ps. Remember, life's better when you make stuff!
It's safe to say the Super73 isn't everything I thought it would be when I bought it. I had a lot more thoughts I cut out of the video and just simplified this video to me building a battery. This is my thoughts after owning one; First, don't be an idiot and wash it, next It's great for pavement and riding around cities, but horrible for anything Offroad what so ever. It's not like the marketed it for this at all, but I definitely thought it could cruise logging roads a lot better than it does.
Without suspension the S1 is just brutal off road.
Like bumpy city to the nines. It's clearly just made to replicate the look of something Offroad capable, but it's not up to the task at all. (new models might be better for this, but I haven't had a chance to try one).
Hills? You better start pedalling because this guy can't really climb any hill steeper than a slight gradient. Pedaling an e-bike isn't an issue if it's geometry is like a normal bike, but this one is not. Pedalling this thing for any amount of time is very uncomfortable.
I know they released new models that have more suspension all around. I would try test ride one of those over getting one of the earlier models of Super73 like I did. Those are my thoughts! I wish I knew this before hand.
Thanks for sharing! I'm in the thoughts of getting an ebike for my van and your feedback on the super73 unfortunately isn't uncommon to hear. I've found the brand Ariel Rider and their new X-Class 52v or Grizzly to be really interesting bikes (and no, i have no affiliation with them) with better speed, torque, suspension and price than the S73.
Keep sharing!
More aiming this at current Super owners rather than Levi, but with tires that volumous you should be able to run pretty low tire pressures to absorb rocks perhaps up to 5-10cm diameter. Should be at least okay across fire-track but definitely not going to be taking it on any singletrack and stay far away from mountain bike trails!
I get the feeling though that any significant amount of firetrack riding will get enough dust everywhere to significantly reduce the lifespan of the bike. So in a pinch maybe not a bad idea to lower the tire pressure, but I'd go for a proper MTB e-bike if I were doing any amount of firetrack exploring. Mountain bikes do break down pretty small, and maybe even smaller than the Super.
@@benridesbikes6975 I definitely run them aired down as well. That's a good thing to point out. It can only make up for so much tho, and I still hit the rims on the ground and get pinch flats from my fat ass
That is why I bought the @Rad Powerbikes Rad Runner + . I looks nice and the geometry is also for pedaling easy. It's a bicycle, not a little motorcycle.
You need to check out Ladi & Margaret’s youtube channel. Ladi makes ebikes for a business
You can coat that whole circuit board in liquid silicon (looks like nail polish)
Drone guys are running them underwater with it
Life is also better when you fix stuff! Super glad to see I'm not the only one who takes lots of extra effort to fix things to keep from having to throw them away 😄
We have a Renaissance man. AvE would be proud.
A Spirited Man if you will
I’m always amazed at what ur able to build (or fix) - nice work Levi!
Thanks Skip! Appreciate you watching
You're not the idiot. You didn't design and market an e-bike with a batt case that wasn't waterproof or at the very least IP54 rated. Most are. It's not complicated. Very lazy engineering for the price.
I am eagerly awaiting a certain shipment of some new components!
Secrets from the channel for now 🤫 but I basically followed your parts list identically.
for an expensive electric bike intended for outdoor use, it’s a shame that it’s not even water resistant, especially when it rains. coastal areas and humid areas tend to have more corrosion. good job on putting it all together. lots of work and supplies and tools just to get it done.
They are water resistant not waterproof. He had to of soaked it with a hose or power washer.
Yes agree I don’t expect to be fully water proof but at least cells wrapped a few times and padded and silicone or rubber seal around casing to seal pack . As water even if not sprayed direct will usually find it way inside. At least it help if anything.
As. parent of two kids it’s fun to watch these experiences. At the same time I so respect that you aren’t trying to turn your channel into a family channel or feeling the need to share everything. I do think sharing some of what you do though makes you so much more relatable. Great parenting you two. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video Levi!! Super impressed with your trouble shooting, what you did to fix it, and how you documented it all on video. Nice one!!🙌
Somehow this was strangely relaxing. Keep up the good work
Seriously well done, hats off to you for tackling that.
Truly therapeutic watching you build this battery. Awesome video, I will be subscribing.
Great video, good to watch.
Very impressive! And a fun video to watch!
Great job, Levi!
You are a truly Spirited Man 👍
This.
Life's better when you make stuff, indeed. Loved this, man. So, you're just gonna keep it? Hell, make a bigger battery for it. Super impressed.
Great video. Thank you.
Pretty soothing to watch you fix it
Always liked the look of these, but when a Honda Monkey or Trail 125 is about the same price, well, it's a tough sell. Awesome video Levi. Love watching you learn new skills.
Thats a very nice Knipex Plier Wrench you are using there!! One of my favorite!
That’s impressive. Nice work!
i don’t have a clou about anything you did there. i‘m just not into electric stuff ⚡️ BUT, man this video was interesting to watch and beautifully made. your way of editing made me feel involved eventhough i‘m not an expert with electricity.
Thank‘s for sharing Levi!🤘🏽
No idea how you did that .... but I'm here for it!
