it just goes on and on. While My guitar gently weeps, something, here comes the sun are masterpieces. I forgot to mention for you blue and i, me, mine.

George is as great as Ringo, John and Paul. They were together only one, with a wonderful fiato, that did the magical music. It wouldn’t have been the same without one of them, every one of them contributed with his soul, sound, creativity and talent to the band. They are musicians, they never introduced themselves as saints, so as all human beings they did great things for the other bandmates and made mistakes among each other as well. They really loved each other, they were friends and became brothers, they grew together for a decade and experienced the same musical adventure. George proved to the world what genius he was in his own right after the Beatles broke up. "All Things Must Pass" is without a doubt one of greatest albums of all time. George is my favorite mop top. On a side note, the first album I bought as a kid was Rubber Soul, for my money the most important album in rock and roll as its format was about a full concept album, not a couple of singles with filler songs to complete the album. George's contribution to the Beatles should never be understated. From the early days in Hamburg, his vocal contributions (lead and backing) were on a par with John & Paul's and his innovative instrumentational contributions outshone many of his contemporaries. The icing on the cake was forming the Travelling Wilburys, which demonstrated how a supergroup should function in total harmony.
George was only 14 years old when Lennon invited him to join the Quarrymen due to his guitar skills. Lennon and McCartney were already writing songs together by then so it's no surprise that they largely ignored his songs in the years that followed. George really should have recorded a solo album or two in the mid-60's. A few successfully solo hits would have boosted his song writing credibility among his fellow bandmates.
I've loved The Beatles for decades, and I guess that George Harrison has emerged as my favorite because I always considered him the "coolest". But let's face it, his songwriting has become world-class over the years.

I Loved every song that George ever wrote. In 1964 when the Beatles were in Memphis, Tennessee My3 cousins and I went to Mid South Coliseum to see the Beatles. My Mother drove going and my Aunt drove going back home to Baton Rouge Louisiana. They were great. The Group called The Circle Red Rubber Ball,,Badfinger, EltonJohn, The Yard Birds and the Beatles came last after every one else finished singing. My favorite Beatle was George and I still love him.

One reason John & Paul rejected George's songs is that they often sounded like something else. The melody of 'While my guitar' reminds me a little of Dusty Springfield's 'I close my eyes & count to ten.' One of his best songs - omitted here - is 'The Inner Light,' which Paul did praise.
After watching Let it Be, I did not approve of the way George was treated. After being bullied at school, I could see how George felt. George was awesome!!!!
The Lennon/McCartney songs were almost always, to one degree or another, a collaboration, something Lennon admitted in one of his final interviews. This is especially obvious if you listen to John's and Paul's solo albums. When the Beatles broke up, they each lost their best editor and the person who could elevate a very good idea to greatness.
@@WaitingtoHit I agree with that! Their solo careers were so disappointing with but a few exceptions. But it's uncanny, when they came back together to over-dub for John's "Free As A Bird", it was like The Beatles were back! And hadn't missed a step! It was brilliant!
The best way to develop and enhance yourself is to work alongside stronger and more advanced people. It will keep you striving to improve. Although it must have been hard it made him into a great songwriter and his songs definitely enriched the Beatles albums. I personally love most of George’s songs especially on revolver (probably my favourite album). I don’t think many people could have competed with Lennon and McCartney in those days so he deserves credit for his strength and commitment in achieving his excellent songs alongside these two powerhouses. Ahhh, _Revolver!_ I went off to college in 1966, and my mom's first call, she asked me what I wanted for my birthday in October. I told her I wanted the new Beatles album, "Revolver". Mom said "Are you sure? Isn't the Beatles sort of a "high school" thing? "Mom, I guarantee you this album is not a 'high school thing.' This is a revolution in music on a par to the one Mozart created." It is true I ended up enjoying Sgt Peppers, White Cover, and Abbey Road a lot, but the magic of Revolver never really dimmed.

