Of course the sound quality would be so much better if this had been recorded in a studio as opposed to someone in the audience. Also, it would have been nice if the audience would have allowed Mr. Boe to finish singing before they started clapping. Even with all the imperfections, one would be hard pressed to find anyone who has sung this song better than Alfie in this particular performance, including Mr. Boe himself. This is his best.
Listen to how quiet the audience is. You would never know 19,000 people were there; every person in that audience is mesmerized by this remarkable petition and prayer to God. The real title of the song is, "The Prayer." It is truly a prayer and sung like it, especially that last sweet note. Ahhhh, Alfie Boe, you are such a blessing. That voice and the beauty of your performance touches the soul. Thank you.
Insuperable!!! 🥲🙌💗
+Donna Davis I agree. I've heard some truly wonderful renditions of "Bring Him Home" (Josh Groban's, opera tenor Jerry Hadley's), but this is the *very* finest I have ever heard, and the most moving.
@@detectivefiction3701 absolutely! I completely love Alfie Boe. I've always loved the song, but hearing him sing it is just magic. I feel that he is transported just as much as I am ❤
what isnt really shown in this, the whole crowd gives him a standing ovation. hes htere for like a minute, breaking character to thank the crowd. would recommend watching it on bluray etc
I just watched this on PBS. As he finished with that indescribable note, I couldn't see the audience at first. I was thinking, "They HAVE to be standing. They HAVE to be..." Then the camera showed the audience just adoring him and his beautiful awed and humbled reaction. I don't ever need to hear anyone else sing this song.
I honestly don't understand why this doesn't have 10 million views. THANK YOU for being smart and taking this video. The acoustics here are absolutely incomparable.
totally agree - he was overcome with the emotion of it afterwards, and the Finale it of it had a heavenly quality, as if the angels had joined in with them - something amazing happened.
I love Colm's wild and tender tenor, but Alfie's operatic rendition allows more space for the beauty of the songwriting to shine through with less idiosyncrasy, like a church hymn. You can't get more expressive than Colm any more than you can get more technical than Alfie - without ruining the song. Both provide two ends of the spectrum. Every other rendition of this song more or less falls in between these two - with many falling off the scale.
That and the movie sort of ruined it for me wanting them to choose emoting over singing, so many times notes were forgotten, or soured entirely, for the sake of selling it. There's a way to show emotion and hit notes, and these do it. I don't know what the director was thinking =/
I mean come on it’s not Hughs fault he’s not as good as Colm or Alfie! He was as good as he could be! By which I mean not great, but he did his best! He tried!
I agree completely. Colm's version is like a fervent prayer, while Alphie's is like a voice from heaven. My personal preference is Colm, but it's a matter of taste and not that one is better than the other. I love any well-sung version.
Wow... when I saw Alfie in the show in London bytthe time he had finished singing this song I was sobbing and it gets me every time I hear it. The BEST VERSION yet. What a voice..what a man....just wonderful
What Alfie Boe does with this song is something else. While all other performances are... well, perfomances (and some of them great at that!), this one is a freaking PRAYER and it shows. This rendition moves me like none other could.
This is simply amazing. His range is insane. His voice is amazing. He killed it while acting and I just can't describe how amazing this is. I'm stunned. He is truly a phenomenal singer
I can't get over this guy's performance. His voice is like butter mixed with gold served on a silver platter with pixie dust sprinkled over the top. Not to mention his eyes!
This concert version is more gripping than the performance I saw in London several years ago. Boe has a magnificent voice, with no strain at all on the highest pitches. Great interpretation!
Just float away on that voice and melt in those eyes. No face pulling emoting, but pure emotion. He says that he prayed before singing and carried that spirituallity over into the song. You can see him coming out of the 'bubble' .No wonder the audience reacted as they did. 100% the finest performance of 'The prayer' ever.
The thrill for me is that he has performed this song thousands of times but whether in concert or performance he always performs it as if it’s the first. He delivers this beautiful song like a gift and I always feel like he is singing just for me.
I finally saw the movie recently. Here there's no green screen, camera angles, tracking shots, editing, or multiple takes. Just one man on an empty stage. From the very first line, you cannot take your eyes off him. Alfie's "trick" here was to bring the audience into the song with him. Have watched this so many times and it catches my heart every single time.
We live in England therefore we cannot get to America to go to these special concerts, so we try to purchase these dvd`s of the Christmas concert, we so enjoy them so much but this concert was made even more special by Alfie Boe, He is a wonderful singer but when he sang Bring him home, It was like someone singing a prayer to our Father in Heaven, If I had been at that Concert I would have sobbed with emotions, it was superb, I have since purchased the DVD and hope to share it with my family I know it will bring them as much joy as it did to me, Sandra Chivers.