Dude badass!! 🙌
You are hardcore man, that is nuts that you rebuilt a battery. So impressed.
DIY overhead rig FTW!
Levi, this video was seriously awesome!!! Thank you! 🙏!!!! 🍻
Impressive. The editing of the video was great too.
Well done!!
This is so awesome! Where’d you learn about electronics/fixing that stuff? I’ve dabbled a little bit when I was younger, but electronics was always super intimidating hahah
Dude! Very fun video. SO much work. I built a little tab welder recently for a small lithium battery project. I'd love to pick up a real one one of these days. So many battery building opportunities now! I want to build something cool, too... I wonder how hard it'd be to diy a onewheel.
Filmmaker, van-lifer, electrician... what CAN'T you do? 👏
great video, Now that you got the tools, should upsize the battery to make it better/longer range. if you dont have one yet get a 3d printer for a custom housing.
*Bro! Way to go!* 🤙🏼
This video was so much fun to watch! I want to build an electric motorcycle now!
Good stuff bud.
This is a really sick project
That was so unbelievably impressive. Way to go, man.
Baby steps to building a full sized electric motorcycle this summer. So many things to learn, and skills to try practice!
@@Levi_Allen epic
You have a lot more patience than me. I am never buying an electric bike! LOL
By the way, great video!
sad turned rad! So cool that you were able to DIY this! Did you do anything to try to waterproof the housing after you finished? I'm glad you made this because I've been noticing that even under cover, the humidity and ocean breeze have rusted almost all of the screws on our Z1, making me wonder how durable the lithium housing is! Its also made me more worried about our plans to mount it on the back of our van someday... first that people will steal it, second that it will get damaged from the elements. I freaking love our bike, but now I'm starting to understand your sacrifice of underbed storage space for your bike drawer! Maybe we need to get a beefier lockdown system and a dope rain cover for it. Ruins my instagram dream pics tho haha 🙃Out of all the stuff you make, I'm most grateful that you're makin me think!
3:22 wow sketchy throwing all of those in the bin
Super cool build video, really enjoyed it Levi. It seems like a shockingly bad design that the battery would be done after washing the bike. What if you were caught out in the rain?
Nice job... I watched intently waiting to post some constructive criticism, but you did great! We have about 50 18650's along with us... I've built belt packs for the camera and gimbal... Fixed drill batteries, and other random stuff from other travelers...
It was a jump into the deep and and document kind of scenario. Definitely not a tutorial haha. I’d love to hear more best practices stuff for building packs. It’s such a rad way to build a battery. For not I need to get a more capable spot welder. It was struggling big time with .2 strips.
This was super interesting and complicated video. I kind lost the point of how it started by the time I was at the end of it while I still was impressed and inspired.
Nice music choice in this one 👍 Felt cosy to watch ☕😊
And who designs a product that can't be washed???
It's an electric circuit board washed with a power washer.
Here for it.
That was awesome. I wish i had the balls to build my own battery lol
It's all ways to your advantage to absorb newfound skills.
My late father always told me to learn to adapt quickly, or you will be left behind.
Play Safe From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada.
this is awesome!!! I have some set ebikes for my kids and they utilize plain old sla batts and I have some older electric grass trimmer batteries id like to salvage !!! where did you get that slick spot welder?
Bro you became an engineer. Nooooooooce!!
The (ST3 plug) connection on your Super73 battery has 3 connections.
One for the positive and one for the negative.
Were you able to find out what that 3rd connection was for?
With your new bluetooth bms in your super73 battery housing, can it be charged with your old original Super73 charger?
Dude!! We’re looking at eBikes to take with us on our Skoolie! Any tips for newbs on finding a pair that you wish you knew when you bought yours? Thanks, Levi!
Ladi and Margaret do ebikes that look phenomenal!
What is that machine you used to "weld" the strips between the batteries?
Check out Ladi and Margaret and their ebike that they designed and build to sell and they also provide plans. They have a charger system that is quite phenomenal too!
That’s awesome your were able to repair it, not surprised with you ability. Question though, what is the black box with the two prongs coming out of it??
It’s a spot welder for making electrical connections without the need to solder. The unit I got kind of sucks tho
@@Levi_Allen - thanks. I figured something like that but I’d never seen anything like it before.
I’m just convinced you’re the coolest guy on RUclips. And I know if neistat and McKinnon. You’re a cool bruduh
will you still sell it or keep it now that it is repaired?
Dear Super73, you might want to HIRE Levi!
Levi! I also have a Super73 S1! Would you consider doing this again and selling/shipping to me in Ontario? I've been looking for a hookup with a second battery and maybe this is a more cost effective route if you're interested!
From a liability stand point that’d have to be a no haha : )
Hey. I was thinking of gettin one of these for a daily driver to work and back but after seeing this i am just wondering your thoughts think i should just try to find another ebike?
This guy soaked an electric bike with a power washer...but it's Super73's deal. Wow Merica!
Levi, another great video. Really loved the close look into rebuilding a battery. Also kinda mesmerizing.