It wasn't dismissed at all they broke up and it wasn't the only song practised in the Let it Be sessions that didn't make that album. They all had them on solo albums . George was young and couldn't write good songs at first and had to learn it had nothing to do with being dismissed. Like he said himself. Hate these videos always making out that George was somehow dismissed when he was just the little brother . They had a love for each other none of us will know. They shared the whole experience and nobody knew how they felt but them four lads from Liverpool. The Beatles the greatest band ever. Love them all with equal measure.
I think While My Guitar Gently Weeps was probably his best but he had many great songs. If you make a Beatles album with just his songs, you would still have one of the top Beatles albums ever.
Love all of Harrison's solo stuff later on. It influenced my life so much, that I actually 'became' George Harrison. Tried to sing and compose like him. Tried to look like him. I became staunchly pious and remain so today. Found out that you can't write songs without feeling and expression. Harrison opened up a kind of other world while still remaining human.

George was great, maybe my favorite Beatle for a few years in the 70's, in fact he was. Paul was a superior musician and writer in the band for a long time, kept the band together in fact. This George is under appreciated thing gets kind of old though. George, and all the Beatles, should feel VERY fortunate and blessed to have been in that band, period. Harrison is preaching his "religion" -- but at the same time engaging in extramarital affairs. While making "Living in the Material World," preaching his putative REJECTION of materialism, he was having an affair with Ringo's wife.
Such a "spiritual" guy backstabbing his former bandmate. In contrast, most/all ethical rules originated in "RELIGION".
But it is more common than not that those who make a big deal out of their 'religion" are using it as a cover for what they actually do.

The first time that I listened to the song "Something", I believed that the Beatles had reached the pinnacle of all recorded music with that song. I had never paid it much attention who wrote what or even who played what, as long as it was the Beatles. But when I heard the line "Something in the way she moves me" and the way the music leads up to that phrase. It was something that spoke from the SOUL, you could feel it in your heart. Thank You George!

Yes, George definitely developed through the years, but the missing factor it seems in this video is the vocal quality of Lennon and McCartney comparison with Harrison. John and Paul weren't just two great songwriters, they were two of the greatest rock vocalists ever. George wasn't. Though I do love his voice.

I loved "I Need You" and sang it and played it on my guitar in the early 90s for my girlfriend. I just love the melody. But the first song George wrote which could have been a HIT single was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

I discovered over time that many of my very favorite Beatles songs were written by George. He had as much talent as the others, without question. During his solo work and his time with the Traveling Wilburys he was still doing Beatles level work, while the others weren’t any longer.
"And I Love Her" was Paul's composition but the guitar riff and guitar solo were George's. Paul said without the guitar riff the song will not sound as good as it was.

They didn’t live at a Friar Park.
The Stones were considered the bad boys of rock and roll. George was singularly different - an evolving soul finding himself while looking within, for god. With the Stones, it was like professional honor among thieves. I love the Stone who were good to dance to. I adore Joe Cockers music especially later, but I absolutely love George - who he was, his music, what he had to put up with the Beatles, his leadership and spiritual nature. If you're going to incarnate onto this planet, it's reason enough to have familiar connection with a deep soul like George...again - that at least is what it feels like and not just in the Summer of Love. The contrast of George to a crazed intruder must be a hard thing to live with when in such a depraved lost state of mind. Living with crazed fan was very challenging for the Beatles, more so with George. George smoked too many cigarettes for his lungs - love is all you need.

I never looked at the song the same way afterwards because my understanding of the song went from curiosity and respect to realizing there was a lot less creativity that I could credit to George for that recording. But, its no big deal because that is pretty common amongst the large majority of any songwriters you can find. They almost ALL. are guilty of it here or there.

