Hey Gary, I really enjoy watching your videos. They have helped me a lot as I’m new to leather crafting. I’m needing some advice. So I’m wanting to get either a Gloforge Pro or a 20 ton clicker press, I’m even looking at Weavers 8 ton manual press. I will mostly be making totes, cross-bodies, men’s and women’s wallets and men’s belts. If my goal is say 20 totes a week, which would be best to have? Thank you, for your time.
Hello, thank you😀 Glowforge is limited to the size of leather pieces that can fit. So I don’t think you’ll be able to cut leather pieces for like totes. It’s not recommended for chrome tan leather either. Works best with veg tan leather. I think the glowforge is great for smaller project and prototypes. Works great for like hat patches but it’s extremely slow if you’re engraving a whole batch of patches. Clicker press are extremely fast but of course you have to have dies made for each part or pieces of your project and the cost can add up. Plus if you want to make changes to your product, you would have to make up another die. I would say it depends on how much products you want to produce. I use my glowforge mostly for prototypes, acrylic patterns, patches, and small wallets. How this makes any sense. I hope this helps. Oh and I have a small clicker press myself and still use it a lot. I bought it from the buckleguys but I do think the one from weaver is a better clicker then the one I have.
Gary & Emma Ray thank for your quick response. That does help a lot, as I’ve been going back and forth. So hearing it from someone that uses both for very similar products, holds water!! Thank you again sir, Jason