Any idea what type of cells you ended up using? Given it's 13S5P, you are likely pulling more than 1C during at max power. Assuming it is an s2, then 2000w is max and that's somewhere around 7-8 amps per cell. Standard cells wont be long for this world, you need to make certain you get right bat chem that is designed for that draw.
I pulled the spec sheet and they were higher A output per cell and higher Ah, per cell. I can’t remember the exact amount by tho. The v-mount batteries were premium cells to start with. I think one set was Sony and the other was Panasonic
I would pay for a battery upgrade to my older existing battery! Change out the stock cells to some really nice ones with a higher capacity and discharge rate..
Great video! I have idea about bigger battery but I have lack understanding about controller and charging, any source about it?
Lots of RUclips videos that are tutorials! That’s how I learned
1:53 tf you mean out of stock? How do they sell bikes or warranty existing ones??
And next the welds at the pedal bracket or the kickstand will break. Mine did. I regret buying a Super 73, as much fun as I've had on it.
Sorry to hear that
Diy is the best way to go i just suck at it lol
does anyone know the name of the song at 0:44?
I wonder if it will run on a higher wattage cell? Say 60v-DC?
I need a high voltage bench tester so I can test out various voltages for electronics
thoughts on the spot welder?
Trash haha. I would definitely buy a different one. Could just barely do .2mm strips.
@@Levi_Allen I've gotten that impression from a lot of spot welders. Especially if they're the 110v version
I tried the same project on my Tesla....but my hands got tired after handling THOUSANDS of tiny AA's.
After purchasing 2 Ebikes, one with absolutely no suspension, and one with front suspension, and a suspension seat, I would never buy another Ebike, without front and rear suspension. The difference in comfort, is like night and day.
onewheel looks pretty dorky not gonna lie
So is it still up for sale?
From a year ago? No
It was like watching the Pablo Cimadevila of battery building.
I don’t know who that is Jesse. Don’t make me google things
@@Levi_Allen haha anyone who appreciated watching this will appreciate watching him work. Soothing goodness! RUclips him.
DVA has her ultimate at 3:05
Hahahahaha eyes of a hawk
@@Levi_Allen Great video mate, I just bought a Super 73 S2 so this was really interesting.
Super 73 or OneWheel?
One wheel all the way. Super 73 without suspension is brutal. It's fine for smooth pavement but anything else it just sucks at.
Levi... do not put together a battery made of individual cells- that is a fire hazard waiting to happen, and let me put it this way... not waiting too long. Lithium battery cells in a pack need complex battery control that cannot be done in DIY.
Shouldn't that compartment be sealed so moisture doesn't get in
a one wheel lmao, Im laughing at you
Nice
Cruising in my crocs
A super versatile footwear. Optimal for cruising
Impressive man. Sign me up for more onewheel content please.
what would you like to see about one wheels?
@@Levi_Allen Crap I didn't expect to answer that question. I just bought a pint and am addicted. I guess I would say I like the take me along for the ride vids with the long selfie stick, group rides. I am not a film maker so no need for that. Maybe combine boating and onewheel adventure.
have a look at the RadPower RadMission, its a light and very normal bicycle shaped e-bike, but its still VERY affordable and has a great throttle only and pedal assist. They have a store in Vancouver where you can get repairs done and test drive all their stuff. Great people there too 100% would recommend if this doesn't end up working out lol.
That tool at 2:14... wtf is that? link?
I cover it in my second to last upload about my everyday carry. It’s called a zyklop from wera
@@Levi_Allen Gonna' check it out, thank you!
Life's better when you fix something - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...... it's the forgotten art of sustainability
Rookie mistake Levi haha.
washing e-bikes with battery on. Big no no
@@Levi_Allen it may be a no no but there is something wrong when you have to worry about taking your bike out in the rain..
You should start with fpv if I see you doing this ?!!!!
Build FPV has never been the reason I haven't gotten into FPV. I can only choose so many hobbies at once, and vanlife doesn't lend itself well to taking on new hobbies. Flying other people's FPV's is currently more fun than building and maintaining my own haha
@@Levi_Allen do You already fly or not and I understand I dream of living in a van like you one day
@@nolandecreton3325 yes I fly
@@Levi_Allen that’s cool ! Love your content!
So, and electric bike that cost well over $1000 can't be washed...? WTF...!
Should get a 3D printer!
a $3,000. bike that can't get wet? brilliant.
He soaked a electric bike with a power washer. He's the dumb one.
Feel bad whoever’s going to buy this lol. This better be half off.
Because I built a better battery than what was in there originally? Just curious your logic here. Who said anything about selling it now anyways
I hope you got it from the company and you didn't buy it with your own money. What a POS if a one wash ruined it.
I bought it
That’s not a bicycle
DUDE!!!! what a horrible mess of nickel strips and bad spot welded!!! SMH and still made a video of it LMAO
Awee
Poor design on their part.
Built for California street paths
@@Levi_Allen Yeah, Socal doesn't know what rain is...
or snow ...
Just dont buy a super 73
For the price they get for these ugly things, that don’t even go that fast(super slow for amount of money spent) you should be able to wash it without having to worry about this!