Although I was a "younger" fan (relatively), George Harrison was my favorite band member.. His magnum opus "All Things Must Pass" 3 disc solo LP remains a landmark effort and was a mammoth commercial success as well, popular with critics and fans alike.. Of all the band members' various solo careers, only George Harrison was able to recapture the classic "Beatles sound", as he did with the "Back When We Were Fab" track from the "Cloud Nine" LP. That song sounded like it could have come straight off the 'Magical Mystery Tour' album. NOBODY else in the band was able to do that.
Yea hes got a way of penetrating the soul, very deep. I love All Things Must pass as well. He was my favorite for years but these days I find it depends on the day and my mood. They each offer something special depending on how you’re feeling.

The thing about George on a spiritual level is his seeking and discovery of his religion. John was a genius but flip flopped his way through various religions and fads. George was younger so he got better and better as he matured which is natural and true of all the Beatles. Each member contributed a great amount to the whole. George grew more secure with himself and his talent while in the group. He almost did not continue with them in the early days and started working in a factory near home but the others came and got him and fortunately he went along. George was not recognized until later but Paul and John said they were sorry they had not given him more credit as well as their producer. If you read their history, it is all there.
The best part is that All the Beatles loved each other and remained friends to the end.

i think it was lucky for george and his fans that many of his songs were 'saved' for his first solo album. the whole album (all things must pass) was a qualified treasure of music & philosophy.
In some way it provided closure to the break up.
You can see in many of their pictures taken, that George is looking in a different direction most, if not all the time. That speaks volumes in the path he chose compared to the other three. My favorites songs of Harrison are. "Here Comes The Sun", "My Sweet Lord" and his earlier one, "Taxman"...
I no longer listen to Abbey Road or anything they recorded after Magical Mystery Tour: Harrison's songs in Abbey Road are by far the best.
It took only a few years for him to write material as good as John and Paul, not bad considering the situation.

As a matter of fact, George's & John's songs are the songs I enjoy the most in the Beatles songbook. Even George's early efforts are preferable to me because you can see the development as his songwriting progresses & improves. It reached his apex in the Beatles with While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun, Something, & the great rocker, Old Brown Shoe. RIP George...you are missed. Love you.

George was one hell of a song writer. So many great songs he did with the beatles. I've always thought that some songs that George did are underrated. If you listen to the yellow submarine soundtrack The 99 remix and listen to It's all too much it's frigging amazing. Some other fantastic songs 'you like me to much', 'only a northern song' ' I need you' and it just goes on and on. While My guitar gently weeps, something, here comes the sun are masterpieces. I forgot to mention for you blue and i, me, mine.

They are musicians, they never introduced themselves as saints, so as all human beings they did great things for the other bandmates and made mistakes among each other as well. They really loved each other, they were friends and became brothers, they grew together for a decade and experienced the same musical adventure. George proved to the world what genius he was in his own right after the Beatles broke up. "All Things Must Pass" is without a doubt one of greatest albums of all time. George is my favorite mop top. On a side note, the first album I bought as a kid was Rubber Soul, for my money the most important album in rock and roll as its format was about a full concept album, not a couple of singles with filler songs to complete the album. George's contributions was integral to the high level of creativity on this album. Great video, thank you!

I loved Old Brown Shoe from the first time I heard it. Even taught myself to read music so I could play that solo.
Eventually all four ended up crushed by the entity called “The Beatles”. George was the first and most obvious of these, but the group was slowly strangling each of its members.

George's songs were always my favorites. I liked him from the start in 1964 when I first knew who he was within the band. My appreciation was only magnified as the years went by in their relatively short run. He was always the less ego, look at me, driven I found. But the songs! that's what it came down to.

George's contribution to the Beatles should never be understated. From the early days in Hamburg, his vocal contributions (lead and backing) were on a par with John & Paul's and his innovative instrumentational contributions outshone many of his contemporaries. The icing on the cake was forming the Travelling Wilburys, which demonstrated how a supergroup should function in total harmony.
I know, right? Without George, there's no iconic 3 part harmony the Beatles were known for.