Alfie Boe as Jean ValJean; Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras; Norm Lewis as Javert; Sierra Boggess as Cosette; Samantha Barks as Eponine; David Bryant as Marius and Lea Salonga as Fantine. That would be something awesome to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is singing in a head voice; a voice between a full voice and a falsetto. This voice requires a lot of air and breath control. That last note, so high, so soft, so beautiful is extraordinary.
Me too. I saw the last show! It was an honor. A spiritual experience. I thought the applause after "Bring him Home" would never end. He had to look up and break character and do a little nod.
At first I came here to just see how the new Valjean sang, now this is my third time listening to him sing this song and I am in love. Can't wait to see the success he'll have
Totally agree with you. Sometimes there is too much facial calisthenics going on. All the emotion one needs comes from the heart and it is there in his eyes for all to see. Thanks very much for uploading. Your the last bastion of BHH 25th Anniversary. Carry on!!!
Most have a bucket list. I have a simple one. On it, was Alfie portraying Jean Valjean. I checked that off last Fall. I love you Alfie! Thanks for the vid!!
Nancy Hayes. I have seen Alfie live twice but would have loved to see him in Les Mis.I have seen a lot of different show but none of them have came close to Les Mis for me it will always be my fav show.
The DVD doesn't nearly do this performance any justice. The editing made it sound like a studio recording. This video, where you can hear the acoustics, much better captures how great this performance was. I can only imagine how it was being there live.
"he's like the son I might have known if God had granted me a son"..what a magnificent lyric and thought. I have 2 grown girls 25 and 22 one getting married and I hope to be saying the same. God bless Victor Hugo and Alfie Boe
Listening to this from time to time. This is just a breathtaking performance. If Alfie Boe is a part of the 2014 Broadway cast, it's definitely a must to be at one of the concerts.
I saw him for the last show. it was magical. After he sang this, there was probably at least 3 min of applause, it wouldn't stop , some standing ovation. He broke character for a moment and looked up and gently nodded. Everyone went crazy!
Morgan Mitchell From a technical standpoint, yes. However, Colm IS Valjean and conveys the emotion like no other. Alfie can sing for sure but he’s very wooden.
Morgan Mitchell I personally prefer Colm's version, but you are right, art is subjective, so who am I to tell everyone who sings better. However, when it comes to standard, Colm has to take the credit, for he is The first Jean Valjean ever, and the only Jean Valjean for a lot of people. He literally sets every single standard of this character, keep in mind that the script is a lot different from the book, so one might even say Colm developed a lot of the aspect of the character, and all else's performances are based on his. But I 100% agree that Alfie is absolutely phenomenal and hits me every single time
Best part of the evening. We were giving him a standing ovation at the Movie Theatre! He deserved all of the clapping and cheering he got. My new favorite Jean Valjean (Just squeaking past Colm Wilkinson...)
There are no amounts of ways that I can thank you for getting this close footage. He gives, by far, the best performance of "bring him home", and for that matter jean val jean, that anyone has ever done. Thank you for loving this musical as much as I do
Thank you for posting this. I saw Alfie Boe talk about this 25th Anniversary performance being a defining moment in his career. He was so enveloped in his performance (in a bubble he said) that it took a minute before he was aware that the audience was standing and applauding. He realized at that moment his career was going to change dramatically. I have his album and watched other videos of him singing "Bring Him Home," but nothing compares to this performance. An angel must have been sitting on his shoulder that night.
I always thought, I have seen the best performance of this song by Colm Wilkinson. But this is so incredibly emotional and remarkable. I don´t know what to post anymore. I think both are genius in their way
I cannot seem to stop listening to Alfie sing this song. He is actually getting me through this pandemic of 2020. Bucket List see Alfie in person. Just no words to discribe this heavenly voice with no strain. His eyes steady on every lyric and his heart straight into God's bosom. So relaxing for me. Bless you Mr. Alfie Boe.
lol Longer than that. People who were there said it was at least 4-5 minutes. It was edited for the LM25 dvd. Alfie's reaction to it all was priceless.
A clip of Jefff Leyton the Irish Jean Valjean from the 10th Anniversary singing Bring him home, The Les Miserables open air concert in Highlands park Chelmsford, Thirty two thousand people. It was never released to the public untill now.
In my humble opinion, the best Jean Valjean to ever play the part. Alfie is an absolute force.
He and the older man Colm? Are the 2 best Jean Valjeans!
Colm is of course also phenomenal. But I just love Alfie’s final note hang ....... God.
I prefer Colm honestly
100% and I seen Les Mis 15 times
Listen to how quiet the audience is. You would never know 19,000 people were there; every person in that audience is mesmerized by this remarkable petition and prayer to God. I cannot listen to Alfie sing this song without tearing up. The quiet beauty of his voice is outstanding.
+Donna Davis I agree. I've heard some truly wonderful renditions of "Bring Him Home" (Josh Groban's, opera tenor Jerry Hadley's), but this is the *very* finest I have ever heard, and the most moving.
I humbly agreed

