I've been going to Gigi's for Easily 10 years, the slices were a dollar back in highschool. It was never meant to be the best pizza, but was good cheap pizza that you could walk in get in get out. Kinda similar to those quick NYC pizza slice joints.
One bite, everybody knows the pizza was a 5.8, but the slogan is an 8.2 so 7 is the average (not rookie) score
yea it didnt look too bad, but had major flop and wasnt well done. looked like a recipe for disaster if not for the zany pizzamakers

See, I don't mind him giving inflated scores when he just admits it before he does it. We all know this was a low 6 but when he just outright admits he's about to inflate the score for another reason, I can live with that.

I used to live around the corner from Gigi's and my roommates and I would pick up a slice on almost a daily basis. Then one day it was suddenly closed down as a result of a police raid. It turns out they'd been selling drugs out of the store for quite a while. The story actually made SNL's weekend update. My roommates and I lamented all those fruitless nights we were looking for "party favors" - when all along, it was just a slice away...
You gotta love old school pizza places like that. They’ve got character. Great to see a strong score.
The "old school charm" here used to be the drugs you could get with your pizza. It was busted by the cops in 2011 and had $1 million worth of marijuana, crack and oxy in the basement. lol

I moved away from there 20 years ago and it's still the same guy behind the counter making the pizzas. Always enjoyed pizza Gigi ...especially at 4am.. haha
I love how he tells some actual fan who just said I watch him all the time, " I've had em all Fairbanks to Fiji nothing compares to Pizza Gigi." Then proceeds to give it a rookie score 7.0 which is beefed up from a 6.2 because of the story. Which in reality barely even gets it to the "it's decent" table of the 1000s of reviews he has done. You can tell Dave will never a have a filter from his brain to his lips, whatever he thinks he is saying and he stands by it, mad respect.

This was the only pizza spot I knew of as a kid in the 90s. Delicious every time!!
Dave, don't blame you on the flop comment. Hope you review these, Abruzzo Pizza (9010 Yonge St,) Il Paesano Pizzeria (398 Brown's Line,) and Danforth Pizza House (920 Danforth.) This last one spawned Pizzeria Libretto, also a great pizza spot.

Me and some Army buddies skipped up to Toronto in 85 after catching the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty in Buffalo, NY. We were buying slices at the time. Never had that style of pie till I ate at GiGi’s. It was so good! Glad to see the review!

This is a joke right? Their website says they've been in business 41 years. That's just 1981. There were dozens and dozens of different pizza places in Toronto by 1971 and plenty of them are still around. In fact the first chain pizza place opened in 1961! I was born in Toronto in '60 and lived there 39 years. Spent thousands on pizza from all over the city. I have the gut to prove it. Never heard of them. No wonder they rate just a generous 7.

As a former pizza maker and someone who has ordered many Gigi Pizzas I can say the pizza is awesome except for the crust which is a bit on the cardboard side ... The Big Slice fresh from the oven was my favorite ... Vesuvio is also great pizza 🍕

My local fave in nearby Mississauga has been around 47 years so it's really hard to believe that at 50 years that's the oldest pizza joint in Toronto.
Yeah, it's not. Il Paesano out in Etobicoke has been around since 1959. Dunno if there's anything older, Vesuvio's was older but closed because of the pandemic.

Old school Italian Toronto Pizza's are a different things. I like them, but as an Italian Italian now in Toronto for over 30 years, it is the new places opened by young/new Italian arrivals that make the real pizzas. The Toronto Italian thing is the veal Sandwich, California and San Francesco in particular.

I used to live by here. He should’ve gotten Fresca Pizza one block south. I HATE corporate pizza but I opted to get a slice from Pizza Nova across the street. The one time I got a slice of GiGi, the crust was like cardboard. Kinda surprised so many people recommended it.
That pizza was better than a 7. I can tell with my eyes.

As a Torontonian this series is confirming what I thought -- we have dogshit pizza for the most part.
Bello Pizza on Bloor street west is the best I've had though. Would definitely recommend.
We have dog shit bbq too, I'll have to try it out that pizza place. Hopefully it's good. Pie guys in Niagara kills it but it's a drive out there

Had Bello on the weekend for the first time. Omg the best I’ve had in the city in a super long time.
Honestly Fresca hits the spot and fits the budget. Everything else is terrible

There was a 2 for 1 across the street, it closed down. Then opened a 3 for 1 across the street, it too closed down. Now theres a Pizza Nova across the street, and if it wasnt for their franchising, it to would have closed down. Pizza Gigi is the best pizza in that area. If they were opened during Highsccool Hours, it would be all over for Pizza Nova. Gigi's pizza is best after a night at the bar or club. The only pizza from a Pizzeria in Toronto (thats south of Steeles btw) that's better for the price, is Badialis & North of Brooklyn. Maker Pizza is alright and Papa Ceo with the original owners used to be good as well. They too had a great rivalry with Coras next door. Both were located on Spadina near UofT.

FINALLY!!! I been saying it since the ratings system began, if you attach a "point Zero" to a whole number, than it's a legit pro score.
Otherwise... if you leave out 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and just use non whole numbers your system is not out of 10 it's actually out of 9.

Nah, whole number is a legit 10-scale because “0” is possible. Adding the decimal point basically makes his scale the same as 0-100, but a 100-scale looks stupid.

I’m simply stating the mathematical fact that that a single decimal point scale of 0-10 is the same as a whole number scale of 0-100. If you can’t follow plain English, cut back on the pizza.