George was only 14 years old when Lennon invited him to join the Quarrymen due to his guitar skills. Lennon and McCartney were already writing songs together by then so it's no surprise that they largely ignored his songs in the years that followed. George really should have recorded a solo album or two in the mid-60's. A few successfully solo hits would have boosted his song writing credibility among his fellow bandmates.
I've loved The Beatles for decades, and I guess that George Harrison has emerged as my favorite because I always considered him the "coolest". But let's face it, his songwriting has become world-class over the years.
I really liked George. I also find him to be more fascinating than the others. I'm happy to see he's getting his due recognition.

I Loved every song that George ever wrote. In 1964 when the Beatles were in Memphis, Tennessee My3 cousins and I went to Mid South Coliseum to see the Beatles. My Mother drove going and my Aunt drove going back home to Baton Rouge Louisiana. They were great. The Group called The Circle Red Rubber Ball,,Badfinger, EltonJohn, The Yard Birds and the Beatles came last after every one else finished singing. My favorite Beatle was George and I still love him.

One reason John & Paul rejected George's songs is that they often sounded like something else. The melody of 'While my guitar' reminds me a little of Dusty Springfield's 'I close my eyes & count to ten.' One of his best songs - omitted here - is 'The Inner Light,' which Paul did praise.

From what I understand. most Lennon -McCartney songs were written by Lennon or McCartney but they were contractually given dual credit.
The Lennon/McCartney songs were almost always, to one degree or another, a collaboration, something Lennon admitted in one of his final interviews. This is especially obvious if you listen to John's and Paul's solo albums. When the Beatles broke up, they each lost their best editor and the person who could elevate a very good idea to greatness.

The best way to develop and enhance yourself is to work alongside stronger and more advanced people. It will keep you striving to improve. Although it must have been hard it made him into a great songwriter and his songs definitely enriched the Beatles albums. I personally love most of George’s songs especially on revolver (probably my favourite album). I don’t think many people could have competed with Lennon and McCartney in those days so he deserves credit for his strength and commitment in achieving his excellent songs alongside these two powerhouses. It is true I ended up enjoying Sgt Peppers, White Cover, and Abbey Road a lot, but the magic of Revolver never really dimmed.

Something is my favourite Beatles song full stop and may be 5 of Georges songs would fill my top 10 favourite Beatles songs of all time.
It wasn't dismissed at all they broke up and it wasn't the only song practised in the Let it Be sessions that didn't make that album. They all had them on solo albums . George was young and couldn't write good songs at first and had to learn it had nothing to do with being dismissed. Like he said himself. Hate these videos always making out that George was somehow dismissed when he was just the little brother . They had a love for each other none of us will know. They shared the whole experience and nobody knew how they felt but them four lads from Liverpool. The Beatles the greatest band ever. Love them all with equal measure.
Wow. Now I get why George was my favourite Beatle. I had no idea those two songs on Help! we're George's, but they were my favourites before I knew.
I think While My Guitar Gently Weeps was probably his best but he had many great songs. If you make a Beatles album with just his songs, you would still have one of the top Beatles albums ever.

Love all of Harrison's solo stuff later on. It influenced my life so much, that I actually 'became' George Harrison. Tried to sing and compose like him. Tried to look like him. I became staunchly pious and remain so today. Found out that you can't write songs without feeling and expression. Harrison opened up a kind of other world while still remaining human.
I think his friendship with Eric Clapton, the husband in law gave him lots of confidence.

Finally, someone articulates my opinion on the Beatles and George. I couldn’t have said it anywhere near as well. Best musician in the group, and IMO best songwriter, although not as prolific. Quality, not quantity.

George was great, maybe my favorite Beatle for a few years in the 70's, in fact he was. Paul was a superior musician and writer in the band for a long time, kept the band together in fact. This George is under appreciated thing gets kind of old though. George, and all the Beatles, should feel VERY fortunate and blessed to have been in that band, period. I guess it makes for good book sales.