They edited the standing ovation down for the dvd. People who were there say it lasted almost five minutes.
What a trilling moment that must have been for Alfie, and anyone there!
hecate235 I have the DVD and even I thought that ovation had to be longer!
This man does the best version of this song I’ve ever heard!
I honestly don't understand why this doesn't have 10 million views. THANK YOU for being smart and taking this video. The acoustics here are absolutely incomparable.
My pleasure!
This is the performance of a lifetime, he was so in character that even his subsequent performances do not come close. Absolutely lovely.
totally agree - he was overcome with the emotion of it afterwards, and the Finale it of it had a heavenly quality, as if the angels had joined in with them - something amazing happened.
Absolutely ADORE him in this role.
This particular song just kills me.. his voice/emotion are simply PERFECT
+Brian Estanislao In fairness to Hugh Jackman, the song was too high for him. I can't understand why they didn't transpose it down.
Brian Estanislao up
That and the movie sort of ruined it for me wanting them to choose emoting over singing, so many times notes were forgotten, or soured entirely, for the sake of selling it. There's a way to show emotion and hit notes, and these do it. I don't know what the director was thinking =/

Just saw Alfie Boe as Jean ValJean. Met him by the stage door later and got an autograph. My life is complete. :)
Alfie is a wonderfully human man. I got his autograph too and he was embarrassed that I wanted it.❤️
Just perfection..Had this played at my Grandad's funeral, he was both a big Les Mis fan and Alfie Boe fan so seemed fitting.
Wow... when I saw Alfie in the show in London bytthe time he had finished singing this song I was sobbing and it gets me every time I hear it. The BEST VERSION yet. What a voice..what a man....just wonderful
SAME. i saw him in london and was in tears
This is my favorite version of this song. His voice is just perfect.
Alfie to Colim: You were great, but I've got this now.
I am not a very pious man, but only one word will suffice Divine.
well said - the Finale was joined by the angels - I feel
What Alfie Boe does with this song is something else. While all other performances are... well, perfomances (and some of them great at that!), this one is a freaking PRAYER and it shows. This rendition moves me like none other could.

this and phantom of the opera are the two greatest musicals of all time. nothing will ever trump them.
I agree 100%. Love, pain, peace, happiness, strife, grief. Both are so moving.
I can't get over this guy's performance. His voice is like butter mixed with gold served on a silver platter with pixie dust sprinkled over the top. Not to mention his eyes!
He's dreamy. I could listen to this over and over and over.
his vocal control and perfect vibrato is what makes him the better of all other performers of this song.
This was played as one of my oldest friends was brought into the church at the beginning of his funeral on Friday, broke my heart.God bless you Gibby x
He deserved every iota of that standing ovation. Remarkable.
He's incredible. Brings new to tears every time.
Alfie opened his mouth and penned my shoulders against the wall. Yes I wept.
Every time I watch it...
He touches my heart and there are tears...Every.Single.Time. Alfie is beyond amazing!!
Alfie sings like an angel… perfection
I saw him live in London, it was amazing! I flew from the USA!
I saw him after this concert, I flew from Taiwan just for this concert!
This concert version is more gripping than the performance I saw in London several years ago. Boe has a magnificent voice, with no strain at all on the highest pitches. Great interpretation!
I can just listen to this all day! Alfie's voice is God sent
Just float away on that voice and melt in those eyes. No face pulling emoting, but pure emotion. He says that he prayed before singing and carried that spirituallity over into the song. Amazing to have a classically trained tenor in this role. Small wonder he's the best ever.
Yes, but what Alfie does here can't be taught.
The definitive performance of this piece for me.
I finally saw the movie recently. Here there's no green screen, camera angles, tracking shots, editing, or multiple takes. Just one man on an empty stage. From the very first line, you cannot take your eyes off him. Alfie's "trick" here was to bring the audience into the song with him. Best ever performance of bring him home.
I was there, it blew me away how good he was.....
Thank you so much for this. Alfie Boe totally blew me away and thoroughly deserved the standing ovation he got for this performance.

this was in England.
Sandra Chivers it was filmed at the O2 Arena in London
Alfie Boe as Jean ValJean; Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras; Norm Lewis as Javert; Sierra Boggess as Cosette; Samantha Barks as Eponine; David Bryant as Marius and Lea Salonga as Fantine. That would be something awesome to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I say Karimloo as Javert!
Sierra is too old for the part now. Probably older than Sam Barks
Lyndsey Hood Yes! That's exactly my dream cast! 😍😍😍
You should see the 10th Anniversary dream cast of Les Miserables
Best version of this song by anyone who has sung it.
Alfie's not singing in falsetto. That is his tenor voice reaching those notes.
He is singing in a head voice; a voice between a full voice and a falsetto. This voice requires a lot of air and breath control. That last note, so high, so soft, so beautiful is extraordinary.
Awesome and amazing show and I like this and I love this
My Lord, I'm stunned by Alfie's voice. OMG!
Watched them all sing this and for me alfie does it the best
Alfie a dramatic tenor does this beautifully. Nobody thought it could be done but Alfie really gives this a much deeper experience with his tone.
Good Lord this is a work of art.
had the honor of seeing alfie perform this awesome number last weekend ON BROADWAY. tears still running down my face
Me too. I saw the last show! It was an honor. A spiritual experience. I thought the applause after "Bring him Home" would never end. He had to look up and break character and do a little nod.
getting goosebumps!
alfie boe has the best voice I've ever heard...he's my #1 fav always♡♡♡♡
Just perfection
God he made me cry! He was that good.
At first I came here to just see how the new Valjean sang, now this is my third time listening to him sing this song and I am in love. Can't wait to see the success he'll have
I was spellbound during this performance, the shivers running down my spine....

My favorite rendition of this song by my favorite singer of the song
이분 성함이 어찌 되시지..더 듣고싶다
Simply stunning performance.
The best of all who ever sang this song
Such a touching performance! How I love him!
The DVD doesn't nearly do this performance any justice. The editing made it sound like a studio recording. This video, where you can hear the acoustics, much better captures how great this performance was. I can only imagine how it was being there live.

More than anyone (even Colm), his voice matches really well with Valjean!
Just announced that Alfie will be returning to B'way as Valjean on Sept 1. The Best!
Ron Laurence Gross yeah I heard about that and i am so excited.
Alfie's the best!
I saw him for the last show. it was magical. After he sang this, there was probably at least 3 min of applause, it wouldn't stop , some standing ovation. He broke character for a moment and looked up and gently nodded. Everyone went crazy!
Fot me, after Alfie, there is no other Valjean possible
Alfie boe is the best Valjean, the voice is come form God.
the standard by which all others must be judged
WillBrink The standard is still Colm.
Are you serious? Alfie Boe blows Colm Wilkinson out of the water - in every way.
Morgan Mitchell From a technical standpoint, yes. However, Colm IS Valjean and conveys the emotion like no other. Alfie can sing for sure but he’s very wooden.
Welp, art is subjective so I can't *insist* you're wrong but, you know ;)

27 people had their laptops flipped upside down before liking.
Truly beautiful.
Best part of the evening. We were giving him a standing ovation at the Movie Theatre! He deserved all of the clapping and cheering he got. My new favorite Jean Valjean (Just squeaking past Colm Wilkinson...)
I bought the 25th on DVD for £ 5!! Without a shadow of a doubt, the best £5 I've ever spent!!
There are no amounts of ways that I can thank you for getting this close footage. He gives, by far, the best performance of "bring him home", and for that matter jean val jean, that anyone has ever done. Thank you for loving this musical as much as I do

This performance made Alfie a star and rightly so.❤️
Oh, how wonderful, the best performance of "Bring Him Home" is back!!! Thank you, thank you brave person! :)
a literal god
the standing ovation and alfies response is just fab.
Beautiful
I fell in love with Alfie Boe as soon as he started singing.....he was amazing!
Alfie Boe.
This makes me weep. And he's ACTUALLY SINGING!
I think that's what really makes it so much more special than anyone else's performance.
Love this song so much it's amazing Alfie sings it perfectly!!!
What a voice, love it xxxx
To my dad love him so much
He’s failing fast
The best!!!!!ever
Crying....Crying.... and..... crying. fin.
Am missing my sons.
lol Longer than that. People who were there said it was at least 4-5 minutes. It was edited for the LM25 dvd. Alfie's reaction to it all was priceless.
A beautiful prayer that God answered.
cannot ever be bettered...rip dad.
I was so impressed I bought it on DVD, and saw the movie twice...I wish it was still uploaded so I could share it with more people :(
this guy has a amazing voice
Dear Universal,
You just killed my joy.
Sincerely,
Those of us who don't have time to watch the DVD
Lucky you got to go and see it in person.
Woah! What can I say.. Alfie Boe... WOW!!!!!
A clip of Jefff Leyton the Irish Jean Valjean from the 10th Anniversary singing Bring him home, The Les Miserables open air concert in Highlands park Chelmsford, Thirty two thousand people.
It was never released to the public untill now.
